    ABT is outstanding

by Angella on 7/21/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I took a friend (male, 55) who had never been to the ballet and who was poo pooing the idea that it might be worthwhile, and he was mesmerized by ABT's performance of Romeo and Juliet. He's now raving about the ballet to his other friends. Needless to say, it was a wonderful performance.

    ABT was amazing!

by balletbunny on 7/21/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I've seen ABT perform every summer for the last 4 years. Romeo and Julet is one of my favorite ballets and this was amazing. The girl who played Juliet, Hee Seo, was beautiful. I can't believe she is only in the corps.

    Romeo and Juliet was spectacular!

by Oceanray1620 on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

For any one who has not been to the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion, I highly suggest that you do because the building itself is phenomenal and there is no such thing as a bad seat. I took my best friend to see Romeo and Juliet there on Jul. 19th. I have read the play several times and seen several different productions as well, but I have never seen this classic story through dance before. The ABT production was absolutely amazing. The ballerina who played Juliet was stunning, and played her character better than any actress I have ever seen. I can't wait to see another ABT production, especially at the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion.

    Romeo and Julietr

by Intrepid on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

shame on the ABT - second rate, with 2 exceptions, performers. a true disaster for th first time youngsters in the theatre who had been excited by real dancing on television. A lost opportunity for the ABT.

    Good

by Ashford on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

We had a good time at the ballet. I did feel that the men of the company struggled. They were not in sequence or time together while dancing. One was either behind the music or in front of it. Lots of sloppy foot work & not very impressed with their technique. I mean this is ABT they should be perfect. I was left feeling a bit disappointed by the general power of the company. The one person who just blew my mind was Hee Sao, Juliet. She was captivating to watch. We couldn't take our eyes off her. Her movements were so beautiful & just effortless and an incredible actress. Exquisite technique. I do have high standards for the ballet. With these prices I believe we all should have. Not sure if I'll go to see them again.:( Probably wait for the NYCB next time.

    Romeo & Juliet

by hollywoodchik on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Shame on me for being a rookie arts participator at 44, but at least my first ballet was a classic that we all know and love. It was beautiful, romantic, tragic and amazing. Im looking forward to my next ballet event.

    Reyes & Cornejo -- astonishing.

by Grollier on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Just an astonishing pairing of two beautiful dancers in their prime. Xiomara Reyes had everything you'd want to see in Juliet -- grace, lightness, and a pitch-perfect appreciation for the coming of age story that it is. She radiated youth, and then desire, and then despair. And Cornejo was powerful and romantic as Romeo -- strong, elegant, precise and a perfect match for Reyes. Their balcony scene was one of the great moments I've ever seen on stage. Just perfect.

    WHERE FOR ART THOU ROMEO?

by DUKE1 on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I was expecting to see Robert Bolle and while not disappointed in the substitute, I was not "bolled" over. It lacked the big explosion of passion that this ballet usually ignites. All in all, R&J is a timeless classic that the ABT can't mess up. R. Ellman

    ABT

by oldschooldancer on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

The principal dancers were wonderful! I loved every moment they were on stage. The stage and costumes were also magnificent, as well as the choreography and music. I missed not seeing the all the ladies in toe shoes. As much as their feet were probably much happier, it did change the way they moved and I came to see a ballet. I was glad to see the principal dancers still produce the pure form of the art.

    ABT's Romeo & Juliet Fantastic

by SCOperaplnnr on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Herman Cornejo and Xiomara Reyes had amazing chemistry that really the made the performance a standout. On top of the spectacular dancing, sets, costumes and action, the orchestra and music was wonderful.

    American Ballet Theatre is phenomenal!

by Loveballet on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I had seen Romeo and Juliet 2 other times, once with San Francisco Ballet and once with American Ballet Theatre. This performance is the only one that brought me to tears. Xiomara Reyes and Herman Cornejo were fabulous, very believable as teenagers. As one would expect from a world class company the sets and costumes were very well done, except the pink headpieces the guys wear at one point look like curlers and are a bit distracting. The sword fights are very nicely choreographed and fun to watch. Isaac Stappas is a commanding presence as Tybalt and beautiful to watch. Mercutio (Carlos Lopez) is also beautifully danced. Jared Matthews as Benvolio seemed a bit off in Act I but stonger in Act ll. The Harlots (Misty Copeland, Anne Milewski and Melanie Hamrick) were very energetic and fun to watch. The Nurse (Kelley Boyd) was nicely portrayed. It is a beautiful production and I would recommend anyone who likes or loves ballet to treat themselves to an American Ballet Theatre performance of any ballet. They are amazing.

ABT stages a gorgeous Romeo & Juliet

by Stepf on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Gorgeous costumes and sets and some of the greatest dancers in the world. This production was glorious! Gillian Murphy was injured, but Paloma Herrera was fantastic in her place. Don't miss this!

    UNFORGETTABLE!

by Kelson on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

This is the first time in my life where I attended a performance and didn't hear one cough! You could feel the entire audience was in a trance. You didn't dare make any noise. This performance was unbelievable from every level, the dancers, the costumes, the sets, the music, AND the audience. The people who attended this performace of ABT's Romeo and Juliet were ALL there because they wanted to be not just because they had season tickets. WOW!! It will take me a few weeks to get over this, I kid you not.

    absolutely amazing

by zoe5683 on 7/20/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Dancers were amazing actors/actresses when they express their emotions through the show, and costume were gorgeous, production & presentation of each scene was very cute & properly mixed elements of romance/ drama/ comedy & tragedy. I just enjoyed the whole show, even if i already knew the story line. it wasn't boring at all. One thing that it missed is.... at the very end i wished all the dancers come out on stage and bow so that audience can give standing obation to every single dancers, but they didn't. Only the main character- juliet/ romeo/ their parents/ and their few friends - came out and bowed couple of time, so we didn't get to see other characters at the end. Also, the orchestra just left before they bowed, so it was a finale without music which made us a little disappointed. But during the show, everything was fantastic! Especially, i love Juliet's lovely gestures and cute acting. She was so adorable. I will recommend this to everyone~
