  • Long Running Musical Still Brings Laughter & Tears

by DSVSTheaterLover on 1/5/17DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

We saw this show yearly at Theater in the Park when our daughter was very young. We hadn't been in over 15 years and wanted to see the incomparable Ira David Wood once more in this iconic role. He was terrific - funny, poignant, moving; as well played as Scrooge as we remembered. Local jokes inserted are spot on, though I wasn't sure the entire audience caught on.

  • Ira 4th was great!

by Anonymous on 12/30/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

We were concerned that our Christmas tradition for the past 30 years would be spoiled but Ira David wood IV maintained the quality of performance. We laughed and know that our tradition is safe for years to come!

Long, and didn't keep interest. Songs were slow and boring. Some funny lines. The man who played Scrooge was good

  • A must see show for the whole family.

by MyReview2016 on 12/21/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I had a wonderful time at the show. It is a must see for the entire family. As soon as the show was over I called my adult daughter and bought her 2 tickets. The show touched my heart so much I cried the second act. I will be going back next year.

  • gets better and better and BEST yet

by thxmi on 12/21/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Every year, the show has those elements of surprise and wonder that keep us coming back. David and Ira Wood are the embodiment of Scrooge. David Moore has BECOME the character he has played for almost 25 years--Bob Cratchit. . Marley and the Ghost of Christmas Present are crowd favorites and it's hard to imagine anyone else playing these roles. We compare it to any Broadway production we've ever seen. Bravo. Too bad we are only limited to giving it five starts. This show is more like a galaxy of stars.

  • A Christmas Carol - AWESOME

A tradition for me, as usual, it gets better every year!! Ira and company are amazing, will make you laugh and bring tears to your eyes at the same time! I highly recommend that EVERYONE add this to their Christmas list as needing to do!!! Thank you for allowing us to share in your magic Ira, and you making Christmas that much more special!!!!

  • A Christmas Carol was GREAT!!

by ClintJones on 12/20/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Though we had hoped to see Ira David Wood III but were not disappointed with IV's performance. IDW IV carries the mantle for the show as well as his father but still made it his own as well. The laughter was nearly constant and the touching scenes were heart touching as well. It should be a requirement for all "Scrooges" to see each Christmas season. Ira IV closed the show with telling us to not let our differences divide us but let our being American's and living in the greatest country on Earth unite us and finished by leading the audience in singing God Bless America.

  • A Holiday Classic with a Twist!

by katiewil on 12/20/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show! Wonderfully magical, colorful, musical and comical. Plenty of current humor make this a show you can see year after year and it never gets old. This was our second year seeing the show at Saturday matinee with David IV. He is so good! Next year we may see an evening show to see his father, David III, perform.

Amazing. I make this play an annual event as part of my own Christmas. J Marley and Scrooge whether Ira David Wood III or IV are wonderful. The changes made every year keep you guessing what will happen next. Thank you for making my Christmas.

  • Not my favorite.

by Keze on 12/20/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

I went to the Saturday night performance. This was not my favorite show. I did not know that this was a "comedy." When I saw "A Christmas Carol" I thought that this was the traditional show. I am not a fan of remakes. This is my mother's favorite show and we brought her. She thought that it was okay. They really lost me when a Pokeman ran across the stage and women and men in period clothes ran across the stage with cell phones. Scrooge also came out in an Elvis costume in the show. Not for me and I will not be recommending this to anyone.

Loved it but like the father better. Father can do the lines without it sounding like it was written down.

  • Ira David Wood III was spectacular!

by Christmasdate2016 on 12/20/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I had tickets for my husband and I to have a date night for Christmas without the kids. I love this kinda stuff, but my husband is more of a hunting and farming type guy. Believe it or not, he absolutely loved it and so did I. It's not your typical Christmas Carol and is filled with unexpected humor and flare. He's still talking about that night. I had up close seats and was a little weary of the price, but they were worth every penny! Next year it will be a family outing. It was outstanding!

  • Great Play

by ArtsyRN on 12/19/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

The show was absolutely amazing. Ira Wood's adaptation of The Christmas Carol was witty, charming and included current events. I loved the use of political satire that equally called out the democratic and republican parties alike. The play was family appropriate and even my husband (who doesn't like theatre) loved it.

  • Scrooge

  • Christmas Carol Never Disappoints

by Tina7482 on 12/19/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Ira David Wood never disappoints in his role as Scrooge. He always interjects humorous "one-liners" that pertain to what's going on in the world today. This year was no different with all the political "jabs". He is so comical but can be serious and heartfelt at just the right times. Love seeing this during the Christmas season.
