  • Trumpet skit, still not working

by R0adrunner on 12/24/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

A lot of great updates in A Christmas Carol. One suggestion would be to drop the talking trumpet. Slows the play down and is hard to hear a lot of the words.

  • Comedy

The current issues Comedy mixed was good. It made an old story funny keeping the theme of the play

  • Tradition with a twist

by Becky on 12/24/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Great experience overall. Parking access, directions to the venue, and especially helpful DPAC staff made it possible for our extended family to comfortably settle in for the event. As a first time attendee to "A Christmas Carol", I was impressed by the production, especially the complexity and coordination of the music and the dance numbers. The costuming and the staging really were topnotch. Wonderful troupe of performers. I did find it a little too clever-- perhaps a few too many insider jokes that I didn't understand. I think it ran a bit too long, and wonder if it tried a little too hard to satisfy a need to include new "bits"while also retaining beloved core elements from years past. I do recognize the tension in those opposing priorities. True traditions must retain their core but be relevant in the present. I wonder what will change next year?

  • Great Play - Too Loud

by MakeSomeNoise on 12/23/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

The Christmas Carol, North Carolina style, is a fun well written play that should not be missed during the holiday season. However, this year at DPAC the sound engineer went a bit off track. During the performance my apple watch sent repeated noise notifications. The sound -- and we were sitting in the balcony - exceeded 95 decibels - a deafening level. Luckily it was not continuous but the crew really needs to dial it back. After all, this is a holiday play -- not a rock concert! It did not spoil our fun but made it a bit difficult to sit through at times.

Great take on a timeless story, with lots of humor and music to lighten the story up a bit.

DPAC is the perfect venue for this classic Christmas production. Beautiful theater and great performances from the actors and musicians. I'm making it a family tradition every year.

  • Not what I expected

by Denise on 12/22/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

We didn’t know it was a comedy. Was expecting the original dickens version. We thought since it was at the Dpac it was going to be professional not a community theater.

  • A smash performance… BOFFO!!

by The Basile Family on 12/22/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Theatre in the Park’s A Christmas Carol was tremendously entertaining and fun!! The only thing exceeding the applause were the laughs!! It was a great spin on other musical versions we’ve seen in the past!! It is a real treat that will become a family tradition for years to come!!

  • Disappointed

by Nan Z on 12/22/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Appeared to be local talent. Advertised as musical comedy but should have been listed as slap stick comedy. Music was great but comedy was a bit too much!! Scrooge was a little over the top!!

  • Amazing

by Jingle bells on 12/22/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

We have been to many productions at DPAC. A Christmas Carol was the best play we have ever seen! The actors, the music, the set, the message, everything was wonderful!.

  • Needs a little help!

Mics were not quite right, hard to hear and understand. Been going for 20+ yrs so I knew what was going on. Couple of new actors will take getting used to. Just not as wonderful as usual

  • A BIG NOOOOO

by Vicky on 12/17/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

When purchasing these tickets I thought it was more traditional boy was I wrong, It was a comedy and it was not what I expected. Not very Christmas at all. It’s was very boring and expensive. It was a waste of my time. I will never ever recommend this play to any one.

  • Tired

by Stacey on 12/15/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

I have lived in Raleigh for 13 years and have been telling myself to go see this show every year but have not taken the opportunity. Friends who have lived here for many years have told me about the local humor infused into the show each year so I knew that by now, I would be a well informed Raleighite and recognize humor related to events in the past as well as state/national events. This show disappointed me. I either missed out or there were few new humorous insertions in the script. I found the entire show to be very tired. I want, however, to recognize the outstanding costumes and settings in the show and I loved that there was a live orchestra. All told, however, it wasn't worth the $125+ that I spent on my ticket.

  • Lively, Funny, Endearing

by Joseyd on 12/11/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Lively and relevantly funny to the times. Sweet an endearing tribute to the father who previously played the role of Scrooge. Good, family fun and entertaining. Highly recommend you make this a family tradition. Keep the showing running for 50 more years!

  • Frustrated

by Christy C on 12/10/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

I didn't get to see A Christmas Carol because all of the parking around the venue was closed for another event at the Civic Center. By the time, I found reasonable parking, I was 30 minutes late and chose not to go in and disturb others.
