    ABT Dancers were wonderful!

by BusyBeeKaren on 10/8/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The dancers were amazing as expected from American Ballet Theatre. However, the music was not good. The first part was to a Bach violin solo - very boring. The Sinatra suite music was good, of course. The music for On the Town was not what I expected and I did not like it. I know Leonard Bernstein wrote it, but I did not enjoy it. For me, the music must be good and coupled with wonderful ballet makes a marvelous experience. Maybe the ABT could consider this for their future programs.

    Misty Copeland

    by Kittykat62 on 10/8/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The reason I attended my first American Ballet Theatre production was largely in part to Misty Copeland. I was very much intrigue by her story and the beauty of her as a person and of her dance. Needless to say I was not let down. She was extraordinary!! The entire cast was absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed every moment. The seat that we had were exceptional and the view was amazing. The theatre itself is remarkably beautiful and having the elevator for my companion was a plus. The young man running the elevator was a gem. The entire experience was above reproach.

    All America Celebration

by realn on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Bach Partita accompaniment by Charles Yang was exquisite. The dance itself, while very beautiful was too long. Some Assembly Required was whimsical and delightful. The dancers were quite beautiful. And, again, the accompaniment by Charles Yang and David LaMarche was brilliant. The Sinatra Suite was an unexpected delight. It was delightful to see the dancers segue from jazz to traditional and back. A really wonderful interpretation of Sinatra songs. And Fancy Free, with full orchestra, was another wonderful piece, whimsical, humorous and delightful. We always enjoy seeing performances by the ABT, and always find them challenging and wonderful. Please extend our thanks to the performers, include the musicians.

    Amazing!

by ChiSher on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Wow, this ballet was fantastic! There were four different "acts" with the first being your traditional ballet. That was flawless! The second was a man and a woman dancing and it was more of a contemporary ballet which was very good. The third was Misty Copeland and her partner dancing to Frank Sinatra and OMG that was to die for! Wow, I can't say enough about it. The last act was more of a broadway show, which I could have passed on. All together I would highly recommend it!

The Best of the best in the best

The ABt is America's great ballet company. They did their most famous pieces in the nation's most glorious theater. What could be better?

    American Ballet Theatre

by BHUTCHIE on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

American Ballet Theatre was pretty good. The modern first act was good, trying new moves. Only problem is that you could hear their feet hit the floor. The second act, the Sinatra part, was phenomenal. This should have been the closer. The last act was pretty good, but should have been the middle of the performance. Overall, pretty good.

The American Ballet Theatre production was amazing

by JamesLMc on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

My wife and I went to the Saturday night performance and it was an amazing production. Twyla Tharp's choreography is fantastic. The dancers performed with so much precision. Misty Copeland is a true talent, she was a wonder to watch. Gillian Murphy, Stella Abrera, James Whiteside, Marcelo Gomes and Calvin Royal III all were great in the opening act - Bach Partita. The violinist did an outstanding job. How could he play for so long? Wow. Some Assembly Required was fun to watch. It completely captured the ups and downs, on the same page, not on the same page, of a relationship. Clark Tippet did a fabulous job capturing the essence of a comprehensive romantic relationship. Frank Sinatra Suite was great - Misty Copeland is a wonderful talent. She was everything I thought she would be live. The dancers moved with such grace and ease. Great show. We loved every minute of it.

What can be wrong with a performance at the Auditorium Theater !! Enjoyable, I was in a box seat that was so close I could hear the toe shoes and footwork! A nice afternoon and the Auditorium staff, ushers, employees are all so pleasant and helpful.

    American Ballet Theater 4 dances

by dancingispainting on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The two Twyla Tharp dances were absolutely terrific, especially Sinatra Songs with Copeland and Gomes. The dancing for Some Work Needed was very good but the music is strange and discordant with the dancing. Fancy Free is too dated and was not very energetically or interesting danced, and should be retired from the repertoire.

    ABT - really?

by GRANDMAALMOST on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

First off - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ABT. I was so excited that they were coming to town. I have been going since I was young (and I'm no spring chicken), but the pieces they chose to perform in Chicago seemed very random - kind of like a "pre-opening" night to see how the audience received it. Very disappointed. Won't stop me from going to see ABT again, but please step up your game.... Sinatra (really?) I thought I was watching Dancing With The Stars. Fancy Free - Did you really have to revive Broadway? If I wanted Broadway I would have gone to see Broadway. My reaction is not fair to the dancers, however, who were fabulous.

    ABT does it again!

by Simplykatheen on 10/7/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Had a wonderful evening taking my daughter to the ballet. We had great seats with plenty of leg room and the view was perfect!. There was that special mist in the air of being around all those dancers again. (I was a dance major in college) I bought daughter a long sleeve shirt with the ABT logo on it and we went to our seats. Extremely enjoyable evening watching the three principle dancers and their partners. Watching Misty Copeland was sheer icing on the cake!

    Misty Copeland earned a star

by Reted on 10/6/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

As followers of Misty Copeland who has met her and heard her unique story, we were amazed and thrilled with her performance with the ABT in Chicago. She was flawless at every opportunity, especially with the Sinatra Songs. We were pleased that the Tribune critic agreed but thought she was off the mark with her mediocre critique of Fancy Free. We thought the ABT performed this classic to perfection.

I enjoyed the performances. The incorporation of different, non-ballet , styles of dance was a nice touch.

Can't beat ballet at the Auditorium

    by Marsacademy2 on 10/6/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The Auditorium Theatre is quite possibly the best place in town to see any ballet performance; the perfect acoustics allow you to hear every football, which is important. American Ballet Theatre doesn't come to Chicago all that often, so I try not to miss them when they do. This performance didn't disappoint; new star Misty Copeland was as brilliant as I had heard, and several older favorites (Gomes, Murphy) were as brilliant as always. Good sightlines, perfect sound, great company - what more could you ask?

    Lovely evening of ballet

by Joshudan on 10/6/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The dancers were fantastic, although the program didn't show off their talents as much as we had hoped. The music was amazing, especially the violinist who performed a wonderful solo piece during one of the pas de deuxs. ABT never fails to deliver, and the Auditorium theater is one of our favorite venues. In honor of their 125th anniversary we even bought a t-shirt :)
