About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

  • Incredible show

by Hassan A on 8/18/25NOW Arena - Hoffman EstatesRating: 5 out of 5

AR Rahman is a generational talent and he puts on an incredible show. We really enjoyed the concert. The event organizers need to do a better job with VIP experience as it was a bit underwhelming for the price we paid.

  • Disappointing waste of time and money

by TM on 8/17/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

It would have been better if it had been advertised as a Tamil language concert. The guy usually sings in Ursu and that's why we went. But we didn't understand most of the songs. And we could have saved our time and money. Disappointed.

  • Worst concert I ever attended

by Sri on 8/17/25NOW Arena - Hoffman EstatesRating: 1 out of 5

Where to start. I am not a review person but I have to write a review on the show. 1) The sound system is so bad, too laud and not clear. Not able to identify the song and enjoy it clearly. 2) Selection of songs. He had major hits that made him popular. He chose to play songs that are mediocre, and I can see people around me disappointed. 3) Chose to majority of songs in Tamil only. No other south Indian languages songs were included. 4) all my friends and other I talked to were totally disappointed and flat out mad. I would not recommend this concert.

  • One word - Amazing!

by Ach on 8/17/25NOW Arena - Hoffman EstatesRating: 5 out of 5

We had the most unforgettable evening at the A.R. Rahman concert! From the moment he stepped on stage, the energy in the arena was electric. His voice was as magical as ever, effortlessly blending classics with newer hits, and every note felt like it touched the soul. The live arrangements were phenomenal, layers of instruments, powerful vocals, and the fusion of Indian and Western styles that only Rahman can deliver. Songs like [insert your favorite song from the night] had the entire crowd singing along, and the visuals, lighting, and sound design elevated the whole experience into something larger than life. What stood out most was the emotion he poured into every performance. There were moments of pure nostalgia, moments of goosebumps, and moments where we couldn’t help but dance and cheer. The concert wasn’t just music, it was an experience of culture, unity, and pure joy. Leaving the venue, we all agreed: A.R. Rahman’s music is timeless, and seeing him perform live is a memory we’ll treasure forever.

  • Best show with terrible seating arrangements

by Karthik on 8/17/25NOW Arena - Hoffman EstatesRating: 5 out of 5

A R Rahman concert was out of the world however NOW Arena did a terrible job in seating placement relative to the stage. For 3 hours we were made to turn right to watch the entire show. Ridiculous for them to do this.

  • Mixed feelings

by Sri on 8/17/25Rating: 3 out of 5

After years of dreaming about seeing A.R. Rahman live, I finally got the chance to attend his concert with a group of 14 Hindi-speaking friends. We knew we’d hear a mix of Tamil and Hindi songs, but, wow, the setlist was basically a Tamil song extravaganza. For the few songs with Hindi or Telugu dubbed versions, they’d tease us with a couple of lines in those languages before—poof—back to Tamil. The Tamil-speaking crowd was absolutely living their best life, while many of us were left clueless, humming along to unfamiliar tunes. The concert was mostly a loud, high-energy affair with barely any of those soulful melodies we were craving. And the singers? Mostly native Tamil speakers tackling Hindi songs, sometimes veering painfully off-key. Oh, and don’t get me started on the lack of a chorus or choir—because apparently, that’s optional now. A.R. Rahman himself took the stage to belt out most of the songs himself including the popular “Nahin Saamne” and “Chaiyya Chaiyya” which were little uncomfortable to listen to. The stadium was packed to the brim, so clearly the fans were out in full force. Not that our opinion matters in the grand scheme of things, but we just wanted to share our slightly out-of-tune experience.

  • Bad experience.

by KV on 8/16/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

The audio lacked clarity. The song selections were poor. But the major annoyance and put off was the visual graphics. They were gaudy and obnoxious and not giving with the songs. Wish they had considered a live dance troupe or entertainment. Lacking in finesse just unfortunatemblove his music, but the live concert was awful.

  • Great show except...

    by Niran N on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The show itself was great and the all the performance was great. However, the Platnum VIP ticket we bought was not worth it. We were supposed to have a Meet & Greet with A.R. Rahman after the show but they had issued too many complementry VIP passes and we never had a Meet & Greet. We just had a 5 second photo op with him. It was not as advertised!

  • Outstanding, needed one playback singer

by Ankur on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Amazing show, great music system in the arena, but I wish he had at least one well known playback singer with him. Another wish was, more Hindi songs and fewer Tamil songs

  • Tamil songs

by Rose on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It would be really helpful to know the main language in which the concert will be given. For the size of the Tamil audience, we felt the Tamil language lacked sufficient time.

  • AMAZING

Loved every second of it. Well organized and had an awesome time

  • Somewhat of a meh experience

    by Toronto_Guy on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

A.R. Rahman has such a massive body of super successful tracks built over the decades. However, in this event, he surprisingly chose (what is in my opinion) more of the mid-tier tracks. What ruined it further for me was the horrible sound mixing. At many instances during the evening, I couldn't even hear the voice track (from ARR or the singers) but just the music track. I was left a little disappointed by the event. I have attended his other tours and found them wayyy more enjoyable.

  • A.R.R in Toronto – Tamil Fans Disappointed

by Kisha on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I’ve been a huge A.R. Rahman fan my whole life, and his Toronto concert was a dream to attend. But I left wishing he’d consider doing two separate shows next time—one in Tamil, one in Hindi. I understand music has no language, but for many of us, Rahman’s Tamil songs aren’t just tunes—they’re tied to our childhood memories, family moments, and identity. The lyrics, in our own language, are part of why his music hits so deeply. At this show, the majority of the set leaned towards Hindi, and while those songs are beautiful, it hurt a little to feel that such a big Tamil audience didn’t get to experience as much of the music we grew up with. Toronto has a huge Tamil community that loves and supports him. He has more than enough timeless hits in both languages to fill two nights. Splitting the concerts would allow both Tamil and Hindi fans to fully immerse themselves in the songs that shaped their lives. Rahman’s music will always unite people—but giving each language its own night would make the experience even more magical.

  • Surreal Experience

by Prithul Sg on 8/15/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

A lifetime experience. Ample convenience and amenities such as restaurants and restrooms. Easy access. Sound system could be made a but better and clearer though. Insufficient leg room.

  • Amazing experience

by Bollyloverdad on 8/11/25Amalie Arena - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing concert at a very beautiful arena with good seating arrangements. Security was extremely good and the food options were also quite good. It is located in perfect location walking distance from everywhere. The sound system was excellent.

  • Amazing, party

by IK on 8/11/25Amalie Arena - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

Had a lot of fun, felt like a whole party. Enjoyed a lot been waiting for his concert since ages and happy finally could go. I traveled from another city about 2 hrs drive just for it and it was worth it.

  • Enjoyed the concert

by Lee on 8/11/25Amalie Arena - TampaRating: 3 out of 5

Overall enjoyed the concert , but my vip meet and greet with the celebrity would have been better ,it was in few seconds we are forced to go out of the area after a pic.

  • More focused on South Indian groups

by DB on 8/11/25Amalie Arena - TampaRating: 2 out of 5

Majority of 90’s songs were performed focusing South Indian audiences and us who didn’t know the wording had to just sit there. Drummers were taking over the music compare to rest of the team.

  • Great Experience!
