About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

  • Very disappointed

by SG on 8/29/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

I went with low expectations and still this AR Rahman show managed to lower it further! I've decided to never go back to that show again! I couldn't hear whatever he was saying. The sound quality was poor. Most of the orchestra music is piped, and don't think they bothered to respect the paying audience, since they knew there are a lot of other people who will pay premium to come. I guess when your objective is only make money, the quality suffers as it showed here. And yeah he should spare his singing and focus what he can do better, that is composing...

  • Amazing! The best concert ever

Hands down the best concert!!! The show was sold out, which speaks volumes.

  • Ok concert

by N on 8/29/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Rahman is a class act. But wish he brings veteran singers. Looked like lip syncing for few songs and many like Karaoke. India is big country with lots of languages. He can include 1-2 languages of preference when people buy ticket. Because he creates music in many Indian languages. With the above said method he can know how many people like Hindi, Tamil or Telugu for that city and he can tailor the play list. One concert he would have many Tamil songs and one concert many Hindi songs and people are upset. Better luck next time! It was a sell out crowd.

  • Event was amazing.

Great experience, AR Rahman is mesmerizing as always.

  • Amazing experience

A R Rehman is a legend, and this show was so good, from the start till the end, we were lost in his voice and his magic of music.

  • California to Mississippi

by NB on 8/27/22Landers Center - SouthavenRating: 5 out of 5

I actually ended up seeing AR Rahman on his current tour in both a sold out Hollywood Bowl show in California and a half-filled Landers Center in Mississippi, and the commitment and energy the performers brought to both was phenomenal. The energy of the crowd was better in a sold out Hollywood Bowl, but I think I enjoyed the actual music more in the Landers Center. The only possible complaint I could make is that I'll still have those same songs stuck in my head two months from now!

  • Amazing concert in the iconic Fox theater, Detroit

    by Deepak A on 8/27/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Amazing good mix of all songs . Loved all of his Tamil songs ! Rahman is truly a legend ! ! Fox theater was majestic and really a good first time experience. I parked right outside the theater. Thanks Ticketmaster for suggesting parking right outside the theater.

  • Once in a Lifetime Experience

by Pinkpanther on 8/27/22Landers Center - SouthavenRating: 5 out of 5

Listening to AR Rahman music live is an incredible experience. My friends and I had a wonderful time dancing away to some of the best music and chartbusters. Just wish the venue was Orpheum and not the Landers Center as the sound system and seating is not the best at Landers.

  • Very good experience

by Raj on 8/24/22Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

Wonderful selection of songs. They maintained the vibe throughout. Lights and graphics were stunning. Most of us expected more live instruments and more artists. It was a good but not a grand show. Not sure if we would go again.

  • Phenomenal Concert

by koko on 8/23/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I am glad I bought the ticket; however, I regret that I didn't buy them earlier when I first found out. It was way cheaper with even better seats but I still I feel worth spending on his concert.

  • Disappointed

by ConcertLover on 8/22/22Rating: 2 out of 5

More Tamil songs than Hindi and Rahman himself sang only few of those. Wish it was advertised as such. We would have skipped. Not worth paying all the money (it was pricey).

  • underwhelming

by SAM on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

It was heavily biased towards the non-Hindi fans. we had come with friends to hear so many of his great Hindi songs and except for a couple, we didnt get enough of him. He should have advertised that this was a predominantly non-Hindi concert. Moreover, the visuals were distracting. we went to hear him. Not watch gimmicks from a teenaged computer geek. If it had actualy performance by the singers on stage, thats different. But just making computer generated images actually was quite distracting. Should have shown the performers play their instruments, drums, guitars, keyboard etc and then close up of singers.

  • Production was great but audio was terrible.

by Minnie on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Could not hear the Lyrics at all. We were on main floor section 4 and it was very difficult to hear any lyrics as the audio was very bad

  • Fun but loud

by One ARR Fan on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

It was a lot of fun and excitement. The ambience and the time we spent with our friends there was amazing, however, it was hard to hear the songs well due to the loudness of the music.

  • A memorable one

by Praveen on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

AR Rehman is one of India's greatest music composer and it was a bucket list item to check off. It lived up to everything you could expect. The cherry on the cake was Fox Theatre. What a venue! Would come back to another event just to look at the architecture

  • Loved it

Fantastic! cannot wait to see AR Rahman come back and perform again

  • Absolutely brilliant

    by P. H. on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Wow...that was some show from ARR and his fantastic band of musicians and vocalists...played many of his hits in Tamil and some Hindi songs. Great venue with good acoustics added with superb mixing...made it a memorable evening. Will surely see him again whenever he tours. God bless.

  • It was a good performance

by Rana on 8/22/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

A R Rahman is beyond any trivial review like this, but his recent performance at the Fox Theatre, Detroit, might draw some discussions from the audience. First of all, he excluded many of his popular scores from this show. One cause can be that he is on a month-long USA tour and avoids performing the same numbers repeatedly in different venues. Given the show's status, Sound mixing wasn't impeccable; there were instances where vocals were buried entirely under instruments. The lighting and graphics were fantastic, and the show's pace was good. Given the ticket price, Rahman could have extended the show by another thirty minutes.

  • Display

by Any on 8/21/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

    1) Big display screens showing the stage performance was missing, making it difficult for distant viewers. 2) VFX effect on the only screen behind Rehman Sir had irrelevant and horrible display. 3) Performers other than Rehman sir couldn’t be seen! 4) overall song selection was good, however, songs from cult classics like sathiya,RDB, JodhaAkbar, Lagaan etc could have been better!
