ABC IN CONCERT:

British new wave sensation ABC rose to fame in the early '80s thanks to their sophisticated pop sound and the splashy, stylish showmanship of lead singer Martin Fry. Three decades later Fry is as dapper and confident as ever at the band's live shows, crooning classic ABC hits like "The Look of Love" and "All My Heart" as if not a day had passed. From his charming accent and tailored suits to his perfectly preserved pipes, Fry remains a consummate performer, exuding the energy and charisma of a performer at the top of his game. Whether he's shooting that "Poison Arrow" straight to fans' hearts or warning that "Vanity Kills", Fry's passionate voice and upbeat stage presence always gets ticket buyers singing and dancing along on ABC's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

ABC formed in Sheffield, UK in the late '70s with Fry initially acting as the band's synth player. By 1980 he had become lead singer, and in 1981 ABC scored their first hit with the UK Top 20 single "Tears Are Not Enough". Their rise continued in 1982 with their debut album The Lexicon of Love, which topped the UK Albums Chart and scored a No. 1 dance hit in the US with "The Look of Love". Their chart success waned in the mid-'80s, but by 1987 ABC was back on top with their fourth album Alphabet City, which spawned the US dance chart No. 1 "When Smokey Sings". Though the band's lineup has evolved over the years, Fry has remained a constant, releasing albums and touring throughout the '90s and '00s. In 2008 he released ABC's eighth album Traffic, a stellar slice of '80s-inspired pop that critics hailed as a return to form. Since then he's continued to treat fans around the world to his signature debonair performances.

Martin Fry is a fabulous performer. Every song was memorable. The set was great, I can't say enough good things. Hope he returns to the LA area again

    ABC is great

by KimNikkig on 10/7/14The Canyon - Agoura Hills

My hubby and I often sing old ABC songs around the house. I bought these tickets not really sure if it was going to be a good venue or if ABC still "has it". Well, ABC still is great and the sound quality and music were great. They also had a wonderful opening cover band that was top notch (not cheesy cover songs, but high quality tight band and great singer). I give 4 stars because the food was not great. We ordered the salmon and it was Yuck-y!

    ABC was AWESOME!!!

by TatGirl on 6/18/13The Canyon - Agoura Hills

A MUST for all 80's fans! ABC rocked this venue. Saw them the night after in the next city too. Wish they would've come to Phoenix again.... but this was the next best option! Opening bands were impressive as well. Great sound. Great enthusiasm. Great crowd.... Fantastic band!

    ABC still rocks!

by SpaceGuppy1 on 6/17/13The Canyon - Agoura Hills

Although Martin Frye looks similar to George Bush Sr., his voice is amazing! I love the fact that he knows people come to listen to what made ABC popular and not try to sing all new songs. He did have a couple that were newer but overall, an excellent mix of decades of work. The venue to small enough to be close to the stage but had to stand for the entire concert. Surprised to see grandparents in there rocking it but also twenty somethings enjoying it too. Bottom line is ABC still brings a crowd and sound so good.

    Rocking the 80's in AC

by MFgoestoshows on 8/2/09Resorts Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Cutting Crew opened the show and played a handful of songs leading into “Died in your Arms” which was a pretty epic sing along. Wang Chung was up next and made the mistake of saying one of their songs was new. No one would have known the difference. Anywho, Wang Chung was pretty good too and everybody had fun (tonight). Then came Berlin. I didn’t know what to expect from any of the bands at Regen2009 but Berlin was more of a wildcard as they were only doing select dates. All that needs to be said is Terri Nunn is awesome and I’m really glad our date was one that Berlin played. I’d see Berlin again given the opportunity. ABC had the unenviable task of following Berlin. They sounded good, but couldn’t match the energy or personality.

    Great show

    by forever80sgirl on 7/22/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The show was great! Its not often that you will have 4 artists willing to share time to put on a show. Each artist sang for about an hour-including all of their greatest hits. The only problem was that the seats were a little pricy so half of the theater was empty. Other than that it was a great show!

    a great '80s experience!

by marksax on 7/21/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

ABC, Berlin and Wang Chung were in exceptional voice and form! Terri Nunn is still hot, Martin Fry and the boys from Wang Chung sing just like they did on their albums. All the hits were sung and the energy from everyone on stage was amazing!

    So So Show

by Jamina on 7/21/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The show had a very slow start and way too quiet. Berlin was the best part of the show with the most energy. Leave it to Terri to push the envelope and get everyone's energy to skyrocket through the roof. Leave it to the woman to highlight and max out the energy of the audience!

    Regeneration Tour Wild

by SamsMom1 on 7/19/09Resorts Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Heard about the tour on the radio and I knew I had to go. Great bands from my high school days. Concert was out of this world. The icing on the cake was when Berlin invited the crowd up on stage that was awesome. Do it again next year guys. I'll come back.

    Berlin rocked it out!

by Goheidigo on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

So the 4 bands(in order) were Cutting Crew , Wang Chung, Berlin and then ABC. The house was pretty empty and clearly not much promoting had happened and I found that sad since I know many people who would've jumped to come HAD they known about it. So shame on the promoters! Each group did about 4-5 songs. Cutting Crew was a wonderful surprise, starting the show with excellent vocals and humorous audience interaction. Saw Wang Chung many years ago and they were still kickin' it. Did my fave, To Live and Die in LA! Then Berlin came on and really blew everyone away. Terri Nunn is so youthful, energetic and contemporary. She found her way into the audience, dancing and giving high-fives. Terri also took a moment to remember Michael Jackson and that was class. I was wondering how ABC was going to top them, especially since they were the main reason I bought the tickets. Much to my dismay, Martin Fry and company were the biggest disappointment and to boot- supposedly the headliners. Boring, not much audience connection and stale. Martin sounded great and of course the music is great, but touring is not a young man's game and he needed to take his cue from Terri Nunn who is close to his age bracket. Just couldn't get his energy up. His impeccable tailor styled outfits were replaced by ill-fitting cheap costumes. Well, I'll always have my cd's if I ever want an ABC fix. Seriously though, check out the new Berlin cd-- they are so back!

    the entire show was great

by panthera on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

over all I loved Berlin, she was great. I loved the way she left the stadium to go to the people, she said hi to me and I could touch her. No other artist has done that, also when she invited some people from the audience to dance with her in the stadium, it was awsome. I loved the song she dedicated to Michael, she was the only one that mentioned him. Berlin was the best specially because it was her birthday and she mentioned that to the public. Wang Chung was good too, the sand many songs I liked but nothing like Berling.:)

    ABC*Berlin*Wang Chung*Cutting Crew-Good, Better..

    by Sandy222 on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Good show overall. There were definitely better parts than others, starting with: Good - Cutting Crew, great set, lots of mugging for an imaginary camera's by the lead singer, but otherwise good set. He seemed to have a good attitude about the show and his parting comment of "see you in another 20 years", gave us a good chuckle. Better -Wang Chung, was NOT a fan back in the 80's, but this show changed my opinion. After the first song, I started to warm up completely to them. The lead singer was engaging and sang great, definitely prerecorded background track accompanying. It was a little hard to get past the fact that he looked a little like Terrance Stamp ( a'la Pricilla's Queen of the Desert role), husband thought I was crazy when I made the connection, but then realized it was pretty accurate. Overall, good performance from them, real crowd pleaser. Best - Berlin was awesome. Terri Nunn looks great and I was quite surprised how awesome she sounded. She was generous to the crowd with her actions and voice, and live she was awesome, she could show these young pop sensations a thing or two for sure. Berlin seemed to really be the only act that was genuinely the best part of this show. Worth the money I paid just to see them alone, and this was another band that I just liked in the 80's. Worst-ABC, you were the whole reason I showed up for this show. I was a fan when I was a young lass, I left disappointed. Having never seen them in the past I thought this a great opportunity, and in the 5th row, prime seating. First the seemed to be late getting t the stage, then technical difficulties with a drum falling over seemed to rattle the bands confidence. Lots of slow love songs, which are great, but for this show, the crowd was not having it. Took too long for them to work the momentum back up and bring the crowd back. It was actually pretty hard to watch at one point, but like every train wreck, it's hard to look away. It seemed like the band could barely stand one another and there was no chemistry what-so-ever. Marty, still trying to figure out the Catsup and Mustard suit, would have like to seen you in something retro and shiny, but that's just my personal expectation.

    Berlin stole the show

    by Bee13 on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

All of the acts were great, but Berlin stole the show. Terri Nunn has a great voice and is an amazing front person for any band. They played old, new and covers. If you enjoy 80s music this show was for you.

    80's rockers still entertatin!

    by RonM11 on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The Regeneration Tour 2009 did not let me down. Enjoyable evening of entertainment. Berlin stood out at as having the most energy and complete show. ABC delivered a mellow, but musically sharp set. It was a joy to hear the songs live, and with an enthusiastic crowd. Wang Chung was a great addition, it was a treat to see and hear their songs live. Cutting Crew did a nice job opening, tough job, but the crowd was in to it by the second song. It was cool hear an new song. A great night for all, music brough back many happy memories.

    BERLIN RULES!!!!!

by BERLINFAN on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

I THINK BERLIN SHOULD HAVE CLOSED THE SHOW. THEY SEEMED TO HAVE A MORE ENERGIZED SET. PEOPLE WERE MORE ON THEIR FEET AND DANCING WITH THEM. MAYBE THIS IS A LITTLE BIASED AS I ONLY WENT TO THE CONCERT TO SEE BERLIN. TERRI NUNN WAS HOT!!!!!! ABC'S SET RAN A LITTLE TOO LONG. I WOULD GO TO SEE BERLIN AGAIN.

Wrong venue, Berlin especially shined though

by BilWithOneL on 7/17/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

While Rosemont is easy to get to (car, bus, EL), the show was not even close to being sold out, and this was surprising for a Friday. For these throwback nostalgia shows, the venues should be ones that don't have a "suburban-cheesy-cannot-drink-alcohol-in-your-seat" feel. Instead a smaller venue in Chicago proper would have brought more energy. None of the groups were terrible, but Berlin was amazing and deserved to be headliner over ABC. Wang Chung was a great warm-up for Berlin. Cutting Crew at least had their one hit and of course played a 10 minute version of that ;)

    Totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by 80sgirlforever on 7/17/09M Resort Spa Casino - Henderson

When I purchased tickets was not aware I would be attending first ever concert at the M Resort and I must say it was a wonderful and memorable experience. Stage setup was perfect, sound was perfect, beautiful summer evening in Vegas was perfect. All bands sounded just like cassettes back in the day and except for Missing Persons ending so abruptly, all bands performed beautifully and ABC closing out the program was the greatest. Danced, sang, drank, wished I was 20 again! Perfect evening, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great Show

by BobandDave on 7/16/09Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

These bands were fantastic! In their time they were everywhere. And that night they were there just for us. The best part was the vocal talent that these unique voices have. I've been singing those songs ever since. Not to mention our seats were great! Cannot say enough about Berlin so I won't even try. Amazing!!!!!.
