About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

A Lackluster Broadway Magic Carpet Ride

by Matt on 2/28/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

During our recent trip to NYC, I, a self-professed Disney devotee, found myself lured into the glittering world of Broadway to witness Aladdin's magic. To my dismay, the enchantment fell short. As the curtains rose, I braced myself for a carpet ride of nostalgia and wonder, only to be met with a lackluster rendition that left me pining for the animated classic. Fate decided to cast us with the understudy for Jasmine, whose performance was akin to a wilted flower in a desert storm—lackluster, uninspired, and genuinely exhausting to endure. While there were fleeting moments of brilliance that momentarily illuminated the stage, they were like mirages in the vast expanse of mediocrity. The magic lamp may have shimmered, but its contents failed to grant the wish of a truly unforgettable theatrical experience.

The characters, the colors, the music and the joy!

by Dino on 2/26/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Delightfully amusing characters with vibrant production numbers by the crew. Costuming and colors of the sets were brilliant and use of the stage traps and elevators were surprising. The flying carpet scene was fascinating.

    Could be better

by Umberto on 2/26/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

The show is very beautiful! The interpreters are very good. But...I saw "Cats"in 1987, again in one of the Broadway theaters...I must say that it was much more exciting and engaging! It seems to me that the narration of Aladin is mainly dedicated to children and too simplified.

    amazing job

by febbreak on 2/24/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

While we have certainly seen the Disney movies (both animated and live), we still thought the grandkids would enjoy seeing it live on Broadway. We were not disappointed and everyone really enjoyed it. The special effects, choreography and production are first class. They really gave 110% to entertain. The big numbers (when the genie first appears and they sing "A friend like me) and the entrance of the "prince"into the city are stunning. Bravi!

by Peter on 2/21/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

It had all the Disney glitz, glam, and theatrics. The cast was amazingly talented and the musical numbers were wonderful, filled with amazing vocals and choreography. The show was the highlight of my vacation and loved every second of it. Just had a smile on my face the whole play.

    The BEST GENIE EVER

by Big D on 2/19/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

The Aladdin play on Broadway in New York is the best play that I have ever seen. The stage settings, the orchestra, the cast, but most of all was the Star, Caleb Barnett the Genie his performance, showmanship and him being the youngest lead actor in a Broadway musical play in history

    Great show for Valentines Day.

by Sunny on 2/19/24New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Great show altogether! The singing, dancing, colors and music were phenomenal. It felt so grand, big and up close because we were front row in the orchestra. I had to dodge spit flying out the actors mouths a few times. The only negative was that there isn’t much leg room in the front row. Genie and especially Iago stole the show!
