About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

  • Mediocre Show Minus Gerry Beckley

    by America Fan54 on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

I didn’t know until the day of the show Gerry had retired from the road. The show was advertised as America, not the Dewey Bunnell show. Dewey was great. But hearing him sing Gerry’s songs and hearing the young guitar player who looked nothing like Gerry singing Gerry’s songs was not the America experience I was expecting and certainly not as good as a show with Gerry and Dewey together. The sound at the venue was muddy. I’ve seen other shows there from essentially the same seats on the floor and the sound was great for those shows. I paid around $640 for a pair of floor seats in Row D and was sadly disappointed. Buyer beware. It’s not the same without Gerry.

  • Our first time at the Paramount

    by Mike H on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Always been a fan of America even though I grew up in the 80s.I always loved classic rock from the 70s. They have so many great hits and played them all and a few bonus covers.America has a connection to Colorado making a few recordings nearby outside of Boulder(Caribou Ranch). Thanks for stopping by we love you guys,

The America concert was great! Thank you to all of you. Even the parking was good!

  • Great music; lousy sound engineering.

by Eric on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

America are legends; their music speaks for itself. However it would have been nice to be able to hear them with some clarity. Instead the speakers were being overdriven for almost the entire show, in an effort to maintain a completely unnecessary 100 decimal baseline. The speakers and amps at The Paramount Theatre are just not good enough to maintain clear sound at those levels. Bring it down a notch next time so we can at least hear what the music is supposed to sound like, even if it’s at a more reasonable volume.

  • Disappointing

by Mom on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

It was great to see and hear Dewey Bunnnell! The other singer they had doing the higher octave songs was not very good. He was very nasally and ruined the songs. I thought there were too many guitar solos. It wasn’t the nice acoustic sound of America. I was very disappointed.

  • Concerts at Paramount Theater!

by Kristine on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Going to the Paramount is a great experience! I have gone to W.A.S.P. and Lita Ford back in the day!! and now I seen AMERICA!! Such a fantastic time. If you have never been.....IT'S TIME!! You won't be disappointed.

  • America

by Nonnie on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show! Disappointing that the marquee was not lit up, and the $19 price tax for a margarita was exorbitant. America sounded fantastic though!

  • Paramount Theater/America

by Cheryl on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Access into the theater and seating is always easy. Bathrooms always a nightmare. Concerts are always so short at the Paramount 1h 15m.

  • Glad I attended

by BG on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

This was postponed from August 17. I enjoyed the concert. The sound system seemed not great and lowering volume a little may have improved sound quality.

  • Audio Mix

    by RonJai47 on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

We've been to many Paramount Theater shows and concerts over the years and the venue is good for the price point normally charged for the events and you can't beat the free Tremont parking venue offered in the packages. I thought the audio mix at the America concert was off. Way off...the music just overwhelmed the voices so that understanding the vocal presentation wasn't very good at all. I've heard much better audio from the same location so I don't think that was the cause. I think this sound engineer was just not in tune with the mix of music, singing and acoustics that have to fit together to make a great concert successful. That part was disappointing.

  • Very uncomfortable seats, sound needs improvement.

by America at Paramount in Denver on 12/7/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

America was good. However, the venue was not goo. Paid $160+ per seat to sit in very uncomfortable seats. 4th time I have been to Paramount in 15 months and no improvement in seats. There is no shoulder room as these are folding chairs attached to each other. You need at least 3 inches between each seat to be comfortable. They should do a test to have 15 people sit together for that long for 3 hours so they can find out for themselves this is a very shabby seating arrangement. Sound could have been better. Especially for the video shown prior to the band playing on stage.

  • It was America, but not

by Chris on 11/26/24Harrah's Resort SoCal - The Events Center - Valley CenterRating: 3 out of 5

We had seen America a couple of years ago when there were still two of the original band members and it was great. However, this time, with just one remaining original member, was marginal. The replacement, while musically gifted, did not have the vocals to carry the American magic.

  • Mediocre. Like watching a garage band practice

by Rey on 11/26/24Harrah's Resort SoCal - The Events Center - Valley CenterRating: 3 out of 5

We were excited at the beginning of the performance then it dwindled to boring. I was disappointed with the other performances when Dewey is not the lead singer. I wish they had a better replacement for Gerry and the lead guitarist

Loved this venue. We were very happy with the size of the venue. The sound and monitors were great. I saw America when I was a teenager and seeing and hearing most of their songs again 40 years later was great.

  • A bit disappointed

by Joe T on 11/26/24Harrah's Resort SoCal - The Events Center - Valley CenterRating: 2 out of 5

When I paid for tickets Gerry Beckly was a touring member. I would have not purchased tickets if I had know he wouldn’t be with the band. Good concert but not great.

  • Great show

One of our favorites. Real cool that they brought their kids and families to the stage for last song.

Can’t believe America has been around for 50 years! They still bring it! The music brings back great memories. The band members, old and new, were warm and talented. I felt grateful to be able to attend. The songs will be playing in my head for many more days to come!
