A wonderful production in a spectacular venue
by Janmk1978 on 4/16/12Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 5 out of 5I've always loved the Akron Civic Theater, having grown up in Akron and having attended productions at the Civic in all its stages of progress. It is a grand jewel of a theater, a work of art in itself.
It was, therefore, an inspired choice for staging the musical, "Titanic," on the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster. The Akron Symphony performed (beautifully), and their artistic directors and designers put together a moving and credible performance. They assembled accomplished actor/ singers from the amazing pool of talent in the greater Cleveland/ Akron area. Their casting choices were excellent .
The set was simple and functional, creating just the right amount of dramatic flow. The orchestra occupied the center of the stage, and one had the feeling that they were on board the ship, playing until the very end.
The whole production was emotionally and esthetically very satisfying. It was-- please forgive me-- A Night to Remember.
