Extreme alt-rock outfit AFI, short for A Fire Inside, continue to keep their punk rock spirit alive after more than two decades together. The four-piece California band, impressively composed of the same lineup since 1998, has revitalized hardcore punk ever since their 1991 beginning, though the crew didn’t see mainstream success until their 2003 platinum-selling “Sing the Sorrow.”
Since that time, AFI has satiated ticket holders at amped up concerts nationwide, either on their own headlining runs or as part of the Vans Warped Tour on several occasions.
After a four-year recording hiatus, AFI unveiled its ninth studio set, “Burials,” in October 2013. The collection, produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World), peaked at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. Some tracks on the Republic Records release (“17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” for example) lean more toward hard rock than horror punk or goth-punk, both labels AFI’s received with past work.

It was a fantastic mix of old and new. Energy was great and bottom line they gave us a fantastic show. Thanks for coming back to Pittsburgh!
I have seen AFI 4 times in the last 10 years and I must say their energy never ceases to amaze me. All the members have great presence and they play their hearts out. It was great to see them after about 3 years and hear some new (and old) music. THe sound was loud and gritty and the performance was fantastic. This is a band that I will definitely continue to follow in the years to come.
Great show from begging to end. Since it started until it ended. The energy was amazing.
I'm almost 30, and Afi is still one of my favorite bands of ALL time. This was actually my 10th time seeing them live. As much as I love them, and they are amazing performers-this venue kinda sucked. I had mezz seating, so that could have been the problem? I've never had a complaint after seeing an Afi show, but something funky was goin on here. Could barely hear Davey sing?
We were seated up in the Mezzanine, 2nd to last row from the top. But the view was good, and the band was so fun to watch perform. Sometimes I couldn't understand what they were singing due to acoustics, I assume. But overall I love AFI's catalog, and they're an energetic live band to go see
Awesome!! Best night ever! AFI was amazing and I hope they come back to the Wiltern in the future because it was a great venue!
The guys were full of energy and were engaging with the fans. This is my third time seeing them, and I swear each time I see them, they get better! I can't say many bands sound as good as they do on their album, if not better, but these guys are brilliant!
The concert was so good that if they come to town again, I'll go to AFI concert again.
Best show I have seen in a long time!!! Hope they come back to Atlanta soon.
Cartharsis. Moxie. Incantation. Communion. Euphoria.
These guys put on an electrifying show. The amount of energy poured out by both the band and the fans is incredible. You will never attend any other shows like an AFI show. As for the openers- Souvenirs were likeable, but seem a little bit undeveloped. The guys in Nothing all looked like they were on drugs. There might as well have not been any vocals because you couldn't hear them. Every song sounded the same. Couldn't wait for them to be over.
This was my third time seeing AFI, and as always they put on a perfect performance. Their energy feeds into the crowd and stays from the first song through the last. The Atlanta setlist was incredible, and I was able to hear one of my absolute favorites that just made the night complete. I look forward to seeing them again, hopefully in the near future.
My 3rd time seeing them. Great band. Great show. Great energy.
I love this band so much! Seeing them in a smaller venue like The Paradise was such a great experience. I wish they were in the New England area more often.
This venue is absolutely beautiful! What a radio place to see one of my favorite bands!
This was one of the best shows I have been to. I have been listening to AFI for well over a decade but never got to see them live. I really hope I get to see them live again. They played a few songs from there new album and the rest were singles off almost every other album. They played for a little over an hour which is usual. I have a playlist that goes four hours of just their music so it could have been longer but no one really performs more than an hour so no complaint. If you like AFI then certainly see them live
Great show. Played old and new. Not old old but art of drowning.
This was the first time I had the chance of seeing one of my all time favorite bands and I was thoroughly disappointed. They didn't seem interested in being there at all and they FLEW through their setlist like they had better things to do. Fair, everyone's job sucks sometimes, but there were tons of people that gathered just to see YOU. Crushed. The Fox is a great venue and the floor plan ain't bad--that's why I really enjoy coming here. That and the floor-stationed bars. Overall, this review is for THIS show and I'm hoping it is not a reflection on how the band always is.
It warmed my heart to see AFI on stage again. This was probably the best venue that I have seen them at, the Fox is both comfortable and provides great acoustics. AFI continues to sound amazing while providing a very energetic stage presence. They played a good range of songs but nearly nothing from their first four albums, especially the first two which are my personal favorites. Once a punk, always a punk. There were a lot of hardcore fans there, which was cool. But there was some inconsideration for other's well being in the lowest floor area. I am a mosher and don't mind physical contact but some guy from one level up jumped off the railing with no warning and landed on the back of a few people next to me, knocking a few to the floor. Just a warning.
