ALVVAYS IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie pop outfit Alvvays made big moves in 2014, releasing their self-titled debut album to heaps of critical acclaim and a No. 1 spot on the US college charts before hitting the road on a highly anticipated tour. The band's live shows picked up where the album left off, featuring the wry, honest vocals of frontwoman Molly Rankin atop a gauzy wash of distorted guitar, jangly percussion, and vintage synth riffs. Rankin's unaffected voice is an ideal vessel, allowing her conflicted lyrics -- mundane and full of wonder in turns -- to really shine on songs like "Adult Diversion" and "Archie, Marry Me". A rising young act with big things on the horizon, Alvvays has fans eager to experience their nostalgic, fuzzed-out live shows on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Alvvays formed in Toronto in 2012 around the music of Molly Rankin, a budding singer-songwriter who had previously released a solo EP in 2010. Shortly after that solo outing Rankin teamed up with childhood friend Kerri MacLellan (keyboards) and high school buddy Alec O'Hanley (guitar), and with the addition of bassist Brian "Ginger" Murphy and drummer Phil MacIsaac they became Alvvays. The group spent a couple years honing their sound and building a fanbase with regional shows, and in 2014 they released their self-titled debut album. The record was a success, topping the US college charts and earning praise from critics including Stereogum, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. The group made good on their growing reputation, delivering a string of powerful performances on their first headlining tour. Alvvays continues to deliver their high-energy indie sound to enthusiastic ticket buyers across the country, building anticipation for their highly anticipated sophomore album.

Over the course of their career, Alvvays have played venues such as The Depot, the Fillmore, and the Observatory North Park to capacity.

  • Great concert

Loved every minute of it. Their mellow songs rocked. Great musicianship

  • Absolutely Incredible

by JJ on 8/17/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

The Sound is a great venue, not only in terms of sound quality but accessibility. Alvvays themselves absolutely put on one of the best shows I’ve seen. Molly’s live vocals are even better than in studio, and Alec does a really great job adding to the shoegaze-esque vibe, even with some of the older cuts. Very loud, but with purpose. See them!

  • Great show and venue

by Nevver on 8/17/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 4 out of 5

Both bands were great. Sound was good. Staff was nice. Bathrooms were very clean. Seats on balcony were uncomfortable and the seating # scheme was confusing to anyone trying to find them, including the staff. Put the seat letter and number ON THE seat! Not on the table. $20 parking? Way too much. I recommend the Sound otherwise

  • Nice. Quick. Efficient.

I thought it everything was great except the price.

  • Flawless

The music and vocals were flawless. One of the best live shows I’ve been to in years. Their energy was joyful and infectious. I highly recommend seeing Alvvays live if you have the chance!!

  • Alvvays - Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

    by Kevin W. on 5/9/24Mercury Ballroom - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The Alvvays concert was a fantastic experience. I had never seen them prior, and they put on an excellent show. Great sound, songs, and energy. The music was crisp and clear and and not overwhelming. The Mercury Ballroom is a great venue. It is intimate and comfortable without being too small. Great evening to hear an excellent band!

  • FANTASTIC SHOW

    by TunaMan808 on 5/8/24The Underground - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

Alvvays *should* be the biggest band in the world. They proved it with this show, where they blew the doors off The Underground. People love ripping on Live Nation, but this venue has always treated me right (mostly). The staff I interacted with were professional, the sound was really LOUD yet really mixed well. My only beef is that it was raining, and folks were using umbrellas to keep dry. Except they wouldn't let you in with an umbrella. There was a big stack of them by the door, and we were promised they'd still be there when we got out and we could pick it up on the way out. Only, *all* of them were gone when the show ended.

  • Great

  • Alvvays Madison Concert

    by J Jay on 4/27/24The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the band Alvvays at the Sylvee in Madison, WI and it was great. Both the venue and band was fantastic! I'd definitely go see Alvvays again and see a show at the Sylvee.

  • they sound amaze balls live.

by viv on 8/31/23Rating: 5 out of 5

even though i only stayed for a couple of their songs after alex g, the lead singer literally sounded and look like a nordic princess. the acoustics were beautiful, and the live versions were just as good if not better than studio.

  • Actually blown away

by Cole on 3/21/23Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

So Alvvays sounds incredible live. I was super blown away. Easily one of the strongest live acts I’ve ever seen actually. Often I’ll go to shows and bands don’t quite live up to how good the record is. Molly is incredible and the band was extremely tight. Blown away.

  • Great show

Both bands were outstanding. Great staff. 9.50 a bit pricey for a amall beer

  • Such a Good Show!

by Balakay on 3/7/23LONDON MUSIC HALL - LondonRating: 5 out of 5

Super excited to see this show and it did not disappoint. The band gave it their all, their screens behind them added some nice flair to the performance too. Mollys voice is just as insane live as it is on the albums. I even got to meet the Molly, Alec, and Kerri afterwards and they signed my album! Would definitely see them again

  • Sublime!

  • They ROCKED!!!

by AWV on 12/18/22History - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Their set list was great! Started with Pharmacy...though, I wished they finished with Marry Me, Archie but it's was good nonetheless Slow pulp was good too! I think the acoustics of the room + the mix made it sound so much like the record in a good way! I forgot my earplugs but I didn't even end up needing them cuz it was mixed so well!

  • Best concert ever

  • Out of body experience

by Will on 12/4/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Alvvays has ruled my spotify #1 spot for over a year now, and when I found out they were touring, I knew I had to go. They couldn’t have sounded better, even though I went to the concert not feeling well, hearing the whole band let it all out made it so worth it, I cannot wait to see them again one day. 100/10
