About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

Everything was perfect including easy parking, fast going lines, and the concert itself. The concert was lots of fun with so many great songs. The concert set up and flow was amazing.

  • Lord of music!!

Nonstop excitement from the God of music. Once in a life time experience.

  • Not a good interactive show

by NP on 8/19/22Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 1 out of 5

Though A. R Rahman Is big name we bought ticket but it was not a good performance where zero interaction with audience. No greetings or appreciation from organizer. Except one all performers had very poor body language like they are performing forcefully. No food option for kind of population(south Asian) attending show. It was very loud and was not able to hear what they are singing properly. Organizer should have communicated which language songs will be performed mostly. Disappointed.

  • Dream come true

by YogiBear on 8/18/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Always wanted to see AR Rahman live and this was a dream come true. He and his very talented team gave amazing performances one after the other for almost 3 hours non stop. It was hard to contain this talent at a small venue like DPAC but I'm so glad they decided to perform here. DPAC as a venue is always well managed and although this show was sold out, the crowd management was executed well. Overall a great show!

  • Power Packed evening.

It was a complete show by the great musician Sri.ARR & his gifted team members.

  • Great performance but it could be vastly improved

    by A. T. on 8/17/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

Just to get this out of the way, I’m a huge fan of AR Rahman’s music. This was my first A.R. Rahman Concert and I was super excited. My family and I were sitting in section 106 at the Prudential Center. We were sitting pretty high up. I was really counting on the IMAG (image magnification) system to clearly see the performers on stage. But it wasn’t used that effectively. Instead, for the majority of the songs, they just had generic animated graphics showing up on the huge LED wall behind the performers. I’d much rather see the performers on stage. When they did show the performers on the IMAG, it was usually combined with other effects or were in a small frame or only one person was shown at a time. It felt like there was a disconnect between the IMAG video team and rest of the technical teams. I also noticed that the correct performer was not in camera during their parts. In the beginning of the performance, there was no announcement or introductions for any of the performers. Instead, all they had was the spot lights moving to illuminating the parts of the stage where each performer stood. Now if they were on the IMAG, I could have at least seen their faces. I found out that one of the performers were Jonita Gandhi only in the middle of the show, because I couldn’t see the performers on the stage. They should have done introductions of each performer to hype everyone for a great night! I really felt like this show was just a “1” of the 22 shows the team was going to be performing. As far as Sound goes, I think it was pretty good for the most part. For some of the earlier songs, I felt the drums and other instruments over powered the vocals thus making it hard to hear the vocals clearly. But for that specific venue, its probably the best you are going to get. As far as graphics goes, in addition to what I mentioned about the IMAG, I felt like the animated graphics were a bit distracting and disconnected from the songs that were played. I didn’t see an overall theme. To be consistent, at least have the names of the songs being played and better yet show the stills from the movie that it came from to create that “nostalgia”/ “feeling”. Here is my feedback: - Utilize the IMAG properly so that everyone on stage can be seen by the people who sit in the back - Have proper introductions of the performers and create a sense of hype. - Make sure vocals are in the top of the mix for the earlier songs. - Have a consistent graphics amongst all of the sets so that it doesn’t feel disconnected. Don’t have graphics that are distracting from the acts of the songs. Overall, I felt like this was an over ambitious rushed production. 22 cities in a month is a lot of traveling and tiresome. I still Love ARR's Music.

EVERY SONG WAS SOOOOO BEAUTIFULLLL. He’s so good and also let other young singers sing his songs which is so kind.

  • Sad

by Wm on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

Was a sad and pricey experience. Not a lot of hits were sung and, if so, for 30 seconds or so. The music was purposely louder than the vocal singers. A.R. Was removed from the crowd. If he needed voice rest, I wish the space between concerts were appropriately planned. Didn’t enjoy the concert but I wish the artists well

  • Out of the world experience

  • Very disappointed

by RR on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

He sang more South Indian songs! Not enough Hindi songs. Also he was like a DJ behind his box. The junior singers sang most of the songs.

  • Amazing performance

by Sashank on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing performance, great show and superb experience

  • Waste of money

by Hetal on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

We went there in a group of 8. I wish he would have sang at least 5 hindi songs by himself. Or the promoter would have advertised this show as other language song show. Literally we were sitting there and looking like we came from different planet. On top of that other singers who came with him, sang 3 hindi songs but he only sang 3. Complete disappointment

  • Excellent but it would be better if less South Indian songs

by Parul on 8/16/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Nice songs but less South Indian songs just because we don’t understand language

  • The music was mostly for South Indian community It should

by Arvind on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

Disappointed because it was thought he will play Bollywood music but it was played only for 45 minutes Also show star Ted late No conftrol Terrible moneydown the drain feel cheated not a going

  • AMAZING- NJ (except some audience)

    by D on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

A.R. Rahman needs no words. The show itself was absolutely great/brilliant, but it didn't start until almost 8:45pm. That I can be sure is because of the audience, since almost 60% walked in after 8:30. Even during the show a lot of people kept walking up and down a 100 times making it annoying to really enjoy the visual treat. Other than that it was terrific, but I do recommend not taking any aisle seats since a lot of the disruptions happen.

  • Good but could be better

by ROHITASHVA on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

    1. Excellent singing 2. Good acoustics 3. Very good team of both singers and orchestra 4. Stage too small and cramped, could not be seen from far 5. Orchestra members were hardly visible. They need to be both seen and heard for a complete experience, otherwise it appears as if lip syncing is happening 6. Stage lighting was poor and inadequate

  • Not upto expectations

by someone on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

Didn't sing lot of famous songs and too many of it not in Hindi. Wasn't for a broader public.

  • Horrible show and disappointed

    by RahmanShowGuestAug12 on 8/15/22Rating: 1 out of 5

I purchased the last min tickets to watch AR Rahman legend's show at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Fri, Aug 12. I was expecting him to sing his bollywood classic songs but instead he covered more Tamil-songs. Completely disappointed and never expected such an abysmal performance from AR Rehman !!
