This was my fifth time seeing Ira David Wood's a Christmas Carol. While the performances are always outstanding, this was, in my opinion, one of the very best. I laughed and cried and left with such a joyful heart. Thanks to all the cast for such a wonderful and special time.
It just is not Christmas until I see this. Last year I thought it could never get better but this year was so powerful in the message that was delivered. I don't know another show that can provide so many laughs with the great humor but then bring so many tears with the ever powerful message that is delivered. You will leave just feeling GREAT!
If you've never seen the version of A Christmas Carol with Duck Commander, minion, and "What Does the Fox Say" rendition, then this is the one to see. Ira David & Company are always sensationally good, this was no exception. If you missed it this year, count on going next year, 40th anniversary, it will become a family tradition.
I used to to to this musical all the time when I was a kid and I loved it, it was part of our family Christmas tradition! However, the musical has slightly changed in a few ways that disappointed me. 1) They excluded the scene where the men come in to Scrooge & Marleys asking for donations. That means Scrooge never had the opportunity to say "They had better get on with it [dying] and decrease the surplus population". Later in the play, the Ghost of Christmas Present quotes him back on that....but he never said it! 2) Scrooges Christmas magic trick no longer uses a handgun or cannon. I always thought it was hilarious that he cut the lights and ran across the stage. The new trick wasn't nearly as cool. However, I understand they have to make some changes to keep it fresh. 3) As much as I like the contemporary and local jokes as they make a new twist on this story, sometimes I wish they would cut about 1/3 of them out. It's one after another after another, non-stop. Sometimes it's nice to just hear the original script/words. Overall, it was quite good. The music was still awesome! Those are just my minor critiques, hope they help or are informative.
My husband and I took my mom and we loved it. It was for my mom's birthday and she said it was a wonderful bi'day present. We attended the Sun. afternoon performance and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cast, very entertaining and kept the meaning of the orig play too. Thanks so much!
We have been to the show before, a few years ago. So glad that we went, it was a fun evening. We would recommend that everyone go and see it next year, for the 40th anniversary.
This is probably the 20th time I've seen this show over the years...beginning with the first! It always amazes me that Mr. Wood and Company can produce such a heart-warming experience year after year. It is always, always a GRAND performance. This year My husband and I were fortunate enough to attend with my son and daughter ( who have also been attending since they were young) and their families. We all thoroughly enjoyed the performance and left with hearts full of Christmas Spirit!
This is the second year I have seen a Christamas Carol and it's a great little twist to a classic story. It's very creative and highly entertaining. I will definitely see it again next year!
I have attended Theatre in the Park's "A Christmas Carol" for the last 15 years, and I have never failed to come away with a heart full of love for this production and for Ira David Wood III. It never disappoints as he is always updating the show, keeping it topical, funny, sarcastic, yet still maintaining the prevailing message of love and the true spirit of the season. I can't wait for the 40th anniversary show next year and seeing actors who have graced the stage previously in roles. I'm sure Mr. Wood will have more than a few new tricks up his sleeve. God bless Ira David Wood III and "put a little Christmas in your heart".
We look forward to the Christmas Carol every year.
The show was great! I have been for the last 28 years. Love it. My children (25 and 20) don't think it is Christmas until we have seen Scrooge work his magic. Thank you, Ira David Wood.
Excellent show. It began with two long song and dance numbers and I thought that this was going to be unbearable. WRONG! After the initial disappointment, it just got better and better. The comedy was terrific. The acting was excellent. The talent of Ira David Woods III is remarkable. The entire cast does a great job (especially the Ghost of Christmas past). We definitely plan on seeing it again next year. There is so much to see and hear that seeing it over and over will be a new treat every time.
Ira David Wood III is amazing! A Christmas Carol will make you laugh and cry!! Highly recommend this performance...You will not be disappointed!!
We really enjoyed every minute of the show. We had seen it many years ago, but still had a great time
The performance, sound, costumes, etc. are just amazing!
Great time. I think tickets a bit over priced but still great show.
This has been our Christmas gift to ourselves since 1989! We love it and look forward to it every year!
Had to get a plug in for our Garner man! Attending for the 11th year, we have yet to be disappointed. An understatement to say the highlight of our family Christmas events, the ensemble just get better with time. I sure-fire evening of laughter and a tear or two, equally hilarious and poignant, it is so clear that Mr. Wood and his RLT crew pour their hearts into each and every show. Calendar reminder set for the big 40th Anniversary show next year!
This was the first time that I seen this show. And I really enjoyed it.
