About

Allen Stone is an R&B / soul singer from Chewelah, WA. The son of the pastor of the local church, he was immersed in gospel from an early age until he found funk and soul as a teenager through Stevie Wonder’s Innversions. Billboard has praised his “disarmingly soulful vocals” and WXPN says "his energetic shows, plus his warm and evocative albums, explain why Stone has such a solid fan base". Allen released his 3rd studio album in 2019 called Building Balance that includes hit songs Brown Eyed Lover, Sunny Days, and Consider Me. Building Balance is a textured amalgam of R&B and soul, which saw Stone draw inspiration from ‘70s funk and punctuate his music with modern pop flourishes. His latest release, a cover of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love”, is the first song off his upcoming acoustic album APART, due to releases Nov 12th. “This album was a way to pay homage to the songs that have been my foundational support for the last decade, and to also pay homage to all the people who’ve loved these songs over the years,” says Stone. He has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as the Special Olympics opening ceremony, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and has been a guest mentor on American Idol.

My friends and I loved it! Allen and his band gave the best performance. They were soulful, , exciting and hype. We got to talk to them after the show and they let us take photos together Beside being an amazing vocalist and a talented song writer - musician, Allen is very personable, modest, and a swetheart - love that guy!!!. Definitely recommend his concerts!!!

This man is music. His voice is flawless and his music is incredible, not to mention that he's an extremely nice and humble guy. I hope and know that he'll go far.

    speechless..

by goseethisguy on 7/27/12Bowery Ballroom - New York

The last time I was at Bowery Ballroom, I had the privelege of seeing the John Mater Trio. I walked away thinking that was the best show I've been to... But after Wednesday night, Allen Stone took over that spot. Bowery Ballroom is a great venue and top it off with an up and coming artist like Allen Stone. I can't say anything bad except for the really drunk girl that bulldozed her way trough the front. Anthony Hall opened and Elizabeth and the Catapult came on after, and they were both amazing as well. This show was amazing! If there's one artist you need to hear live before you die, its this guy... Allen Stone!

    Allen and Band deliver live

by FancurrentlyaFan on 7/27/12Bowery Ballroom - New York

Allen is a very talented performed. There is no studio trickery. He can actually sing and play like that, and he's put together a crack band. He loves his fans and audience, and likes to stay connected. You can feel the warmth. One small complaint: the sound was slightly muddy. It would have been great to hear some more treble in the mix; it could be that I was in the back, away from the directional speakers.

    Unbelievably amazing!!!!

by Kissypizza on 6/15/12The Club at Water Street Music Hall - Rochester

I thank goodness I accidentally discovered Allen Stone while watching Conan. Must have been fate! I never watch musical guests on Conan. I must have thought he was a comedian as I always watch comedians. I saw he was a musical guest instead and decided to give him a chance. Played it for literally five seconds and was impressed with the vocals so I decided to check the rest out later. I'm super glad I did, he very quickly became one of my favorite artists and I knew right away I had to see him live. Finding out he was doing a show so close to me was an absolute thrill. I got to the venue super early so I could ensure my spot at the very front and center of the stage. I found out I was going to be standing for two hours before any artist took the stage. I hadn't realized that the show started an hour after the doors opened. I was more focused on getting there early enough to get my spot than when the show actually started. I was super-tired and under-stimulated while I waited for the first act to take the stage as I went by myself. When ZZ Ward started her set, it became clear to me that my tired feeling had gone away once I had something to do. I got to hear ZZ rehearse two songs (Put the Gun Down and Last Love Song) before the show, so I knew that I was at least going to enjoy those. I couldn't believe how great every song was. I was very impressed with her. She was fab. I kept telling everyone for days after the show how great she was. Allen, too, of course, but the people I know knew that about him. Her band was really good, too--the guitarist, especially. He was great. I was sold on buying her album and was bummed to find no one had any of her merchandise after Allen's set. I was not expecting an opening artist to be so great. I'm a big fan of hers now. I had high hopes thanks to ZZ being so great that the next group, Sugar and the Hi-lows, might be good as well. I'd never heard their music before that night, either. They were so boring. The guitarist was good, but the vocals were nothing special (most notably-so with the girl since she's the Sugar in "Sugar and the...") and the songs weren't good either. I literally kept looking at their offensively-long setlist to see how far into their set they were and how much more of them I would have to endure. I'll assume the idea was, hype people up with ZZ and then let 'em down real hard with the next group so they'll really appreciate how great Allen is. It wasn't necessary, though, because Allen is always so amazing! Then my man Allen took the stage. He opened with Mama, a new song of his which I was very grateful that my friend had videotaped at the show she went to days prior to mine and shared with me as I was able to enjoy it instead of just experience it. Such a hot song. I couldn't believe I was inches away from my favorite singer. Inches away from the man whose albums and live performances I'd been listening to incessantly since I discovered him months prior. Literally, a few inches away. Whenever he was at the microphone, I could easily have touched him and I wouldn't have had to stretch my arm all the way out. I didn't, though! I'm no weirdo haha. I was delightfully uncomfortable whenever he bent down to get a swig of water. I loved how close he was. He covered one of his favorite artists Tingsek's Six Years, which was awesome, but I'd never heard it before, so I was just taking it in more than enjoying it. His rendition of Is This Love is one of my favorites and seeing him do it live is one of the best things I've ever experienced. It was beautiful. I read someone say about seeing him perform that song at a show that they went to that they wanted to relive seeing him perform that song in person every day for the rest of their life and I could not agree more. Sex And Candy was amazing. I obsessed about that song for a while when I first heard him cover it months prior to this show. I have every version of it that was put on youtube. Same for Is This Love, actually--I have every version of Is This Love from him on youtube. Seeing Sex And Candy in person was just wonderful. Before the last chorus, he actually said, "Sing it with me, I'm terrified!," which I found amusing, especially since I'd never heard him say he was terrified or scared or anything before while he performed. Contact High was great. He did an amazing vocal, as always. During the performance of Contact High at the bridge, he picked up the microphone from the stand and the cord fell out of the microphone (right after he said, "Now listen" haha) and I about lost my mind because I was being cheated of some Allen Stone vocal time. The crowd kicked in where the microphone cut off while Allen plugged in the cord and once he did, he sang the last two lines of the bridge. I was disappointed that I missed out on those first two lines in the bridge. I actually feared that something like that might happen because during Sugar and the Hi-lows performance--for absolutely no reason, the girl's microphone cut out during a song. She hadn't touched it and I was furious, thinking, "this had better not happen during Allen's performance." Technically, it didn't, but I have to wonder if the cord came out because they didn't attach it properly or maybe it's just a wonky cord. Also during Contact High, keyboardist Greg Erlich playfully threw his towel at Allen for holding a long note (I believe it was an impressive 10 seconds). I love that they're still impressed with his vocal ability even after touring with him for so long. Just goes to show that an incredible talent is not something you get over. The end vocal in Your Eyes was stunningly beautiful. I could not believe my ears. I'd never heard him sing that song like that before and haven't heard him do it again. Unaware and Satisfaction were phenomenal and thrilling to see live. He always meets his fans after his shows, which is one of the many things I love about him. I got to meet him and he is such a sweetheart. A genuine sweetheart. He is quite simply my favorite person. I'm just so glad that I found him on Conan. Such an amazing show. I really can't say enough. If he's coming anywhere near you, DO NOT MISS HIM!! I cannot wait to see him again. He's the best. I love Allen Stone!!

I had some contact time with Allen Stone

by biardm on 6/12/12The Basement - Columbus

He was amazing. He was extremely passionate with all of his songs. You can tell he is a performer that doesn't do it for the fame, he does it because he loves making music and sharing it with people. I have a feeling that he would be just as passionate if it was just his band rehearsing.

    What the world!!!!!!!!!

by EWOODS on 3/14/12Masquerade - Atlanta

The show started a hour and a half late. There was nowhere to sit. When it came time for allen stone to come on stage it was 10:40. We left at 10:55. I like the songs i heard from him but i was so disgusted with how unprofessional it was. The ceiling was moving as the crowd upstairs where jumping and lets just say i was ready to run for the door.

Allen Stone was an amazing act

    by benm19 on 3/13/12Masquerade - Atlanta

The masquerade was a great venue. Although I read some interesting reviews beforehand, it turned out to be an amazing place to see Allen Stone, who provided one of the best concerts I've ever seen. The intimacy of Hell set up the crowd to really get into the soul of the concert emotion. Didn't buy any drinks because they were a bit expensive for my tastes but the bar setting was lively. The workers there were a bit abrupt, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, it was a great experience! I'll be heading back to the masquerade again soon.

    Allen Stone is Mesmerizing!

    by Sriche1 on 3/12/12Masquerade - Atlanta

Allen Stone blew me away Friday night, not only with his exceptional stage presences but with his soulful buttery voice. There was this one moment when Allen had the crowd separate down the middle and he encouraged a "Nasty Ass Shakin' " dance off. Most wonderful and exciting moment of the night. Allen won my heart.

Allen Stone bringing down the house

by heatherleighglad on 3/12/12Masquerade - Atlanta

This show was beautiful and funky all at the same time. I knew Allen was amazing via Youtube, but it is always awesome to see such talent live. I am glad he chose the Masquerade for the venue. It was a perfect fit for his following and enough space for everyone to "get down". I can't wait for him to come back and blow my mind again!

Really great show, great guy and great band

    by KRae66 on 3/12/12Masquerade - Atlanta

The show was awesome. period. The guy can flat out just kill it on the vocals and the band they have put together really creates a great sound that anyone would love. The venue was perfect for the show they put on. It really created an intimate environment so that everyone could enjoy the music they were playing. I would highly recommend you go see this guy play sometime in the near future especially with his extensive tour that he is on right now all over the US and over seas. I normally don't even post on these things but it was that good that I made sure to take the time to write this out of respect for Allen and what they are doing. I can't wait to see them play again and respect the moccasins.

    Allen Stone @ Masquerade

by ElleToTheB on 3/12/12Masquerade - Atlanta

Allen Stone was just as stellar as I thought he would be. Not only is he freakishly talented, but he seems like a real stand-up guy. (The only reason I'm not giving this review 5 stars is because of the venue and lack of info on their site.) Allen is 6 stars.
