About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

  • Great concert.. needs improvement targeting to audience

by SI on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Great selection of songs.. entertaining overall.. the crowd was mostly South Indian people and should have adjusted the songs list accordingly to minimize on number of Hindi songs and increase Tamil and Telugu songs.. mixing Tamil and Telugu in the same song was awesome

  • Disappointed

    by RahmanShowGuestAug12 on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

Expected him to sing more hindi songs.. he was comfortable singing Tamil songs. Completely disappointed...

  • The band should have played his hits

    by O on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

The band should have played his hits instead of random new hits.

  • Absence of big screens

by Frank on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Surprised to see no big screens to cover the performance. It made us feel poor sitting in back rows. For us it was audio only show and with a view from far.

  • A lifetime experience

by Diya on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

It was amazing to experience AR Rahman's music that has shaped our lives over years with a large, vibrant crowd. The concert was well organized, performances brilliant and the atmosphere scintillating.

  • Out of this world experience!!

by Eagle eye on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

ARR.. just name is enough. The god of music, Mozart of madras and so many titles he posses and there is a reason for this. Undoubtedly, the king, the goat of Indian music. If we have his concert everyday, I will go and watch him live everyday. Rating and reviews are not applicable to GOATS like ARR.

  • worst of all AR shows attended so far

by KT on 8/15/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

Wasnt a great experience, poor song selection, loud sound system and total focused on regional songs then Hindi. I have attended prior AR Rahman shows and he has always balanced out for all, this time it was completely off and pure waste.

  • Excellent show at Dhuram,NC

by SRI on 8/14/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Watching ARR show in live was a spectacular experience. Overall enjoy the the show. Especially arena was too good for light and sound effects. And ARR tried to managed and cover all three languages(Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) songs. Along with ARR his team Singers and musicians performed very well. Kudos to entire team and organizers.

  • Personal experience

    by R_1 on 8/13/22Rating: 2 out of 5

Started half hour late, good music but not much for crowd to sing and dance along to, slow at some point and fast at some. I know its a big arena but no display to actually see the artist everone i spoke to was disappointed with that. Guess i was a little bitter because someone kept standing up evertime just to make a video. Not a bad show overall.

  • Worst show ever

    by H. S. on 8/12/22Rating: 1 out of 5

Did we just pay hundreds of dollars to listen side singers all show around! Expected much more from the music legend. Also next time label it as Tamil Language music concert. And if you want do Hindi songs, do it different show. Not going to pay a penny again. Really disappointed and don’t have enough words to write. You guys ruined all the classics with Tamil mashups. Listening on Apple music or Spotify is much better than attend this useless show. Also, please label it as Jonita Gandhi show.

  • Everything is went well

  • Very disappointed with A R Rehman Show

by Sugar Land Resident on 8/3/22Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land - Sugar LandRating: 1 out of 5

I have attended a few of Rehman’s show with all known singers who originally sang his songs. This time we had B grade singers who were average. He is a good singer but cannot carry the show on that strength alone, like Javed Ali or Arijit can. What made him famous was Bollywood songs. But many songs were Tamil. I felt like this was a show of Tamil songs subsidized but other listeners. There was more show than substance. Never again would I spend money on his shows.

  • Expected more

by Ana T. on 8/3/22Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land - Sugar LandRating: 2 out of 5

The concert was very average. Expected AR Rehmna to hold the stage and sing more songs. Its great to see new talents and the chance they are getting on stage. However, the concert is of AR Rehman and people paid for him. The show needed a better run through of which songs would go next and making sure 75% of the time AR Rehman sang the songs. All he did was hook lines of 4 songs and rest were taken care by the other artists. The audiences were disconnected and it wasn’t a good show knowing its AR Rehman.

  • It was an awesome show. A R Rahman is a maestro in his art.

  • Magical experience

by Sai on 8/3/22Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land - Sugar LandRating: 4 out of 5

ARR concert was spectacular as expected. Song selection and of course his mesmerizing voice took us to a different world. I had expected little bit more of Tamil songs and of course more singers in the lineup would have helped. Maestro was in full form and we thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Venue was superb, check in process was smooth and the auditorium was well equipped for the best sound and visual effects.
