    ABT's got game

by balletrocks on 10/6/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The American choreographer program is more of a retrospective than "best of" American choreography program. The two Twarp pieces are terrific. Bach Partita is far and away the best balletic piece she ever did. It's totally jacked, it alone is worth the price of the ticket. However the two older pieces by Robbins and Tippet are just that "old". If the intent of the program is to demonstrate the breadth and evolution of American choreography from the 1940's to the 1980's then the program does accomplish that. If on the otherhand the intent is to pick the most dynamic choreographers of the past 50 years and put together a knock your socks off program, there are a number of other pieces that could have been included in the program that would have left us breathless. I vote for breathless.

    Beautiful!

by ladybau on 5/13/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

I went to this event with my 6 year old niece, brother and his wife. They organized matinee tickets for my nieces school. It was such fun to see these little ones (so many were there) all dressed up to enjoy a Ballet. Music, stage, all was beautifully done. I travel 90% of the time so am glad that I took the time to enjoy this event on one of my days home.

    Giselle outstanding !!!

    by dreamer54 on 4/26/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

We are so fortunate to have had the American Ballet Theatre's production of Giselle. It was a treat. Chrysler Hall needs to do something about their parking and exiting after an event...horrible.

    It was okay...

    by krol08 on 4/25/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

It was my first time ever going to a ballet and I was not impressed. I did enjoy it though. It seemed really short... Make sure you get there ON TIME. We were like 5 minutes late (it was raining...) and they had already closed the door so we had to sit on the balcony for the whole first act. Once you get to the actual seats you bought, it can get a little overwhelming (it is ridiculously close) and sometimes it was hard to see towards the back of the stage... a row or two further would not hurt.

ABT lived up to my expectations

by teencybean on 4/24/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

I'm so happy I was able to see ABT's performance of Giselle! It isn't often that I'm able to get to a performance by a premier company, and was so pleased to find them on the list for the Arts Festival. I'm a fan of the romantic ballets, and Giselle had it all--love, jealousy, vengeance, great staging and tricky footwork.

The ballet was beautifully performed in every way.

Their performance was second only to a production of Giselle that I saw in Russia by the Kirov.

    great show, poor seating

    by Pachita99 on 4/23/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Of course I didn't pay much BUT we sat in padded foldaway chairs! We loved the show but in the middle of the show we moved to empty theater seats.

    AMAZING

by StylebyDane on 4/23/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

ABT's Giselle is without a doubt , the crowning jewel of the VA Arts Festival. To say that this performance was incredible would be a vast understatement( You can can clearly see that they are true masters of the Cecchetti and Vaganova methods, which are the hallmarks of this wonderful ballet). I had the pleasure of seeing the Saturday night performance. Hee Seo is best Giselle since Alessandra Ferri, and David Halberg was truly breathtaking as Albrecht. It was worth me coming down from NYC for the weekend and I highly recommend ALL to see it. You won't be disappointed!

    ABT Comes to Norfolk

by DavidGarland on 4/23/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

It was splendid beyond words. What New York takes for granted came to Norfolk and it was wonderful. Here's to the Virginia Arts Festival.

    Beautiful

This was my first ballet in ~20 years. I enjoyed it very much. The scenes were beautiful. And the dancers and costumes were stunning.

    Giselle production was breathtaking!!

by Balletbaby on 4/23/12Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The dancing, the scenery and the costumes were wonderful, and the orchestra and the music were glorious. The lovely, delicate ballerina who danced Giselle was ethereal and her face and body wonderfully expressive. Her handsome Count was her equal in every way. However, the dancer who performed as the Queen of the Willis almost stole the show with her fierce, smoldering performance as did the couple who danced during the festival of the grapes. The corps de ballet had the grace and stamina of the premier artists and athletes that they are and I sat there wondering which of them would be the next principal dancer at the ABT.
