About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

  • Disney hits another crowd pleasing homerun.

Though nothing may ever compare to The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast as live Disney musicals, this one is close if not equal. The sets and costumes have to be seen to believe. The movie score along with new compositions match perfectly and the choreography was very energetic. The performance by the lead as Aladdin was great along with all the supporting characters. The performance by the Genie, again, has to be seen to be believed. He actually takes Robin Williams character and makes the Genie his own. Though the show breaks the fourth wall and pokes fun at itself and other Disney classics, this makes it amusing for the adult audience. The character of Abu is not in this show and a few other changes make have a small effect of true fans of the original but the addition of a posse of Aladdin's friends along with Jasmine's friends make up for this.

  • Aladdin was Awesome!

by Rockermomx2 on 4/8/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I took my ten year old son to Aladdin as a birthday present. He LOVED the show. The music, singing and costumes were amazing. He especially loved the Genie and Jafar (who was played by the same actor who voiced the role in the movie). I recommend it highly.

  • Amazing!

This was one of the best broadway plays we've seen! Standing Ovation at the end. The cast was amazing!!! So enjoyable. Beautiful sets! It was Aladdin, but also had some differences and cute jokes that kept you engrossed! Bravo!

Aladdin was a great broadway production! Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the show! All the cast members were excellent, the costumes were amazing and songs and music and vocals so very well done! Of course, Genie steals the show! But with that much magic, who would think anything different! A must see for all ages!

  • Aladdin was a blast!!

by jessrabbit on 4/7/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Aladdin was my first experience at a Broadway show and it wont be my last! The show was incredible, "a Disney classic with a Broadway twist." The actor playing the genie was so amazing, from his jokes, to his dance numbers... just great!

Aladdin was amazing..as usual Disney has brought another classic to the stage beautifully! The genie steals the show! It was so good that I want to go see it again this summer!

  • Aladdin is Tony Bound

by JPPJ on 4/7/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Another Blockbuster Broadway show for Disney. Aladdin is just the ticket for the New Amsterdam Theatre. From beginning to end, the show follows the story we all love with additions and special touches which add to the enjoyment. All of the actors were well cast, the genie is phenominal, Aladdin and Jasmin a great couple, Iago a real hoot, and Jafar a true villian and straight from the movie. Costumes, choreography, set decoration, the music and score, acting, singing, all deserve some Tony accolades. Loved the whole show. Friend Like Me, Prince Ali, and Whole New World performed to perfection and a delight to watch live. We got to meet all the main cast at the stage door for autographs, a total blast saying HI to everyone.

Really fun show. The Genie played by James Monroe Iglehart is absolutely phenominal and steals every scene. Terrific seeing Jonathan Freeman who voiced Jaffar in the movie reprise his role. Wonderful to see and hear the beloved movie come to life on stage.

  • Aladdin on Broadway was AMAZING!

Unbelievable show all around. Both Aladdin and the Genie were stunning in their performances. The magic carpet ride during "A Whole New World" was one of the coolest things I've seen in my life. AMAZING!

  • Colorful, Lively Production of Disney's Classic!

by CarlaCAE on 4/7/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Disney's latest production to hit the Great White Way does not disappoint! While the plot lacks a bit of depth as it is based on a cartoon, it makes up for it in color, high production values, and a brilliant cast! The Genie is phenomenal and is truly larger than life. This was my 7 year old daughter's first Broadway show and she was mesmerized. She can't wait to come back to New York to continue to support Broadway! Thank you to the production staff, cast and crew for a job very well done!

  • Very Good Play.

by nvsmithnj on 4/7/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Overall, an awesome experience. Spot on with the original story of Aladdin. A lot of jokes which are very current so that may need to updated over time. The only negative would be the tight seating in the Balcony area, I am a big guy so if you want leg room DO NOT sit in the Balcony.

  • Magical just Magical

Oh, my goodness! This was an absolutely amazing show! From the actors/singers/dancers to the costumes to the sets to the awesome music, it was all so wonderful! This was one of our favorite shows of all - full of energy and life! I can't enough other than my 21-year-old daughter and her friends were the ones screaming and dancing in the 2nd row!
