About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

Outstanding performance! It was fun listening to the songs from the early 1970s and reminiscing of those times. I missed Gerry Beckley. There was a little too much emphasis on electric guitars for my liking especially on a couple of songs that are traditionally acoustic.

America put on a great show. Got to hear all the classics and some great storytelling along the way. Five stars

  • Not what I was expecting

by Vwlover71 on 5/7/25Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

I grew up with America and had all of the albums. I was expecting a relatively laid-back experience like I remembered. Not so. The band did a lot of excessive guitar work, and it was loud. I enjoy different types of music but this was totally not what I expected. My date said he didn't expect a hard, rocking-out show. The new vocalist sounds like a country singer and it sounded out of tune. They did play their hits, but with the new vocalist, they didn't even sound much like the band I grew up with. I was disappointed.

The singing was a little disappointing it was a simple stage presentation. I guess I was expecting a sound that was similar to the original. I did enjoy it though.

  • America at the Tanger Greensboro.

Very good show. Dewey's voice was great. I did miss Beckley but these are the days. I wish him a wonderful retirement. Tanger greensboro is a good venue.

The concert was a gift from my wife, and I was absolutely blow away! We both enjoyed it so much. The performance was as good as the original in 1979. The sound was great, the show was great, the singing was amazing! It was if no time has gone by. So many memories! The talent of the newer members was so incredible! We would see this show again and again. Thank you, America, for being the soundtrack of my life!

We saw America about five years ago in Atlanta. They were wonderful. When they came back through Knoxville last week, we were excited. There was only one member of the original band, and they’ve turned it from a pleasant listening music group into hard rock ‘n’ roll. We were not a fan and did not enjoy the songs. Most of America’s best songs were not included in the playlist.

  • Great Show - Only One Original Band Member

by Happy Fan on 5/5/25Knoxville Civic Auditorium - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

America put on a great show. They sang and played for an hour and a half with no opening act which was refreshing. There's only one original member of the band left, but the supporting cast did an excellent job! They sang all their hits and didn't try to slide anything new and unknown. Great show! Highly recommended!

  • Great show. They’re amazing!

by Mike B on 5/5/25Knoxville Civic Auditorium - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely fantastic concert. Even though Dewey Brunel was the only remaining original member, everyone in the band did their job to make the presentation sound like the original band was still all together. Played all the great hits and I was able to participate in the meet and greet with Dewey who is just a great down-to-earth guy to talk to. Would do it again tomorrow

  • Fantastic Classic Rock

by TG on 4/16/25TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats to see old friend Dewey Bunnell. I have been seeing America in concert since their first Cleveland appearance in 1973. Dewey's rock style make this the best America concert since the first one. Dewey totally over-delivered. Bring him back to Cleveland again in a nicer venue. Rock on Dewey and America.

  • Fun Time

They sounded great, and some of the new members were really talented! Played all the hits and rocked unexpectantly hard. It was a good time and I only wished I had seen them at their prime.

  • Fantastic!

12 rows from stage was so awesome. Great music & film. Thank you for comming to CLEVELAND.

  • Could have been better

by Chuck on 4/15/25TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - ClevelandRating: 3 out of 5

Disappointed in that the fact that only Dewey was there and not Jamie. Missing something. Sitting in the balcony was scary and could not see the whole stage. At the end we tried to leave by the exits in the back of the balcony but the doors were locked at the bottom. Good thing there wasn’t a fire. And, of course, parking was a mess.

  • What a show at a great venue.

My wife has been a fan of America since the 1970's. I lived in London when the band was getting together. Surprised that neither of us had seen them live. The Masonic Temple has great acoustics. No elevators but at 76 years I was OK with the stairs.
