About

Extreme alt-rock outfit AFI, short for A Fire Inside, continue to keep their punk rock spirit alive after more than two decades together. The four-piece California band, impressively composed of the same lineup since 1998, has revitalized hardcore punk ever since their 1991 beginning, though the crew didn’t see mainstream success until their 2003 platinum-selling “Sing the Sorrow.”

Since that time, AFI has satiated ticket holders at amped up concerts nationwide, either on their own headlining runs or as part of the Vans Warped Tour on several occasions.

After a four-year recording hiatus, AFI unveiled its ninth studio set, “Burials,” in October 2013. The collection, produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World), peaked at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. Some tracks on the Republic Records release (“17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” for example) lean more toward hard rock than horror punk or goth-punk, both labels AFI’s received with past work.

by Anonymous on 1/25/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are talented and have an amazing sound. They are energetic and suck the audience in with their love of music and performing. I have seen them before and they are even better than before!! I didnt want the night to end!!! I loved that there was no bad spot in the house; you had a great view of the stage and everyone on it!! I look forward to seeing them again and tell everyone the Show Box SoDo is the best place for a live concert!!!!

  • Oh..... My.... Fire inside.....

    by Squishy1234 on 1/25/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Wow... this was just incredible. The mix of different album's music was great so that it wasn't all about Crash Love. Opening band was terrible, but AFI was great. The fact that they played in such a small venue made it even better. If they ever consider coming back to Seattle, I'll be there.

Amazing performance, great set, davey's voice was perfect. It was cool that they only had one opener I just wish it had been someone good.

  • AFI is money!

by AceSpar on 1/25/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Great atmosphere minus a few punks for the opening band and the people that decided to fight in the middle of a song. Over all it was again a great concert, the venue was small so it could either way depending on the crowed. Would definitely see them again.

  • AFI - short and out

by Anonymous on 1/24/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

Good energy level to start the show, but sort of lost momentum in the middle of what was a very short show. Lead guitarist sounded great. The shortness of the show made it only an average show.

  • AFI is Amazing live!!!

by Skatty on 1/24/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The best show that I've ever been to, hands down (I've seen Slipknot, Slayer, Modest Mouse, Lamb of God, The Killers, Primus and many, many more)! Great sound and high energy! I'd see them again in a heart beat if the ever come back to Seattle. The venue is unbeatable as well. Not a bad spot in the house.

by KellynA on 1/24/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It was a SOLD OUT show! The band Ceremony had the opening act. It had been too long, A.F.I. finally made their return to Seattle and performed at the Showbox SoDo on Friday January 22nd, 2010. A.F.I. were amazing, it was an unforgettable show! It was everything and more.

  • AFI was amazing!

by Klaimjumper on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Well I definitely would not consider myself the biggest AFI fan in the world, but after last night's show I can understand the loyalty of their fanbase and how they've survived changes through their career. They were very tight and the sound was flawless, it was a very well put together show. Good job guys, see ya next time.

  • AMAZING, the band was SO nice

by Rebeccaaaaaaa on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the band Thursday in Spokane and Friday in Seattle. The shows were awesome, lots of new stuff, lots of Sing the Sorrow, a smidge of Black Sails, no Art of Drowning, one SUPER old one, one B side. I stayed really, really late after the show and got to meet the band. They were really, really nice and gave me hugs because I was freezing. Hunter wanted to leave to go watch the last episode of Conan but promised to come back and talk to everyone who was left, he was true to his word and stayed to meet everyone. They were all very gracious and appreciative.

  • A.F.I. - One Of the Best Ceremony - The Worst

by DJDoughboy on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

A.F.I. once again put on one of the best rocks shows I've seen, and that's quit a few. It was especially great because I was there with my fiance and her little sister, who nither had seen A.F.I., but for her sister it was her very first rock concert. And I was really stoked that she got to see A.F.I. for her first concert. Davey is on of the best front men in the business hands down. You would be hard pressed to find a better rock show. They Rock, just about sums it up. DON"T MISS THEM. Ceremony - the opening band, bar none was the WORST band I've ever seen as an opener. Under the music catergory that A.F.I. used to be under - "Hardcore" is what they pertend to be. Their Drummer was good and on point, the bassist and guitar players were decent, but the singer was HORRIBLE. There's a difference between Hardcore screaming, and just shouting unintelligibly, and having every shout sound EXACTLY the same (sounded a little like a drunk angry Cartman). Trying about every microphone trick in the book and climbing the rafters couldn't take away from how Terrible his vocals were. I like All forms of music and do not consider myself a tough critic at all - I was embarrassed for them and on the cusp of Booing which I have NEVER done. WOW - They were BAD.

The showbox was a great venue, especially for prefunking in the bar. AFI was amazing live, the crowd was crazy, it was pretty much amazing.

  • Wow....

by Vixxxen on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The always incredible AFI outdid themselves at last night's Seattle show. An amazing performance accompanied by the alluring and exhilarating stage presence of Davey, Adam, Hunter and Jade provided what was surely one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. The one thing that could have rained on the parade of performance perfection would have been the crowd, as so often happens to otherwise great shows. I have attended literally hundreds of concerts, and, I must say, I have never seen such beautiful devotion to a band. The fans obviously love AFI, (myself included), and it showed as they cheered, chanted and sang their hearts out for the entire duration of the set. Well done Seattle! Even the mosh pit kept a perfect rhythm with the music and didn't get carried away with over the top brutality. Was there a down side? Certainly.....we could have easily moshed, danced, rocked, etc. for another hour at least. But always leave them wanting more, eh Gentlemen? Visit us again soon AFI, Seattle loves you!.

Great Show! Amazing mix of songs past and present!

  • AFI was as cool as I expected!!!!!

by LovetheRock on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I've been an AFI fan since 1998 and I missed the band at Seattle's 2003 Deck the Hall Ball but I wasn't about to miss them this time. Their performance, visually, on stage and in music videos is as outstanding as their musical and vocal talent, and song writing. The way Davey, Hunter and Jade move about the stage and play the guitars make up for any absence in elaborate stage setting and pyrotechnics. The venue and the interaction between the band and a passionate audience of AFI fans made it quite fun as well. The venue was large enough to provide a nice size crowd for the band but it still had an intimate feel as well, a nice balance of sound and lighting effect. I'm lonly 65 inches tall but I was still able to view the performance in the general admission area (I didn't sit in the bar area). It was fun when Davey spoke to the audience as well. The evening flew by and the end of the show came surprisingly quick, but that was because I was so captured in the performance. Time just flew by. They actually played a long list of songs and they were quite energetic throughout. They had to be tired at the end, and I thank the band members for that enthusiasm and dedication to what they love, AFI. I had a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, and I'll see you (AFI) again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The great AFI

by Jilt on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say the show was awesome. It was the 5th time I've seen them and it was def one of the best, if not the best. It amazes me that Davey's hair stayed perfect through the whole show. Jade was epic as usual didn't miss a note. The crowd was a little rowdy but that's what you would expect for such a big audience in a packed venue listening to fast paced rock.

  • I saw the best AND the worst all in one night.

by Andisaurus on 1/23/10Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

AFI's opening band was horrid - They made me want to throw up. Ceremony is the worst band I've ever heard and seen live! AFI, however, was pure awesome. They made the night absolutely unforgettable!
