About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

  • Legendary Band America

by Doctordentist on 10/27/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the concert. They played all the hits. Can't really go wrong with a legendary act but was sad that Gerry retired recently. Dewey was now flying solo.

  • Great Show

by Brad on 10/27/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

America's set was filled with all their hits and a few extras. This is a must see show. One of the sentimental highlights was showing the late Dan Peek singing along to Lonely People. Great show!

  • Teally good concert

by Pgaleen on 10/27/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

The lead said he had been doing this for 54 years. Glad I wasn’t drinking anything because I would have spit it everywhere. Didn’t realized he had been singing as long as I am old. The concert was really good. Wasn’t so loud that it blew your ears out but loud enough to be heard in the back. Only one of the originals 3 guys was there. He still sounded true to what we heard on the radio or streaming now. 90 minute set and I knew the majority of the songs. No opening act. The venue was small which is great. Seats just over 2000. No need for projector screen so you can see them. Plenty of parking but get there an hour early.

  • America was great even with just one original member

by Cindy on 10/27/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was great but the only complaint I have is the background screen. We were on the 3rd floor and couldn’t see the top of the screen so we missed a lot of the videos.

  • Not the same any more

    by D Brin on 10/25/24Rating: 1 out of 5

They don’t sound good without Gerry…big disappointment.

  • Great fun with a classic band

by Sara on 10/23/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

We caught the band America on tour at the lovely DPAC arena in Durham, NC. No warm-up band, and other than one short break the band played the entire time. Greatly enjoyed the music and the stories. Have to say 99% of the folks attending were silver-haired (like me). Everyone seemed to have a good time.

  • Bucket List

by Lisa on 10/23/24F.M. Kirby Center - Wilkes BarreRating: 5 out of 5

Seeing America was on my bucket list. Loved them since I was a pre teen. They did not disappoint. The crowd was into it and it was all that I expected.

  • Still the same sound

First time to see them. Familiar songs, great band. My wife loved so much.

Great venue, great music, and a great night! Highly recommend this.

  • Great show. Loved it.

by Miss D on 10/22/24F.M. Kirby Center - Wilkes BarreRating: 5 out of 5

Nothing bad to say, except they didn't do 'Driving'. One of my favorites. (Did miss Gerry, though.)

Lines were long and slow entering. Otherwise the experience was great.

  • A sweet surrender!

by Susan on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

The America concert at Hershey was sweeter than chocolate.! The guitar work was over the top....stellar! Dewey's voice was right on and carried it off without a glitch. This is the first concert I have seen without Gerry..and was unsure what it was going to be like .....no worries! The America sound was there...with the other musicians lending their talents! Unbelievable! Everyone jelled together beautifully. It truly was a Dewey Bunnell experience. A stunning performance by all! They made the"sweetest place on earth"even sweeter!

  • Didn’t pay to see covers

by Vic on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 2 out of 5

America has such an extensive song list, why would they play covers? So disappointing

  • Great show!

by Bender on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen America before. It was essentially the same show I saw about a year ago but still enjoyed it. The music and musicians are fantastic. Hershey Theatre is a great venue.

  • Very good overall.

by Bill on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

Concert overall was good. Band, Sound System, good. High Energy. Played everything from their catalog you'd want to hear along with some new material. ONLY problem was with the Hershey Venue. They have NO Wi-Fi in the Building and Phone Tickets won't load. Had this problem there before. They resolved it BUT how much does it cost to put a Modem (or something) to eliminate this? Had to go thru security three times.

  • Great trip down memory lane.

by THill on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

Even tho only 1 original member, band still rocked. Great concert. Amazing how long America has been around. Still great

  • Good Show

by Roz on 10/21/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed the show. Great classic group. What's not to like? Only complaint (and this goes for just about every indoor performance and venue nowadays) is that they would make the experience so much better if they turned down the volume a few notches. I'm convinced that musicians and people who work in fields like radio lose their hearing from their day-to-day jobs. Then they have to crank the volume up later in life because they can't hear well. Sadly, short of a piano recital, I think my days of indoor performances are over. Just too loud and given I have experienced some hearing loss, it's just not worth it anymore.
