About

ABC IN CONCERT:

British new wave sensation ABC rose to fame in the early '80s thanks to their sophisticated pop sound and the splashy, stylish showmanship of lead singer Martin Fry. Three decades later Fry is as dapper and confident as ever at the band's live shows, crooning classic ABC hits like "The Look of Love" and "All My Heart" as if not a day had passed. From his charming accent and tailored suits to his perfectly preserved pipes, Fry remains a consummate performer, exuding the energy and charisma of a performer at the top of his game. Whether he's shooting that "Poison Arrow" straight to fans' hearts or warning that "Vanity Kills", Fry's passionate voice and upbeat stage presence always gets ticket buyers singing and dancing along on ABC's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

ABC formed in Sheffield, UK in the late '70s with Fry initially acting as the band's synth player. By 1980 he had become lead singer, and in 1981 ABC scored their first hit with the UK Top 20 single "Tears Are Not Enough". Their rise continued in 1982 with their debut album The Lexicon of Love, which topped the UK Albums Chart and scored a No. 1 dance hit in the US with "The Look of Love". Their chart success waned in the mid-'80s, but by 1987 ABC was back on top with their fourth album Alphabet City, which spawned the US dance chart No. 1 "When Smokey Sings". Though the band's lineup has evolved over the years, Fry has remained a constant, releasing albums and touring throughout the '90s and '00s. In 2008 he released ABC's eighth album Traffic, a stellar slice of '80s-inspired pop that critics hailed as a return to form. Since then he's continued to treat fans around the world to his signature debonair performances.

  • Great Show

by BobandDave on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

These bands were fantastic! In their time they were everywhere. And that night they were there just for us. The best part was the vocal talent that these unique voices have. I've been singing those songs ever since. Not to mention our seats were great! Cannot say enough about Berlin so I won't even try. Amazing!!!!!.

  • Berlin rocked!!!

    by DukeG442 on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 4 out of 5

So I never saw any of these bands and I liked their hits, why not go see them. Cutting Crew was quite good for an opening act. I didn't know most of their songs but they were entertaining. It would have been nice if someone introduced them. Wang Chung was pretty much what I expected. They sounded good but weren't much as showmen. I won't make an effort to see them again. Berlin was third up and I knew the least about that band. What a surprise! They were amazing. It was one of the best shows I had seen in a long time. The lead singer has an amazing voice that I just don't hear in the cds from the band. She can sing like few others can! Berlin's act alone was enough to keep me very happy with the show and I would go see them again in a second. The lead singer stole the entire concert. After her show, there was no way the headliner could top it, and ABC didn't. They had no chance, really. ABC made some of my favorite songs in the 80s but they just weren't so entertaining live. Being in the line-up after Berlin was just the kiss of death for them. People were leaving in droves. The man still has a good voice and I liked the costumes but it was a totally different style of music. I felt like I was watching a lounge act (a very good one) after watching an incredible concert. You can't have a bunch of mediocre entertainers playing together with a REAL entertainer like Terri Nunn from Berlin. The line up didn't work. Berlin rocked and now I'm a fan where I hardly knew anything from them at all. The show as a whole is worth seeing if you like the hit songs by these bands. Berlin will always be worth seeing.

  • Awesome 80's

by PaganKatz on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

This amazing show was the most fun I have had at a show for quite some time! Highly recommended for 80's babies and New Wave affecionados alike. Terri Nunn of Berlin was absoluely riveting and easily as much of an Icon as any other Diva working today! I wish there was an All-Day Festival especially for this particular genre of retro-evolution. I sincerely hope this concept catches fire as this was an evening I would have died for in the Eighties, and am reeling from even now.......

  • OH SO FUN

    by JPB25 on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 4 out of 5

Let me tell you - it was a GREAT NIGHT. Opening Act Cutting Crew started the show off....they were great....followed by Wang Chung...they were FANTASTIC....just when I didn't think it could get any better Terri Nunn and Berlin took the stage - "I bow to her!" It was her birthday...her pipes were flawless...she even sang a great cover of "Want somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane! We should have left then....ABC was the "headliner"...and don't get me wrong - I liked ABC back in the day....but they were TERRIBLY BORING....yawn. So overall the Regeneration Tour was an A-.......would have been an A+ if it wasn't for ABC!

  • Wang Chung was great.

    by JTS5 on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 4 out of 5

I think this concert would of been a lot better if they had Heaven 17 on this tour. I was very disappointed to hear that they canceled out. Of course there were mentions of Missing Persons and Tommy Tutone filling in for Heaven 17 spot. But neither of these bands played here in Chicago with ABC, Berlin & Wang Chung. Overall, I thought this was a great concert lineup. Was impress with Wang Chung. Glad to have seen Cutting Crew perform live. I've seen Berlin before at the House Of Blues in the past and they really rock the house down at this show by having the audience to dance on stage, remembering the death of Michael Jackson, and the celebration of Terri Nunn birthday. ABC also did a impressive show. This is my second time seeing them and they played all of my personal favorite songs.

  • A brilliant night for (shooting) stars of the 80's

by Softail on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

A most excellent night for "dying in the arms" of Cutting Crew, "having fun tonight" with Wang Chung, "taking my breath away" by Berlin to having "the look of love" by ABC. It wasn't just a night for a walk down memory lane, it was a FUN night for a walking down memory lane!

  • Timing and line up issues

by MisterrPisces on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - RosemontRating: 3 out of 5

No one wanted to hear that first band with "Die in your arms tonight song" Lots of bands would have fit well into this line up. I understand they trouble filling the arena, picked a bad weekend with Taste of Chicago.

  • Glad to be there!

  • Regeneration Tour -- a trip back in time

by Ebeth85 on 7/16/09Resorts Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

We went with another couple and had a great time. Cutting Crew was really good, and opened up the show nicely. Then, after a 20 min. wait, Wang Chung came out on stage. We could have done without them. Their set was the weakest. Next, BERLIN. That was the highlight of the evening. Terri Nunn looked and sounded great. She was interacted with the audience and gave the best performance by far of the evening. The show ended with ABC. I was so looking forward to their set, but have to say, it wasn't as good as I had hoped. By the time they took to the stage, it was after 10:30 and I was losing interest and all their songs sounded alike. (def. they are a better studio band) Perhaps, the 1st 2 bands should have had shorter sets. Then, the show wouldn't have gone on so late. Then, when setting up the stage for Berlin, it took FOREVER. But, we still had a Great time and if you're a fan of the 80's, it was a great mix of big hits.

I am a huge fan of the 80's and this was a great night. I was disaapointed in the turn out but they played tight and were awesome. Cutting Crew, Wang Chung, and Tommy Tutone, I hope you have a great time on the road!

  • Good overall concert

by roscoe on 7/15/09Resorts Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Cutting crew was first. They played all of theri hits and did a good job. Wang Chung was next and they also did a good job, everybody wanted to hear everybody have fun tonight which was last. Berlin played all their hitas and had the best on stage presence. ABC was last and spent the most time on the stage. They played all of their hiots and was good too. In between the acts, it took too long.

  • Great 80's bands.

Well worth the money. They sounded just as good live as their albums that were played on the air!

  • Fun night

by monkeyboo on 7/14/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 4 out of 5

This was a fun evening. I can only guess that it wasn't well attended because people didn't know about it. That - and maybe it was a Thursday night and not a weekend...

  • 2009 Regeneration Tour

by IAmDaves on 7/14/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 4 out of 5

Berlin with Terri Nunn was awesome. That was the best part of the whole concert. Missing Persons held up to their name. They were missing! That was a bummer. Saw ABC last year at the 2008 Regen Tour. They are really good too!

  • Terri Nunn - Berlin Was AWESOME!

by ValG on 7/14/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 3 out of 5

The only highlight of the show was Terri Nunn and Berlin. Actually Berlin should have been the closer of the evening...they were awesome.

Great show except for Missing Persons. Cutting Crew was much better than expected. ABC and Wang Chung were fabulous.
