    Most Fun Musical!

by rockandrollatheart on 7/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Didn't know what to expect but The SpongeBob Musical was fantastic! The performers really embodied the SpongeBob cartoon characters. The set was awesome and made you feel like you were in Bikini Bottom. Perfect for the young and old alike. The singing and dancing was awesome. Didn't want it to end. This ranks up there as one of my favorite musicals!

Awesome music shows off Bikini Bottom

by ChicagoILMom on 7/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Expectations were low coming in but this musical was a riot! The famous bands who wrote the songs did a fantastic job! The first part of the second half didn't seem to fit the rest of the show & hopefully they will improve the skateboarders (or don't use the skateboarders at all) on Broadway but the show came together at the end. It was fun, vibrate & holds the attention of kids & adults.

    Spongbib

by KathiKathi on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The creativity and music were amazing! We were septic all about going as we thought it was for little kids but my husband and I loved it. My 17 and 19-year old nephews thought it was great, too. I recommend this musical and we see a lot of musicals. I hope people go support the effort. The guest composers were fun to follow, too. Songs were written by different stars such as Aerosmith, lady annabellum, Yolanda Adams, white-T's, Sara B., etc. Fun! Go see it!

Loved the high-energy, insanely funny play with thrills and surprises at every turn of events. Could not have enjoyed it more...and we were not with kids!

    What the World Needs Now

by Keatyjoe on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The SpongeBob Musical was absolutely remarkable. It's a reminder that life can be pretty insane sometimes, but it's worth living. Every day has the potential to be the Best Day Ever. See this show before it closes!

For the kids, not adults like the show

by lauraloo22 on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We were a bit disappointed. The show is more for kids, albeit, a bit long for them. I was hoping for more "adult" humor, not dirty, but clever. It was missing the quirkiness and funny, clever lines of the tv show. Not that I wanted them repeated, but new ones. My husband & I thought the boxes that were used to depict climbing the volcano were confusing at first. I don't think they should have had fragile marked on their sides and it looked like they were in a storage area. We initially thought they were practicing for the climb. We also did not like Chop to the Top and agree that Pearl and Mr. Crabs characters need some work. I liked the Pirate and had high hopes when it started with him, but oh well. As for Plankton, either make him a puppet or a man, not both. I think a puppet would be better. Perhaps having a giant magnifying glass to see him. Also, maybe they could have put a fish bowl for breathing on Sandy's head like in the show. I think that someone who has never seen the tv show would be very confused about these characters. They need a little more added to their costumes like Squidwards tentacles. Give Sandy a bushy tail, make Pearl look more whalish, give Patrick some rays (arms) so he looks more starfishy.

    Cute show!

The show was very cute! Did a great job transferring characters from cartoon to stage. Wish there were more numbers like Squidwards tap dance.

Great set & fun songs. Delightful!

by mmse95 on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We brought our 3 sons, 12, 9, 7, to the musical thinking they would enjoy it and we would come along for the ride. The kids loved it, and so did we. All of your favorite Bikini Bottom characters were there and the actors channeled their personalities perfectly. The writers kept the great mix of kid appropriate material with hidden parent jokes that we have come to know and love about SpongeBob. The stage set up was colorful and inventive; there was always something to look at and the props were amazing. I only gave it 4 stars because the first half dragged a little; the second half was fast paced and the songs were awesome!

    Fun Show!

by kls4344 on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We went to this as an all adult family of four. It was engaging and fun. The cartoon characters of Sponge Bob verses the actors were spot on. The lighting and sounds were equally as good. I would definitely recommend this show to all age groups who love Sponge Bob!

    Great Musical

by DBN1 on 7/5/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Well, we chose this because it was my spouse's 49th birthday and we have a 6 year old and a teenager as well, but are new to the area and had no babysitter..thus the SPSP choice. So approached the evening with a bit of, " well how bad can it be...". We were pleasantly surprised and had an amazing evening. I want to know when the score will be available for purchase and really had a great evening. Highly recommend the show for anyone interested in a great lighthearted musical.

Amazing costumes, sets and high and low tech!

by knpc on 7/3/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I throughly enjoyed the upbeat and unbelievably creative world of the Spongebob musical! I am not familiar with the tv show, but listened to positive reviews to see this. Ethan Slater, who plays Spongebob, is wonderful, as is the rest of the cast. There is real, sincere heart in this show and it is a visual stunner. Families seemed to have a wonderful time!!! I didn't find the music to be memorable, but I left the theatre smiling.

    Fun

by Anonymous on 7/3/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Was not a Spongebob fan, but I semi-watched (drifting in and out of sleep) the movie back when on a flight and thought enough might be there (plus all the songwriters) to justify a trip to Chicago (full day's drive, expensive hotel etc.). Wife was very skeptical and expected to hate it. Even without knowing anything about more than the very top characters (and wife knowing even less, even though she complained about having to "watch" it with grandkids) it was so good and so much FUN that we took advantage of buy 1 get 1 free tickets to go back our last night in Chicago. Enjoyed it even more the second time (partly due to knowing the characters better). Would be nice if they gave more pre-info about the characters to Spongebob neophytes (at least descriptions in Playbill, images of the cartoon characters there or floating with the other fishes in pre-show curtain video). Hope it gets enough of an audience in New York, maybe a smaller house would help.
