About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

  • Fantastic concert.

Brings me back to my youth and care free days. Excellent performance. Great back round content related to what they are playing.

  • America concert

by JMusic on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 2 out of 5

One person from the original America Dewey Bunnell, the rest were session musicians. Played obscure songs produced by George Martin which sounded like a bunch of music spliced together. Lots of electric guitar played "Cinnamon Girl"written by Neil Young along with "California Dreaming"written by the Momas and the Papas and other electric songs. I get it that (America) may be tired of playing their usual "hits", but the audience wanted to hear the hits. There were a handful of America's hits that were played.

  • Ride On!

by Jerome on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

My first surprise was that Gerry Beckley was not playing. I did not realize that he had announced that he was not touring with Dewey and team this year. Dewey Bunnell put on a very good show. He had a bunch of very good young musicians with him. But he had one older one who had been with America for many years, his name is Rich Campbell. If you ever get a chance to hear the way he plays his Bass Guitar, you'll see he does it effortlessly. And his back up harmonies are spot on. I'm a guitar player and I loved watching all of the talent on the stage. The only other concern was that the show lasted less than a hour and a half. I was ready for more. I've always loved America and have played Sister Golden Hair, Ventura Highway, and Tin Man, for many years. I was honored to see and hear Dewey and Rich, and their young guns, as they played me back to my high school days. America - Ride On Fellas!

  • Loved it!

America brought the 70's back! Loved the graphics and the commentary between songs. The musicians were multi talented and rocked the house! I never got to see America back in the day, so I was thrilled to see this show, the sound track of my youth!

  • Fantastic show!

by Ritaroo on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

America was a bucket list concert for me and it didn't disappoint. Even though Dewey is the only original member still touring, his bandmates did an excellent job. It was fun to look back at the history of the group on the big screen behind them and actually listen to Dan Peek sing. Many of the songs were done chronologically by album and it was really cool to sing along with many and hear new (to me) songs that really rocked. I also loved the Taft Theater in Cincy. It's a smaller venue which is much more intimate. All in all, it was an hour and a half (roughly) of super great memories. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend seeing and hearing America at a concert near you!

  • Disappointed

    by JK1956 on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

Would never have bought tickets to only see one original member of America. Did not find out till 30 minutes before the concert that Beckley had left the tour. Bought tickets long before he “retired “. Would have appreciated being informed. Having said that the guy who replaced him was unbelievably good.

  • Fun Time Seeing America again.

    by Jack S on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

I had a fun time reliving old memories with a group I loved during my high school and college days. Although there was only one member of the original group, the music was great and everyone enjoyed it.

  • Awesome night at the Taft!!

by Jill on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

So loved being a teenager again listening to one of my favorite bands. America presented guests with all their hits, along with a few covers. The Taft was a great venue to enjoy their music and the crowd certainly responded with their appreciation. A wonderful trip down memory lane!

  • America at The Taft Theatre

by Carl on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert. Dewey Bunnell and the band sounded great. Played 1hr and 40 minutes. Played all the hits. Enjoyed the tribute to Dan Peek. Sorry that Gerry Beckley retired before we were able to see him. My first concert was America in Pittsburgh in 1975.

  • Great, but a short concert

by Jimbach on 10/28/24Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

Loved seeing America, but their concert was a bit short - even with them playing two songs that were not even theirs.

Great evening out! Thank you, America, for letting us relive our younger days. Amazing musicians and of course, enjoyed Dewey singing the lead. Loved the background and the tribute to Dan.

  • Nostalgic Show

by CarrieJ on 10/28/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

America has been rocking out for so many years…..and they still “Got it.!” I loved the songs that everyone knows, but also enjoyed the lesser known songs they played, as all meme era have incredible musicianship. The storytelling between songs, about the heyday of rock music, added to to the night, along with and the images and movies from the ‘60s and ‘70s that played behind on the screen…. All together, you left with a feeling of nostalgia and a throwback to the 1970s!

  • America Rides On

by Susie on 10/28/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Considering that only 1 of the 3 original performers were here, this was great! Bunnell was very personable and in good voice, the musicianship was outstanding, and the video background added a lot. The sound in Clowes Hall was good. Parking was a bit problematic, as there was another event on campus, but the garage ended up being free, and after the concert they had personnel on the lower floors who expedited things.

  • It was a super concert!

    by Oldsters… on 10/28/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

So glad we attended! Great venue. Songs of our youth brought back lots of good memories. Gourmet popcorn/carmel corn was very stale and chewy!

  • America was a great show!

  • America at Clowes Center 10/24/2024

by Big Dee on 10/27/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

We drove from St Louis to Indianapolis on Wednesday to see America for the first time. Great venue with sufficient handicap parking. Played all of the songs I wanted to hear . Approximately 20 songs in an hour and a half with no intermission. Music was dead on and their harmonies were exceptional with a few clinkers here and there. Saved Sandman and Horse with no name for last. Great rendition of Ventura Highway, I need You ,Daisey Jane and others. Would have loved to hear 3 Roses but they can’t play them all. Great Show!
