An American in Paris delivered a magical evening

by Eggroll56 on 11/1/16Boch Center Wang Theatre (formerly Citi Performing Arts Center) - Boston

Accolades do not even begin to come close to what this production deserves. The cast, orchestra and set design were sublime. I took my best friend for her birthday and she absolutely loved it as did I.

    Enjoyed every moment

by moosegirl471 on 10/31/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

My husband doesn't normally enjoy musicals or ballet but he loved An American in Paris. He said it was a combination of the story line plus the familiar songs plus the excellence of the choreography. I loved it too. The performances were wonderful and I really found myself engaged with the characters. One small caveat. The running time was advertised as 113 minutes but, including the intermission, it was more like 170 minutes. Don't expect an early night.

As good as the Broadway production we saw in May 2016.

    Good for Ballet lovers

by NuclearMom on 10/31/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Too much ballet and not enough singing numbers. Also too long.

    It was okay

by Squeaky0904 on 10/31/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I'm on the fence. I think the play itself was just okay. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great.

American in Paris was a Disapointment

by BackBayResident on 10/31/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

While the majority of the audience appeared to really enjoy an American in Paris, my partner and I did not. The translation of the story from screen to stage was fine and many of the sets were interesting but everything else was lacking. The acting was rather wooden. The choreography (by Christopher Wheeldon) did little to move the story forward or even to entertain. The arrangement of the Gershwin songs was choppy and uninspiring and the voices were only adequate with the exception of the male lead, Garen Scribner who is painful to hear. Many shows have successfully transitioned from screen to stage ; this one did not.

An American In Paris is one of the most beautiful shows I have ever seen. The perfect blend of recognizable music and dance. The ballet scenes, along with the gorgeous set designs are breathtaking.

An American in Paris was fantastic!

by Anonymous on 10/28/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

We were especially blown away by the effect of the artistic projections and how they worked together with the sets and costumes. This was in addition to the wonderful dancing. There were no weak links in this performance.

    Overall mediocre

by please1 on 10/28/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - Boston

The leads are fantastic... voices and performances excellent. The overall production however shows its age... missing a spark.
