About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

A terrific concert and they sounded amazing. They played all their hits and even played Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl". That sounded so good too.

  • Fantastic!

Great seeing them again. Fantastic musicians, singing - very talented and a very "tight"group. If you can, don't hesitate to see them!

  • Great show by America

    by Kath B. on 1/22/25Rating: 5 out of 5

America continues to tour as one of the standout best rock shows in the world. Dewey has done an unparalleled (and I thought impossible) job in reinventing the show without Gerry. I knew the new show would still be good, but I’m amazed at how great the show still is. Andy Barr soars, and the entire band is at its best. Also, Gerry is still there in heart and spirit; Dan Peek too. So Ride On Dewey! We will ever follow the trail. (This show should alternate weekends at the Sphere with the Eagles. It is more than that good!). Thank you America! Happy retirement Gerry!

  • Nice Try, But No. Just No.

by KL on 12/24/24Rating: 2 out of 5

Supremely disappointed. The two "new"guitarists continuously tried to outdo each other with the showmanship. That's not what America is/was about. Dewey can still play and has his voice (90%), but the "style"of the band and the vocals of the others is not on par with the originals. Gerry is no longer touring, so be aware of that up front. And while all the big hits were played, it was a short concert - seriously. 1 hour and 20 mins start to finish - and that's with audience interaction, story telling, intros, etc. I would not recommend spending the money. Stay home, put the headphones on, and listen to the albums or watch the old videos on YouTube. Seriously.

I am not happy about them rescheduling the concert from August to December. I don’t like paying for tickets and not getting a concert. If you committed to a date, you should show up and give the concert.

  • Awesome Concert

by Gonzo on 12/10/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

The America: Ride On concert at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, FL on 12/07/24 was just awesome! They played all of the songs that we all know and love. The enthusiasm of the band members really stood out as they played their music. Dewey Bunnell introduced every member of America team. Starting with the team members that diligently work behind the scenes to ensure that the performance is a memorable experience to the band members on the stage and each member's musical background experience. He spoke fondly of his fellow found members and their contributions to what made America a standout band. I highly recommend seeing America when they tour again.

  • America Concert

by David M on 12/10/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

We went and saw America last Saturday. It was a postponed show from right around hurricane Milton. It was a very good show and I just wish the other band member original one was still with the band. I know they lost Dan years ago, but I was hoping Gerry was touring with them and he’s not. Dewey sounded great and I loved his stories. Real good backing band and good vocals. All in all the good show. And we thoroughly enjoyed one of their songs.

  • Best Ever

All of their hits plus more! Got invited backstage by the bass player's wife!! Completely blown away by their concert!

  • Good but original member gone.

by Cosmo on 12/10/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

When the show started I was disappointed because Gerry Berkley was gone and Dewey Bunnell was the only original member playing. I had heard nothing about Berkley retiring from touring. As the show developed, however, I was for the most part won back. Bunnell’s singing was very good and the supporting musicians were very good.

  • We rocked❣️

What a fantastic birthday I had…..sounded as good as their first album I listened to in the 70’s. Not one bad song……could’ve listened all night…..thank you AMERICA❣️❣️❣️

  • Handicapped fiasco

by Queen of NH on 12/10/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

Got to the theater.. beautiful facility Parking was a nightmare.. they sent us into the parking garage at the theater.. I am handicapped.. the man would not let my husband drop me off.. ended up on the top floor of the parking garage.. found out that the elevator wasn't working.. couldn't drive my mobility card down into the garage with no lights etc so I had to climb down 72 stairs holding on to the banister with both hands And then climb up 32 stairs total to get to my seat at the theater.. i was told they were a few stairs.. not 32.. thank God the elevator in the theater worked for two flights It would not have killed these people to either put a flashing sign saying no elevator service in garage.. cuz I wasn't the only one affected.. or even a mass email.. saying we would like our theater patrons to know that the elevator in the garage isn't working so please plan accordingly.. they do not seem to care.. we've already decided to probably never go back to that theater again.. unless they give me tickets LOL and then I better be on the first floor

  • So many great songs!

by Lesa on 12/9/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

This was a really fun night, I forgot how many great songs they have and they still sound so good even without all of the original members. Dewy is superb and I was lucky enough to get one of his guitar picks which made my night!

  • It was a great sing along concert

by Carol on 12/8/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show. Sang along to all the songs.

Talk about a trip down memory lane. I grew up with America’s music and their music remains timeless. Great performance.
