About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

  • WHAT BROADWAY NEEDS

by kuzco on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

in a not so great time for broadway musicals, this is exactly what broadway needs. fun, enchanting, magical, musical, funny, touching everything you want from a musical. the only problem was that in the show i've been both Aladdin and Ginie, were understudies.... 8 days after opening night, that was rather disappointing.

  • Aladdin exceeded our expectations

The show was brilliant! Once again, Disney provides beautiful entertainment for all ages. Set design, costumes, music - well thought out and well executed.

  • Aladdin is visually stunning and lots of fun!

by Espiritolindo on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

My 6 year-old daughter, 12 year-old niece, father, stepmom, and I all loved the show! The scenery and costumes are terrific, the new songs were good, and the actors were great. It was very family-friendly and we all had a wonderful time. My niece wanted to get autographs and photos after the show, and the actors were unbelievably kind and generous with their time.

  • Alladin was pretty good!!

by busysupermom on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Went to see Alladin with my 8 yr old and 11 year old. They both really loved it and were not bored for a second even tho they are both ADHD! The costumes and scenery were really amazing and worthy of Broadway and it was a real production!! (unlike the recent plays Ive seen on Broadway which have been well acted but nothing exciting where you feel like it was worth the money.) They changed certain particulars which were in the movie but I feel like they worked well for a show and creative innovative ways for the genie to appear and the cave of wonders etc. effects were great. The big complaint that I have is that they added so many new songs and didnt use enough of the old familiar ones. Some of them were really slow, boring and redundant and I feel like the show went on for a little too long. All in all, I would recommend but more for the kids.

  • "Aladdin" is a Disney hit!

by Turtle8 on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent adaption of the animated "Aladdin." Jonathan Freeman, who was the voice of Jafar in the movie, is Jafar in this stage version. My minor complaint is that Aladdin's monkey pal, Abu, has been replaced by human sidekicks. Jafar's parrot is also a human sidekick. I think the young children in the audience would have enjoyed seeing "puppets" as the animals in this production

  • Sparkling, funny, oriental!

by NKNY on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, very funny, wonderful costumes! Just the Musical's finale could have been much more mind-blowing - just like its start!

  • Ain't You Glad You Have A Friend On Broadway!

by Disneycat on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This play was exciting, entertaining, and captivating from beginning to end! All the players did an outstanding job! The Genie was high energy and captivating! I just wanted to go on stage and join the fun!

Just awesome! The colors and the costumes.....the special effects.....Aladdin has always been my favorite movie and the play did it justice!

  • A Whole New World !!!

by LadyTubs on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic! Awesume ! Fun ! Genie really stole the show. Fajar and sidekick Iago were great. The choreography was energetic and the costume changes was amazing. Wish we could see it again and again and again. I must also say that the New Amsterdam Theater was lovingly restored to its 1903 art-deco style, and it's well suited to have Alladdin's performances there.

  • Aladdin was amazing

Disney magic at it's best...high energy and so entertaining

  • Aladdin was funny and beautiful

by Candicescalice on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From the moment it started it was amazing, the costumes, sets, music and of course Genie. I took my 7year old daughter and she sat with a smile on the edge of her seat the entire time. I am so happy we went it was well worth it. It was a great interpretation of the story and it was portrayed in spectacular form.

It was a beautiful show. The cast, scenery, costumes and execution by the cast members was beautiful. Loved the magic carpet!

  • Aladdin was disappointing.

by GPathos on 3/29/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

I went into ALADDIN expecting to be blown away, but left a little disappointed. Vocally; the cast was great... The magic carpet ride wasfantastic. Unfortunately the dance routines were lacking. At times the choreagraphy was all over the place. If this was intentional, it did not appear so... The synchronization was way off. I thought by waiting for the previews to end it would have given the cast enough time to get through all the kinks, but this was not the case.

  • Aladdin was terrific

by bwaybroads on 3/29/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was fun right from the start. The costumes and sets were colorful and the actors were all first class. The fellow that plays Aladdin had a very good voice, Jasmine was quite beautiful and Jafar had that unforgettable voice. He's the same guy from the movie. But the one who plays Genie was amazing, his songs and antics were definitely Tony award worthy. My wife and children were talking about seeing it again on the way out of the theatre.

  • Theatre not so good

by Danieljohn on 3/29/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The show is great, but our seats were terrible. It's too high and seemed like we were going to fell down. No room for legs. And i am a short person. I was uncorfotable during the whole time. It's a shame because the show is really beautiful

  • Over the top

by Jeremy76 on 3/29/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

If your looking for a family night out and your not big on musicals then see this show Don't see it for the acting, but it's a fun experience just no depth It's family friendly and has beautiful costumes and scenery but lacks chemistry with the cast. I love Disney but it's to over the top

  • by Anonymous on 3/29/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing. Magic carpet ride scene was unbelievable. The genie was fantastic. Sitting was tight however
