Wonderful - marvelous - everything I expected it to be!
Masterfully acted, but for me the men of Cantus stole the show. The musical performances were moving!
One of the best shows I have seen! The voices of the group Cantus are unparalleled! Thank you!
Wonderful. And so very nice that an usher was able to obtain an FM hearing device for me which made a huge difference in understanding any words sung or spoken.
We enjoyed "All is Calm" even more the second time. We had seen if a few years ago and felt it was time to revisit. The musical performances are excellent, the personal stories really bring out the message and the overall effect is very moving.
I brought my 12 year old son and 8 year daughter to this show. He loves history and she loves music. We all loved this show. Nice job, Theatre Latte Da!
Peter Rothstein's depiction of this historic phenomena is absolutely brilliant. Cantus is a world class ensemble and the simple narratives surrounded by song tell the tale in a touching and powerful way This is a story of hope and the power of humanity that brought us full into the spirit of Christmas and left not a dry eye We will return next year with my son and fiance This should go on tour, especially to London and Germany
What a wonderful way to spend an evening during the Christmas season! Cantus' voices were a wonderful blend to support the message and tell the story of such a meaningful event during WW I. The actors did a great job as well. We sat near the back of the balcony and could see and hear everything as if we were sitting near the front. I would love to keep this event as part of our Christmas celebration each year. It is very touching! We plan to take other members of our family to see it next Christmas.
The singers are excellent and the story is one of the greatest Christmas stories ever. However, we walked away expecting more. It was very short, and other than the above, not much more for the money. Obviously, extremely low budget and minimal preparation needed, it was overpriced for what it delivered. I think with the talented cast, the amazing story, and the beautiful Pantages setting, it could have been much better and more emotional considering the story and Christmas spirit.
I was expecting a play with music--that's not what it is, but it's so much more. Cantus sings beautifully and the readings were appropriate. It was almost like a choral mass. Our whole family loved it and we look forward to going again next year.
Great Performance...i would recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy a nice simple christmas performance.
Wonderful event. Especially appreciated the question and answer period after the play
The incredible voices of Cantus combined with letters, headlines, and diaries of soldiers in the trenches make Theater Latte Da's annual performance of "All is Calm" the ultimate Christmas experience. Christmas Eve 1914 in the trenches becomes a Christmas miracle when the troops create their own "Cease Fire." This production never fails to impress on all levels -- a must see!
Deeply touching, needed balm. I want to come back next year.
We go every year as our Christmas tradition. It is a real emotional experience -- I choke up early in the show and cannot help weeping through most of it. It is beautiful -- marvously staged, wonderful singing, I cry because of the beauty, and I cry because the story is so moving. My father served in the trenches in the first World War, so I have a personnel attachment to the story. But I think anyone would be deeply moved by the experience. I hope Latte Da and Cantus continue to do this every year.
I would definitely recomend this play. I had heard about it and this was the year to attend. The music was beautiful and the actors telling the story were great. I hope they'll continue the tradition.
This play could have been recorded on a CD and sold at the door. This wasn't a play it was a compilation of songs. The stage was 3 soap boxes and a high school choir platform. the stage never changed, the actors never changed, the scene never changed. What at disappointment.
Just 12 men with wonderful voices and a compelling story to tell. The starkness of the setting, with only snowflakes fluttering against the gray background, the spoken quotes from the men who were actually there--it was all executed beautifully. A story that would be unbelievable if it weren't true.
The voices couldn't have been better. It was amazing when they all sang together.
Cantus sounded amazing. We enjoyed the songs and the actors' telling of the story of that night. The downside was that the Pantages Theatre was very cold. I sat with my coat buttoned up around my neck. If this show had been any longer, I would have become even more umcomfortable. There are a lot of older people coming to this particular show. We are glad we did not buy tickets for our parents as they would have been even more uncomfortable. Turn up the heat!
