    Fantastic experience!

by VHH on 12/14/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I used to go to this performance 30 years ago with my small children. We all loved it. Moved a couple of hours away and had not been back until this year. I loved it even more. Beautiful settings, wonderful acting and dancing and great humor. Such a memorable afternoon!

    Great Energy

by Davie on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

A lot of people loved the non traditional aspects of the play. I did not love it. Especially politics.

    A Must See!

by cnr on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

A Christmas Carol is a wonderful show for all ages! 49 years and continuing to go on! I have seen the show many, many times and never get tired of it! David and his son, Ira, both do outstanding jobs in the role of Scrooge! The rest of the cast members all are superb! The singing, dancing, acting, costumes, music, lighting, sound, stage backdrops and scenery make you feel like you are in New York!

    excellent peformance

by Larry. O. on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Wife and I attended the performance of "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" on Dec 10, at 2:00 PM and were surprised at how well the Theater In The Park staff moved all the people - from ticket pick up at the ticket office to the line up to get into the theater to actually seating us. Very efficient and smooth. We will not get tickets through "Ticketmaster" again - because they think everyone has a smart phone and keep insisting that you get your tickets that way. Well - we do NOT have a smart phone and we got our tickets at the ticket office just before the performance. The performance and cast - especially Ira Wood as Ebenezar Scrooge - were all excellent. The kids were precious ! We will fondly remember the show for a long time.

    Better than expected!

by Hezzter on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

My husband wanted to see this show for his Birthday this year, we often call him the Scrooge. He was delighted at how funny and exciting it was. Even our 14 year old son joined us and he loved it as well. Great performances by all, kept us laughing as well as feeling the spirit of Christmas. I had been once previously and appreciate how it keeps up with current events and changes season to season. Thank you! So glad we got to enjoy this Raleigh tradition.

    A Christmas Tradition

by Tim on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

My wife and I have made this show a staple of our Christmas season. The story is timeless, and Ira David Wood III always brings current event humor each year. We have been to shows at both Memorial Auditorium and DPAC, and we think the DPAC venue holds a slight edge on acoustic quality, but both locations are great places to see the show. We are excited to see what the 50th anniversary show will be like next year!

Every year I treat my family to see A Christmas Carol and every year it’s slightly different. I love doing this with my family every year.

    Best Ever!!!

by Eleanor on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This show has been on my to-do list for 20+ years. I was lucky to get excellent seats and saw the opening show. Could not have enjoyed anything more. The talent displayed by all involved is outstanding—the actors, the singers, the orchestra, and the sets are amazing. Ira David Wood III is a master in the role of Scrooge! Do not miss this one if you can possibly get there. I’ve seen a few shows on Broadway. This local theater group wins my “people’s choice” award.

    A classic that didn't disappoint

by NanaChrisSC on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

It had been years since I had been to see the show. I live in SC and bought tickets for my 2 sisters and I as a Christmas gift. We thoroughly enjoyed the classic show that I remember from years ago. The costumes and the voices were Broadway star quality! Loved it! The only negative was that the audience was a bit cool for most of the performance. The show was great but the audience was boring!

A Grand Event for the Grands!

by Graydog on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Very exciting for the granddaughters...they forget from year to year, but the "corn" appearance from the TikTok video was really a hit. A very enjoyable day for all of us. Thanks David, etal.

    Too Much Political Commentary

by SMS on 12/13/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The cast was wonderfully talented, but the political commentary really distracted from the story. We go to the theater to get away from the distractions of life, not to be reminded of all the chaos.

    IDW IV Delivers!

by Snavec on 12/12/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

When I saw that Ira David Wood III's son, IDW IV, would be playing Scrooge opening night, I was worried that it would be a letdown from the many times I've seen IDW III play the part; but I was delighted with his performance. It was in some ways fresher and in all ways just as masterful and entertaining. What a relief to know that one of Raleigh's best Christmas Traditions is in good hands for another generation (at least!)

It was good except they just had to get political

by Big Jack on 12/12/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I wish politics were not interjected into this performance as well as interjecting gay pride into it as well. This is a classic performance and just wish any of these issues were not in it. Other than that, it was an outstanding performance.

    Tradition Continues

by s. h. on 12/12/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This was our 43rd season of watching A Christmas Carol. It fills us with joy, laughter and tears. It's a must see for our family. The only drawback this year was the seat selection I chose which was the side balcony. Not as comfortable to turn to view the stage. We will return to the auditorium facing the stage next year. We are already looking forward to the 50th anniversary next year. We also prefer DPAC to Memorial Auditorium. Thank you Ira David for making our Christmas a little more special each year.

    Like 3 day old fish

by Wayne on 12/12/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Really disappointed actually and especially with the writing. I grew up seeing this show as a kid and loved it because it was such a beautiful NC tradition with many local ties. Every year they would bring something new, change the script to make it fresh and interesting. Now after almost 20 years away I have brought my own children to see it. The script had not changed that much. OK good to see the main storyline intact. But then it got just stale. Back then they’d make fun of local celebrities and politicians usually a Helms/Hunt joke or a Gaddy dig. Now though it was as if they found the worst SNL writers to put this one together. None of the jokes were local, fresh or really funny. Most were as if they had recorded an episode of the Daily Show. Lazy writing really. What do Herschel, Sinema and Kanye have to do with NC? COVID shot deniers? Aren’t we past that? I mean they did do one related to Uncle Paul so I guess that is something. However, to be fair, they have been doing that one for over 40 years. I guess I just have better memories of a great show that is now showing its age.
