    Amazing!!!

by balletgirl77 on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Romeo and Juliet is one of my most favorite ballets, and to see it performed by ABT made it just that much more beautiful. The coreography was impecable and was danced perfectly, and the orchestra and the dancers all brilliantly conveyed the emotions of each scene. The entire performance was incredible!

    Visual treat

by CRinLA on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

Wonderfully staged, great sets and costumes and of course a world class orchestra. All this AND amazing dancers. The ABT is highly talented throughout. A great corps, gifted soloists. The principals of this performance, Roberto Bolle and Irina Dvorovenko are stunning! Irina's skill as a dancer are unquestionable and exemplary. Her ability to portray death (when she first takes the poison) and trust her partner fully is almost disturbing because you think she really is dead! This only heightens the drama and saddness of this timeless love story. I understand Roberto just joined the ABT this year as a principal. Are we in for some amazing ballet from this stunning dancer who is a visual banquet in so many ways. I'll be looking for more ABT, most definitely.

Absolutely Amazing, passionate and thrilling !

by luvtoplay on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I have seen a few ballets and I am not a critic or a professional. They are always beautiful but this performance of "Romeo and Juliet" was spectacular! Don't be afraid to take your kids. My teenager loved it ! This was so much more than I expected. The Talent of Romeo and Juliet was beyond heart stopping and the supporting dancers very talented as well. As a side note the costumes, and backdrops and stage scenery was beautiful and very well done! This is a ballet thats not to be missed!

ROBERTO BOLLE is the All Timer!

by WISELATINADANCER on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

I saw Roberto Bolle a few months ago in London performing Swan Lake and again last night in R&J. He is the consummate ballet dancer and ridiculously handsome. He cranks out six pirouettes like silk. He has fluidity, elegance, sweetness and physical beauty. He and Irina D. were lovely as R&J. They were romantic and exhibited graceful emotion. The sets were appropriate and loved the color tone of the costumes and the orchestra . The corps, however, needs coaching. After seeing the Royal Ballet in London, it set a new standard of excellence in terms of corps. ABT does not measure. They need coaching on the uniformity of their lines, placement, and staying together. While the men were adequate (they need to seat their plies), they just do not have the audience appeal of R.B. He is stunning in the true sense of the word. Wow!

MacMillan's ROMEO & JULIET remains Gold Standard

by gradyharp on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

ABT bowed in to Los Angeles Thursday evening to an enthusiastic full house of balletomanes with a polished production of Sir Kenneth MacMillan's choreography of the Prokofiev ballet ROMEO AND JULIET. By now this production by the ABT has a burnished patina of legendary status and the entire cast was exceptional. Roberto Bolle, in his Los Angeles debut, gave credence to all the fame he has achieved as a danseur noble in his sensitive and sensuous Romeo. He was perfectly partnered with the elegant young Irina Dvorovenko as Juliet. Each of the casts will be different for this run of the ballet, but the production is so strong that it promises to be a series of successes in the varying changes of the lead roles. This is one of those events that everyone should see - the appeal is not only the beauty of the dancing but also one of the finest renderings of the Romeo and Juliet story ever created.

    ABT is Wonderful!

by Electiongrrrl on 7/17/09Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles

From the off, let me just say that I do NOT like Romeo & Juliet, the story, the play, the ballet...but any excuse to see the ABT in action is good enough for me. They did not disappoint. The dancing was superb, as always; IRINA DVOROVENKO was a wonderful Juliet, innocent and playful. There were moments when she practically floated across the floor. ROBERTO BOLLE has a reputation that he lives up to. He dances really powerfully and the lifts are perfectly beautiful. As I mentioned, I am not a fan of this particular ballet, I find the music less than moving, the staging clunky, obnoxious costuming, and the characters exasperating, so if I could get over it and love the ABT production, anyone is remotely a fan of dance will enjoy it! I much prefer Swan Lake, Manon or Sylvia, but any ABT is better than no ABT.
