About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

  • Nothing exceptional to see or hear

by Mitch on 8/10/25Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5

Went to the concert with great anticipation . The venue was half empty and hard rock up graded our seats ( very nice and appreciated gesture). As for the concert- I do not speak Hindi, and all the songs were in the native tongue. The music itself was pretty pedestrian in my opinion. The singing and musicianship was nothing to write home about, although I think my opinion was in the minority, The audience was for the most part of Indian decent, and seemed to be familiar with the tunes, and appreciative of the presentation. The light show, was outstanding. Don’t have to see AR Rahman again. Electric Pop is not my bag.

  • Regional concert

by Syed on 8/10/25Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5

Too much regional (Tamil) songs played. Should have played some Hindi pieces so that wider audience could enjoy!

  • Fun. Good energy. Bring earplugs.

by Wil on 8/10/25Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Was a fun time. He was great. Decent energy. The bass/decibel level gets to over 105, sometimes over 110db at various times for whole songs so bring earplugs. Was the loudest show we’ve ever been to. We had earplugs and still had some hearing loss for about 24 hours. A lot of kids at show with no ear protection so hopefully was just a one off.

  • Melodious Concert

by Shruti on 8/10/25Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent and mesmerizing. A. R. Rahman was on stage for straight 3 hours. Very impressive. All his singers were fantastic too. And the Band was just phenomenal. It was so good to see Columbia. Lady Drummer and and Indian Lady guitarist.

  • Do not expect more than 10% of Hindi Bollywood songs

by Dave on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 2 out of 5

His performance is primarily catered to the Tamil language audience. One should be cautious and expect no more than 10% of performance towards mainstream Bollywood. 90% is dedicated to the Tamil audience. Go there with such expectations. We had expected more.

  • Good but not great

    by Mr.V on 8/8/25EagleBank Arena - FairfaxRating: 3 out of 5

The speakers/sound is bad. Ruined the concert. Made it hard to enjoy an amazing concert.

  • High energy

by Priya on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 5 out of 5

As usual ARR delivers. The performance was high energy and well orchestrated. So glad the show started on time considering his previous tour a few years ago started more than an hour late with no apology or explanation from either the organizers or the artistes. All the performances were well delivered except a couple of songs could have been avoided in the song selection. But overall he and his team performed a lot of the most popular songs with a good mix of slow and fast numbers and in different languages.

  • Bad singers and acoustics.

by Su on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 1 out of 5

While the show is by composer , he picked rap bad singers to perform. Most songs were sung in Regional languages, disappointment for non native Tamil speakers . He has large number of hit hindi numbers otherwise. The show date is mid week and first day of school year, terrible scheduling

  • Sound level

by vgp on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 4 out of 5

It was truly a great experience to see my music idol in person and performing live. It's memorable experience for lifetime. My only concern and feedback is, I felt the sound level was way too high and unbearable for 3 hours. Not sure, the proper sound check was done before the concert. Definitely they have to sort it out so that it will be even more enjoyable and pleasant.

  • Satisfactory

by Ron on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 3 out of 5

Overall sound and lighting were good, but seats were the worst with padding missing on most of the chairs, so ended up standing the rest of the evening

  • fantastic Show

by SALIM on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely world class performance. Three hours of non stop musical experience with the best of best musicians. Love every minute of the show. Show starts on time and never had a dull moment. My one of the favorite concert. Thanks to AR and his team.

  • It was alright

by Sam on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 3 out of 5

Too many South Indian songs. The presentation was alright. A few songs in the end were amazingly good though.

  • Fun but not great

by Jagger on 8/8/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 3 out of 5

Average singers and low production quality. Only one singer was really good. Rahman is a legend, nonetheless and it was a fun time.

  • Sound quality/Clarity was not good.

by Keerthivasan on 8/7/25Lenovo Center - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

In the same venue I experienced Hans Zimmer live last year, the sound quality was so good. But for AR Rahman Wonderment Concert, the sound quality is subpar, the ceiling array speakers were not powered, only the stage speakers were live. The bass was overpowering the mids. Usually the sound engineers for AR Rahman concert will make sure it's the best, but this time it was not that case. Even in India, AR RAHMAN concert sounded so good in outdoor environments. People were taking critical about the tracks being used instead of live performance at many places(Invisible instruments) , if true, then it's totally unacceptable. Visual effects were not that great, there could have been multiple screens focusing on the instrumentalist, but the stage had just one vertical screen and not much to showcase. Very less star singers, the show was like a one man ARR show. The set list was good. I am satisfied since there were songs performed from Rockstar movie.

  • Didnt expect to be in other language than Hindi

by PalP on 8/6/25EagleBank Arena - FairfaxRating: 2 out of 5

We love all his Hindi songs and expected the same. But didn't know he is going to sing in another language too. We enjoyed the music but couldnt enjoy it to the fullest.. A big disappointment.

  • EXCELLENT

  • Kaleidoscope of Nostalgia, vibes and talent

    by N N on 8/5/25Lenovo Center - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

A R Rehman is synonymous with extraordinary music in Indian cinema and he has brought that and more to this concert series. The concert was full of incredibly talented artists that did more than justice to the songs (originally sung by others). It was a good mix of hindi, tamil and telugu songs in his extremely vast repertoire. A R Rehman knows what the audience wants and he definitely delivered on the nostalgia factor. My only complaint is that the concert could have been half hour more and accomodated a few more (highly) anticipated songs. The artists focused on singing each song from start to finish and but a medley of popular songs could have been slightly more satisfying.
