About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

    Very disappointed

by RR on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

He sang more South Indian songs! Not enough Hindi songs. Also he was like a DJ behind his box. The junior singers sang most of the songs.

    Waste of money

by Hetal on 8/17/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

We went there in a group of 8. I wish he would have sang at least 5 hindi songs by himself. Or the promoter would have advertised this show as other language song show. Literally we were sitting there and looking like we came from different planet. On top of that other singers who came with him, sang 3 hindi songs but he only sang 3. Complete disappointment

Excellent but it would be better if less South Indian songs

by Parul on 8/16/22Prudential Center - Newark

Nice songs but less South Indian songs just because we don’t understand language

    AMAZING- NJ (except some audience)

    by D on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

A.R. Rahman needs no words. The show itself was absolutely great/brilliant, but it didn't start until almost 8:45pm. That I can be sure is because of the audience, since almost 60% walked in after 8:30. Even during the show a lot of people kept walking up and down a 100 times making it annoying to really enjoy the visual treat. Other than that it was terrific, but I do recommend not taking any aisle seats since a lot of the disruptions happen.

    Good but could be better

by ROHITASHVA on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

    1. Excellent singing 2. Good acoustics 3. Very good team of both singers and orchestra 4. Stage too small and cramped, could not be seen from far 5. Orchestra members were hardly visible. They need to be both seen and heard for a complete experience, otherwise it appears as if lip syncing is happening 6. Stage lighting was poor and inadequate

    Not upto expectations

Didn't sing lot of famous songs and too many of it not in Hindi. Wasn't for a broader public.

    Horrible show and disappointed

    by RahmanShowGuestAug12 on 8/15/22

I purchased the last min tickets to watch AR Rahman legend's show at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Fri, Aug 12. I was expecting him to sing his bollywood classic songs but instead he covered more Tamil-songs. Completely disappointed and never expected such an abysmal performance from AR Rehman !!

Great concert.. needs improvement targeting to audience

by SI on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

Great selection of songs.. entertaining overall.. the crowd was mostly South Indian people and should have adjusted the songs list accordingly to minimize on number of Hindi songs and increase Tamil and Telugu songs.. mixing Tamil and Telugu in the same song was awesome

    Absence of big screens

by Frank on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

Surprised to see no big screens to cover the performance. It made us feel poor sitting in back rows. For us it was audio only show and with a view from far.

    A lifetime experience

by Diya on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

It was amazing to experience AR Rahman's music that has shaped our lives over years with a large, vibrant crowd. The concert was well organized, performances brilliant and the atmosphere scintillating.

    Out of this world experience!!

by Eagle eye on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

ARR.. just name is enough. The god of music, Mozart of madras and so many titles he posses and there is a reason for this. Undoubtedly, the king, the goat of Indian music. If we have his concert everyday, I will go and watch him live everyday. Rating and reviews are not applicable to GOATS like ARR.

worst of all AR shows attended so far

by KT on 8/15/22Prudential Center - Newark

Wasnt a great experience, poor song selection, loud sound system and total focused on regional songs then Hindi. I have attended prior AR Rahman shows and he has always balanced out for all, this time it was completely off and pure waste.

    Excellent show at Dhuram,NC

    by SRI on 8/14/22

Watching ARR show in live was a spectacular experience. Overall enjoy the the show. Especially arena was too good for light and sound effects. And ARR tried to managed and cover all three languages(Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) songs. Along with ARR his team Singers and musicians performed very well. Kudos to entire team and organizers.

    Personal experience

    by R_1 on 8/13/22

Started half hour late, good music but not much for crowd to sing and dance along to, slow at some point and fast at some. I know its a big arena but no display to actually see the artist everone i spoke to was disappointed with that. Guess i was a little bitter because someone kept standing up evertime just to make a video. Not a bad show overall.
