Extreme alt-rock outfit AFI, short for A Fire Inside, continue to keep their punk rock spirit alive after more than two decades together. The four-piece California band, impressively composed of the same lineup since 1998, has revitalized hardcore punk ever since their 1991 beginning, though the crew didn’t see mainstream success until their 2003 platinum-selling “Sing the Sorrow.”
Since that time, AFI has satiated ticket holders at amped up concerts nationwide, either on their own headlining runs or as part of the Vans Warped Tour on several occasions.
After a four-year recording hiatus, AFI unveiled its ninth studio set, “Burials,” in October 2013. The collection, produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World), peaked at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. Some tracks on the Republic Records release (“17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” for example) lean more toward hard rock than horror punk or goth-punk, both labels AFI’s received with past work.

amazinggg :) despite the lack of old songs, i still really enjoyed this band
A.F.I. did not fail to impress. They had great stage presence and the crowd was amazing. The venue also made the whole show a million times better. If you have a chance, go see them!!!
Loved the show but they could have played more older material.
Aside for the 2 pretty significant fights that happened, all the teeny-bopper girls, and not playing enough of their old songs, it was an incredible show!!! I will totally see them again the next time they come to town.
Very much enjoyed the AFI concert. Was not at all impressed with the opening band...thought they played way too long and it was apparent the rest of the audience was not at all impressed. Would have liked AFI to play longer as they were done at 10:30! Much too early for a Friday night.
AFI was awesome live. Lots of energy and they sounded great.
High energy, perfectly in sync and tune. I thought I no longer was that into AFI, kinda regretted buying the tix. After the first song I couldn't believe how good they were. So much energy, they had the crowd really going. Couldn't believe how well the singer was hitting the varied notes and scream/growls. I thought it had to be lip synced but it wasn't it was just that damn good. The whole band was 100% on.
Great show! AFI gave a great performance and sound awesome live! We brought my six year old who is a huge AFI fan and it wasn't too loud (with earplugs).
The show was fabulous once again. The energy that they have and share with the fans is amazing. My boyfriend went along with me and he REALLY enjoyed himself and liked the music too.
A Fire Inside burned down the house! The rest of the bands were boring but A.F.I. redeemed the night and then some! I would pay anything just to see them again and maybe get an encore next time!
AFI put on a great show. I would definitely see again and recommend it to my friends.
Missed the first band. The second band wasn't bad, great variaty, however the lyrics were drowned out by the instruments. Red Jump Suite was pretty good also, good variety. You only hear a couple songs on the radio (at least the ones I listen to) so it was nice to hear something different. AFI rocked, great show and the music was great. The one draw back is that you (or at least I) could tell that for the high piched vocals they used technology. Technology doesn't bother me if it is the sound (melody & harmony), but not a big fan of technology to enhance vocal capability. Still the sound and show was great.
Bands were awesome, but no encore? what kind of concert doesn't have an encore?
I like the band, but all the lights and, energy didn't make up for the bad sound system. Maybe it was just that night, but they sound better on the radio.
The show started out with I Fight Dragons, who I had never heard or seen before. They were cute and their music was a really interesting idea, but I don't think they really captured the audiences attention. But for being pretty new and opening for something like that, they were good and I know will get better as time goes on. Next up was Say Anything. I was beyond disappointed with them. I usually like their songs on the radio, but live they seemed unorganized and like they weren't actually even playing a tune. Also, the singer I think was trying to be artsy and change up the beats of the words but it wound up just sounding like he forgot the song or was running out of breath. And can I just say that 4 guitars in 1 band is unnecessary. Put one of them away and find another instrument to play, please. I was not impressed with Say Anything and would not see them live again. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus was also a little disappointing. The singer could not hit the notes that he does in the recordings so he wound up changing most of them to be lower and more mellow so it didn't have the same effect. My opinion is if you can't sing something live, then don't write it. You want to be able to recreate the experience of your music to your fans. His screaming was pretty phenomenal though and he switched from singing to screaming and back very well. They were better than Say Anything, but by the end of their set I was just ready to see AFI. AFI was last and a completely different story than the rest of the bands. They were indescribable. Their energy poured out into the large venue and their sound was just as good if not better than the records. They had a wide variety from all of their CD's, not just Crash Love so old and new fans felt included and could get excited about songs that they were just hearing for the first time or may not have heard in a long time. AFI's set was also the first show that I've seen where the entire audience had their hands up clapping to the beat of more than one song without a single member of the band on stage starting it or telling them to. The audience was so effected by their music that they just wanted to give back in whatever way they could without even thinking about it. To me, that was a truly magical thing to experience. I would go to another AFI show in a heartbeat and will definitely be seeing them again when they come back to Denver.
I'm a long-time AFI fan and they're the biggest reason I justified spending $50 per ticket to see this event, however I don't feel like I got my money's worth at all. I came for AFI, but their set was less than an hour and they didn't even play an encore. Lame. I wasn't expecting much from the opening acts, and they didn't really give me much to be excited about. The show was also in a hockey arena instead of a concert venue. The acoustics in the arena aren't friendly to bands - they just distort the music and make everything sound like inaudible roaring. That's great for a hockey game, but terrible for a concert. AFI's songs sounded decent, thanks to their high-powered audio equipment, but they would have been much much better in a concert hall. I enjoyed the familiar hits and rocked out to nearly every song - I just wished they would have played longer. In the end, I still would have paid to see this show (because I really like AFI), but I think $25 or less would have been a more appropriate price for what I saw.
AFI headlined this radio holiday concert. They were the best part, but Red Jumpsuit Apparatus was also really good. We were extremely disappointed, however, that AFI only played for less than an hour. We paid a lot of money for the tickets and had waited three years for AFI to come to town. They should have been allowed to play a longer set. I would give 5+++ stars if they had been able to play all the songs we wanted to hear.
Say Anything and AFI were AMAZING.... however, Red Jumpsuit Aparatus is my FAVORITE band and has mine and my fiances song but they were awful! They were off beat on most of their songs.... skipped a ton of words in the songs... basically we all thought the lead singer was Drunk! I was very disappointed by this performance as they are SO talented! Its a shame they didnt seem to care enough to give it their best that night. Overall it was a great night and we will probably go again next year.
Great show! Wished they had played an encore, though...
...we didnt like any of the opening acts. They werent even Punk. Othere issues with the concert: AFI didnt play nearly long enough; didnt play anything old either the beer stands closed at 9 seated tickets were not allowed on the floor the stadium wasnt even close to full, it should have been at the Fillmore. The energy that is usually present at punk shows was just not there.
