Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

Aladdin lives up to the Disney name. It had the best songs, amazing special effects, unbelievable singing and dancing and great comedic moments. Everyone loved it!! We would see it again!!
From beginning to end, this was a magical family night out. The cast was phenomenal, the music uplifting and energizing. We all loved it!
In the past couple of years, I have seen Cinderella, Newsies, Mary Poppins, and now Aladdin on Broadway and Disney just knows how to put on a great show. It was disappointing that the leading man was replaced by his understudy but even the understudy was decent so it's all good.
Aladdin was a marvel of costume, scenery, and song and dance. The revived songs from the original score were wonderful. The actors and actresses were fantastic, playing many roles and changing costumes constantly. My only reservation is that the dialogue is a little mature for very young kids, my four year old granddaughter was not able to follow it, and was bored. My teenage nieces however thought it was brilliant. So I would not bring preschoolers to this show.
Excellent, Excellent Excellent no more needs to be said
Two of the major leads, Aladdin, and The Genie already had the understudies in for a Friday night performance. The show was only open a week or so and already substitutes are being used. The Genie was amazing, but Aladdin and Jasmine lacked chemistry and had some snafus during the performance The show was underwhelming and slow moving. New song additions weren't great and the show runs way too long for younger kids at over 2.5 hours.
Amazing! I have been to plenty of plays and Aladdin was one of my absolute favorites. I would see it again and recommend it to anyone!
I sat behind my daughters and nephews --- five children under the age of 10 and every one of them was on the edge of their seats the entire time! And the grown-ups had a total blast too.
On many levels, Aladdin pleased me and my family, taking its place with Newsies and Lion King among great Disney musicals on Broadway -- (Little Mermaid, not so much). Wonderful singing, dancing, production numbers to make your eyes pop out, some of the cleverest songwriting since Gilbert and Sullivan. Only complaint about Disney shows: they seem to think it's super-cute to put in little topical, timely asides and references to the present day, which take me and my family right out of the mood, breaking up the "world" of the play. I do wish they'd stop that. It was terrible in Lion King, and maybe not quite as bad in this show. I hope someone from Disney reads this and will realize they are creating a world on stage that is sufficient unto itself with its relationships and allusions; they do not need to cutely and smugly use the latest lingo or "hot topics" to improve their show. To the contrary!
I thought Aladdin was a terrific show. I would see it again. Very funny and wonderful costumes. Like how they brought the monkey into the show.
Aladdin was nothing short of AMAZING! The cast was SUPERBLY talented and were super friendly when I went back stage to see them. This production is here to stay! Disney...you've done it again!
A day to remember. Great laughs, great singing and great acting. Loved it
THANK YOU DISNEY AND THE GENIE FOR ONE OF THE BEST NIGHTS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED AT THE THEATER. THIS SHOW IS THE BEST BROADWAY MUSICAL I HAVE EVER SEEN. NO OTHER TIME IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER TOOK PART IN A 2 MIN STANDING OVATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOW AFTER THE FRIEND LIKE ME NUMBER. OVERALL THE BEST SHOW AND WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT... GO SEE IT !!!!!!
Typical of Disney, Aladdin is a magical event. With great music, Jaw dropping sets and stunning costumes that change With a blink of an eye. A must see for every Disney enthusiast !
The costumes were absolutely magnificent and the cast was marvelous. A wonderful show for adults and kids alike.
Lots of fun for the kids. The show felt very Disney'ish and lacked the typical Broadway musical experience.
I was glad it wasn't just like the Aladdin at WDW. This was a wonderful presentation. I brought a three year old along,, even though he was a little young he loved it!!!!
I had been waiting to see this show for months, and when the day finally arrived, I could hardly believe it. This 35 year-old was a kid again. Fabulously entertaining, with great music (even a song, "Proud Of Your Boy" that was supposed to be included in the movie), great sets and effects and beautiful costumes, this show brought the movie to life and then some! Though some elements of the movie were cut/changed (this isn't Lion King with any talking animals), the additional characters and songs lended more to the story in terms of the bonds of friendship. My friends and I were initially concerned because we did not see the original actors for Aladdin and the Genie, but the standbys did not disappoint one bit. I truly hope that this show stays on Broadway for a long time, because I will be returning to see it again...at least another 5 times!
I was very excited to see Aladdin, I purchased 9 tickets for a bachelorette party. However, I was little disappointed that on a Saturday night 2 of the main characters were understudies. While they did a good job, I believe missing the main stars (Aladdin & the genie) lowered my review score. I had read so much about James Monroe Iglehart and how he was the standout performer of the whole show and not having him as the genie was a let down. While I understand there are understudies for a reason, I did not expect that for prime time event, especially during the first month of the show for us to be missing the main stars. Overall it was a good show, loved the set, especially the magic carpet. One other critique is that they completely took out Abu. They should have incorporated him into the show as one of Aladdin's friends.
