Not great
by HowieTee on 10/4/16Palace Theatre New York - New YorkThe problem, besides the much less talented cast, was there was no feel of Paris. Not a good idea to simulate that as the movie was able to.

2015 Tony Award® winner CHRISTOPHER WHEELDON directs and choreographs a remarkable company of 25 international and Broadway virtuosos as they bring the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with Tony Award®-winning orchestrations of unforgettable works by GEORGE GERSHWIN AND IRA GERSHWIN, including such classics as “I’ll Build A Stairway to Paradise,” “I Got Rhythm” and “The Man I Love.”
Don’t miss this fresh and breathtakingly beautiful new musical about a young American soldier and a beautiful French girl in the four-time Tony Award®-winning production that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2014–15 season, including Best Musical of the Year from both the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama League. Show was fantastic, shame it is closing next week. Just don't see a dance driven musical like this anymore. High energy, not over the top.
Amazingly talented under study cast. Why are they under studies? Why is this show ending? It was fabulous!
An American in Paris is fabulous with amazing dance numbers and great singing. You'll really enjoy this show. Bravo Gershwin -- still sparkling after all these years!
great show, in a fantastic venue, right on times square. drinks a bit expensive though....
Excellent from start to finish. Funny, sweet, and very entertaining. Each cast member was superb. Highly recommend this show.
This was my first time seeing a Broadway show and I must say the performances were spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of the Parisian lady falling in love with the former American soldier turned artist. The main female character was outstanding and I felt like she blew the audience away with her style and grace. The cast showed tremendous talent with a flawless performance in singing, dancing and acting. I would definitely recommend this show, especially if you're looking for something similar to a romantic comedy. Prepare to be swooned by the lead characters and left with a feeling of love and happiness.
The ballet choreography is excellent! The visual effects were stunning.
A little dated but spectacular choreography and singing. Also the sets were innovative. Of course, the score by the Gerswhins is timeless
An American in Paris was an absolutely terrific experience. From the first moment of the first scene to the very end, each and every song, dance number, and spoken segment was a delight. I was riveted. I highly recommend this production. Better act fast though, the show ends soon. The costumes were beautiful. The dance numbers were varied and choreographed well. The set was creative. Music - top notch. I loved, loved, loved this show.
The dancers and singers were excellent. The plot while light was enjoyable. .
Sat completely mesmerized , entranced and in Heaven. The music of Gershwin, the Dance and staging, the dancers, the singers, the actors, the characters and more detailed backstory for the book. . Superb balm for the soul.. Who would ask for anything more.!!
This play was a disappointment. I thought the two leads were weak on dancing, and obviously the "American" could not do much with singing. The second act was a bit stronger. but even there the choreography seemed jerky and performed without much zip and sync. (Maybe it was an off night for them.) The female lead who was so acclaimed? She just could not win me over. Both my husband and myself were, at times. simply bored. (And I loved the movie!) I wished I had chosen The Front Page--the choices for that evening. We had seen The Humans (superb) and Something Rotten (bawdy let-your-hair-down fun).
The dancing and music are unforgettable in this classic love story. Tons of cohesiveness within the cast. Very well done. Would see again.
The combination of Gershwin, Wheeldon and incredible talent make this an incredible evening! Run and see while you still can!
Fantastic! Except...just like the movie, the ballet at the end drags on for way too long. Other than that it is a perfect, old fashioned musical.
I'm so glad we got to see American in Paris in NYC before it left. WOW, incredible from start to end. Really great dancing, fun dialogue, really cool set, super fun overall.
All aspects of this show were superb... Gershwin music, fabulous sets, and the dancing was spectacular. Classically trained ballet dancers that can really sing. The major dance dream sequence in the last act was unbelievable. A feast for the eyes and ears.
If you want to see a remarkable play with wonderful dancing, go see this play. Leanne Cope's dancing is exquisite. I would love to see her again in another play! The entire cast is great, it was a delightful evening in NYC. The sets are really fun, and things happen during the play that make you wonder "how did that happen"? Go see it for yourself!
The music and dancing is amazing. Storyline is slightly different than the movie.
