ALVVAYS IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie pop outfit Alvvays made big moves in 2014, releasing their self-titled debut album to heaps of critical acclaim and a No. 1 spot on the US college charts before hitting the road on a highly anticipated tour. The band's live shows picked up where the album left off, featuring the wry, honest vocals of frontwoman Molly Rankin atop a gauzy wash of distorted guitar, jangly percussion, and vintage synth riffs. Rankin's unaffected voice is an ideal vessel, allowing her conflicted lyrics -- mundane and full of wonder in turns -- to really shine on songs like "Adult Diversion" and "Archie, Marry Me". A rising young act with big things on the horizon, Alvvays has fans eager to experience their nostalgic, fuzzed-out live shows on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Alvvays formed in Toronto in 2012 around the music of Molly Rankin, a budding singer-songwriter who had previously released a solo EP in 2010. Shortly after that solo outing Rankin teamed up with childhood friend Kerri MacLellan (keyboards) and high school buddy Alec O'Hanley (guitar), and with the addition of bassist Brian "Ginger" Murphy and drummer Phil MacIsaac they became Alvvays. The group spent a couple years honing their sound and building a fanbase with regional shows, and in 2014 they released their self-titled debut album. The record was a success, topping the US college charts and earning praise from critics including Stereogum, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. The group made good on their growing reputation, delivering a string of powerful performances on their first headlining tour. Alvvays continues to deliver their high-energy indie sound to enthusiastic ticket buyers across the country, building anticipation for their highly anticipated sophomore album.

Over the course of their career, Alvvays have played venues such as The Depot, the Fillmore, and the Observatory North Park to capacity.

    Out of body experience

    by W. P. on 12/4/22

Alvvays has ruled my spotify #1 spot for over a year now, and when I found out they were touring, I knew I had to go. They couldn’t have sounded better, even though I went to the concert not feeling well, hearing the whole band let it all out made it so worth it, I cannot wait to see them again one day. 100/10

Alvvays were phenomenal, and the sound at Kings Theater is top notch

    Great tunes, appalling sound

by SPL on 11/19/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Alvvays songs and playing were great but the sound at Kings Theatre was appalling. I don’t know if that’s an issue with the theatre’s space or an issue with how the sound was set up. Either way, little at the low end and the treble far too brash, actually abrasive - I thought at first the speaker stack nearer us had blown

Kings Theatre in Brooklyn is a gem!!

by PeterD on 11/19/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

When you walk into the Kings Theatre you’re seemingly transported back in time. One of the original Loews movie houses, it’s grandeur cannot be understated. Openers Slow Pulp warmed the crowd with their unique blend of dream and edge. The vocals- ethereal, but pointed. Then came Alvvays! The band brims with songs that feel like the listener is simultaneously sitting on a California beach in the early 1960’s, while exploring a new underground NYC club. A fabulous show, great tunes and an appreciative crowd.

    Great show, terrible crowd

by Dan on 11/19/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Giving Alvvays 5 stars for their performance. Giving 0 stars for the lame crowd in the mezzanine. A group of us were asked to sit down which in over 100 concerts have never had happen. Someone even asked an usher to ask us to sit down. It’s a rock concert not the opera. The concert itself was great and Alvvays had a fantastic set.

    Just… so good

by EkatDC on 11/14/229:30 CLUB - Washington

Alvvays brought this dreamy ambiance to the 9:30 Club I haven’t experienced there before. The set list was well chosen and the set design was unique and not distracting. It makes sense why it sold out!

Good show, terrible crowd and venue

    by N on 11/14/229:30 CLUB - Washington

I attended this show to see slow pulp and showed up a few minutes after the website said they would begin performing only to find that the 9:30 club barely gave slow pulp a sound check and cut their set short by 30 minutes?? Meaning I did not get to see the band I paid for, on top of that the venue started getting terribly over crowded with people who seemingly only had interest in being there cause it was a place to get drunk, throwing beer at others, people not being mindful of themselves etc, and no mosh pit even to allow the chaos. Alvvays set was amazing but the crowd and the venue cuttings the band I paid for ruined the trip.

Great band, nice venue, sound needs improvements

by Alex R. on 11/2/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I was rather excited to see Alvvays at the Wiltern because of it's history and how nice of a venue it is. The whole show was great and the Wiltern was nice. My biggest issue was the mixing of the music. I was standing next to the mixing board the whole night and it was all rather vocal-forward. Really missed out on the intricacies of the band. Also the band walked out to some sort of chanting song which was fine but the low end of the track sounded like the speaker was going to explode.

    People Love Hats

by Jules on 11/1/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

People sure love wearing their big costume hats indoors when seeing a concert during Halloween. Unfortunately, having great taste in fashion can be rude and annoying for other guests seeing the show also. I’d have to remind people standing in front of me or moving around the crowd that their hat for their costume is blocking my view and everybody else behind them. People paid to see a concert, not someone’s hat.

by Uly on 11/1/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The band was amazing! The venue on the otherhand was beautiful but confusing I thought the pit and GA were different since the last show I had there had it set like that but for this one it wasnt? Couldnt get pit cause of it but still had a good spot!
