Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India
A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.
Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.
Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.
Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.
There were no screens on either side of the stage. Sound arrangement also wasn't great. Too much of bass.
AC was not even enough and we were sweating inside while the performance was going on. The floor seating with regular chairs is bad as there was no clear way to see the stage as all the chairs felt like at the same level.
Stadium was overcrowded and very noisy being an open area. Could not hear any lyrics at all. Overall disappointed. This will be our last concert at that location.
Love AR Rahman concert . It was excellent. Sound system was not excellent though . And the seat was not good . No cushion. Very uncomfortable.
Wished for more Telugu songs. That’s the only disappointment
The show started ontime and the event venue was well organized with entrance , stalls inside, and chairs inside the auditorium. The show was well rehearsed and very colorful. My only regret was that the show lasted for only 2 hrs and 15 mins. I wish it was for at least 3 hrs
It was a meh experience and not worth the hassle of attending a in-person concert if you don’t know Tamil. The Bollywood songs were entertaining but the regional selection was boring if you don’t understand Tamil. It’s not fun to listen to songs that you love in a language you don’t understand for a full hour. Dis-engaged us completely. The show would’ve been perfect if all regional languages were given enough importance. We could survive through a couple of songs in a language we don’t understand as long as we are given one that we love!
Right from choice of co-singers, songs, music equipment suited to the venue etc, everything left a lot to be desired! Could have passed as a decent performance if it was any other music composer but the bar is higher for a legend like ARR. it was disappointing….
Great to see AR Rehman in Dallas Have attended his concerts in Chennai One big disappointment is too many Hindi songs and some of his evergreen songs from Roja, Alaipayuthey, VV, Mersal and many more missed out Understand that the audience was a split from different Indian states but Rehman sir classic is always from south Other than that it was a rocking concert and the time was too less for a legend Another one is the event organized on weekday evening
The only thing that was a hassle was bag restrictions. Which we had to walk back to the car. If that was notified through text before the event it would have been a great experience for rice.
I had a good experience. It was my first time and the hall not being too small and too big was just the right size to be able to see the performers and have a good experience!!
My family and I went to the concert this past Friday. There was seven of us as we expected this Legend to blow the roof off the building. But the night was a lacklustre. Don’t get me wrong, the singers were phenomenal but that’s about it. There was nothing exciting from the concert. It’s a shame because we know this Legend is talented and along with the singers, but they failed to make the show entertaining. I felt the show was uninspiring for the first hour but once the Bollywood songs were played in the last hour, that’s when the crowd got some energy. At the end of the day, I’m glad I got to see this Legend perform but I highly doubt I would ever go to his live show again in the future. Thanks.
