About

ABC IN CONCERT:

British new wave sensation ABC rose to fame in the early '80s thanks to their sophisticated pop sound and the splashy, stylish showmanship of lead singer Martin Fry. Three decades later Fry is as dapper and confident as ever at the band's live shows, crooning classic ABC hits like "The Look of Love" and "All My Heart" as if not a day had passed. From his charming accent and tailored suits to his perfectly preserved pipes, Fry remains a consummate performer, exuding the energy and charisma of a performer at the top of his game. Whether he's shooting that "Poison Arrow" straight to fans' hearts or warning that "Vanity Kills", Fry's passionate voice and upbeat stage presence always gets ticket buyers singing and dancing along on ABC's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

ABC formed in Sheffield, UK in the late '70s with Fry initially acting as the band's synth player. By 1980 he had become lead singer, and in 1981 ABC scored their first hit with the UK Top 20 single "Tears Are Not Enough". Their rise continued in 1982 with their debut album The Lexicon of Love, which topped the UK Albums Chart and scored a No. 1 dance hit in the US with "The Look of Love". Their chart success waned in the mid-'80s, but by 1987 ABC was back on top with their fourth album Alphabet City, which spawned the US dance chart No. 1 "When Smokey Sings". Though the band's lineup has evolved over the years, Fry has remained a constant, releasing albums and touring throughout the '90s and '00s. In 2008 he released ABC's eighth album Traffic, a stellar slice of '80s-inspired pop that critics hailed as a return to form. Since then he's continued to treat fans around the world to his signature debonair performances.

I've seen BERLIN and ABC before, but they were extra good this time.It was a a great mixture of old songs with some new ones mixed in.their intensity was at a high and it came through in the performances.I never saw WANG CHUNG or CUTTING CREW before, but I did enjoy them too. I went to last years show and really enjoyed it also.I'm glad this is becomming a regular event, thanks!

    Regeneration Tour

by Funsocalguy on 7/10/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

Was great to see these 80's acts again. Even though they weren't with the original lineups, they still sounded great and made you go back in time

    Sounded Great!

by Kalcala on 7/10/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

The bands were great and sounded the same as they did in the 80's. Had a great time. My only complaint is that the show was too short...other than that, had a blast!

    ABC & Berlin were outstanding!

by CaliPlay on 7/10/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

All four bands gave good performances. That said, we found the sound to be quite spotty. In particular, the sound was off for most of the Berlin performance. Luckily, the sound seemed to have been fixed for ABC. I had last seen ABC back 1982 or 1983. Martin Fry hasn't skipped a beat. I would absolutely go see ABC again - especially if they played a longer set. Overall, the concert seemed a bit rushed, but I guess that the price you pay for seeing four bands. Also, I think a smaller venue would have been more appropriate for these bands since their followings at this point I'm sure are somewhat limited.

    ABC Rocked the Place!!!

by Melo on 7/10/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

I loved all four bands that played last night. They all gave a killer show. Although the venue was something else. I have seen two other concerts there and the venue was fine at those shows, but last night since there were allot of empty seats they covered ours so we ended up sitting where we wanted but everything seemed not up to par. Even all there technical difficulties, but if ABC plays there again. I'd consider going.

    ABC and Berlin Rocked

by nohopaul on 7/10/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

All bands were pretty good and I was quite surprised at the voice quality for the singers of Cutting Crew and Wang Chung, They sounded terrific and wish they would have had more of an audience. All bands delivered and were very gracious.
