About

Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo Legend. Get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage. At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone!

Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. Also, keep a lookout for master impressionist C.P. Lacey, the resident Executioner who sweeps bad talent off the stage.

    Amateur Night is Fun

by Modabouttown on 11/3/14Apollo Theater - New York

This was a fun evening ! Best part is sitting in an iconic venue where all the great soul and R & B acts have appeared over the years. Loved the warm up act and the house band. Compere was funny and excellent in getting brilliant audience participation. The amateurs were "some good"- " some bad" but that's part of the experience. It's good to boo sometimes.

One of the best NEW YORK NIghts I've ever had.

by valinzee on 11/1/14Apollo Theater - New York

The House Band, Announcers, and Hosts are amazing. We were all moving in our seats. Such great energy. I felt like I was in an old southern Gospel Church and the Holy Spirit was rooooollllin'. when the talent came on, it was just so much fun. the kids were great and the adults too. It's so much more authentic than American Idol, but is a similar type situation (except YOU are the judge). There are people there from all over the world which makes it really cool, but you definitely get that old Harlem vibe which I just love. There are great restaurants all around too if you want a bite or drink after. We had cocktails at Red Rooster post show and ended up dancing with all these amazing dancers who were in town from Africa. It was a wonderful night, and I was still home early enough to not feel exhuasted the next day for work.

    Must See Show, Legendary Venue!

    by jwhockey4 on 4/30/14Apollo Theater - NYC

The Apollo is an NYC institution, and Amateur Night is its signature event. If you've never been - need an original weeknight date idea, , you're a tourist in nyc seeing a show, or just an excuse to party on Wednesday - you never know who might be hosting or performing and such a value price. Anyway, you can always tell who's a first timer in the audience since it takes about half of your first Amateur Night experience to realize it's the talent show where you're supposed to boo. On any given night, it could be a singer, dancer, or other weird America's Got Talent type performance that wins...oh, and Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, James Brown and Lauryn Hill all got their start at Amateur Night. So maybe you'll be that lucky?

    Amateur Night full of laughs

by Pocahantas83 on 10/27/12Amateur Night at the Apollo - Harlem NY

My husband and I were on our annv trip in NYC and he saw an ad for Amateur Night in a booklet....I must say, it is a "must attend" show when visiting just like a Broadway play. We had a great time and will always make it a part of our plans for furture trips to NYC.
