    Not just a sponge

by RustyLJ on 7/10/16Oriental Theatre - Chicago

I was in awe from the moment we walked into the theater! The entire set was so elaborate and unique. It was one of the best sets I've ever seen! I wasn't sure what to expect from the show, but all the characters were spot on with their voices and portrayal of the characters. I couldn't believe all the acrobatics and creativity that went into the show. There were so many surprising moments and every scene was unique in it's own way. The music was very catchy and the story line was typical Spongebob-style! I really hope this show comes back because I will be going back if it does! It's fun for all ages!

    BEST DAY EVER

by Anonymous on 7/10/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This was like a great big colorful fun-filled party! When SpongeBob sang "Best Day Ever" and I looked around and saw "kids" of all ages grinning from ear-to-ear, I realized it really was the best day! The set was filled with bubbles of blues and greens and truly gave you the feeling of being under the sea. The lights were bright and exciting and held the interest of the youngest children. Moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas--whether you are an avid SpongeBob follower or not--it was just plain fun! My daughter is 17 and has loved SpongeBob her whole life. For her this was a dream come true! It was a blast--so much energy! Clever, funny, and true to the characters--it was wonderful. Hats off especially to Squidward and SpongeBob. You nailed it! We loved you guys! Also--Patrick was a hoot--loved his outfit. The appearance of Patchy the Pirate brought lots of laughs. Also noteworthy was the "announcer" in the rainbow suit--great voice and definitely added to the fun. The fact that the entire crew truly looked like they were having the time of their lives added to the magic of the show. Thanks for a memorable night!

    Spongebob the musical

by Mum101 on 7/10/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The show was highly entertaining. The set design, costumes and overall creative interpretation of the cartoon show. A little lagging in the middle, but it quickly returned with a wonderful dance and performance by Squidword. He stole the show. Fantastic.. kids (7-10 years) loved it as did the adults.

    Above and beyond expectations!

by MuTheaterGirl on 7/9/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

My 14-year-old daughter and I saw this show in Chicago and could not stop smiling and laughing through the whole thing. The songwriters are amazing, and somehow all those different styles felt cohesive in the show. The actors were completely committed to the characters. There are amazing costumes, sets, and sound effects to make it a fun spectacle. Lots of nods to the original series, too.

SpongeBob was very entertaining for the whole fam!

by Natalie0710 on 7/9/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The actor who played SpongeBob was born to play that role! He was fantastic & so believable. In fact, ALL the characters played the heck out of their roles! The costumes were dead on, especially Mrs. Puff's. The set really made you feel that you were in Bikini Bottom, while the narration made you feel you were actually watching the TV show. Amazing show! Very believable! Very entertaining! Very funny! Great show!

    Great Show for Kids

by Evanstonian on 7/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Despite various media reviews about the suitability of the show for everyone, it really is only for kids. The story line is strictly cartoon in character and only one musical number is memorable. Kids will love the show (ages 5-13); adults not so much.

My childhood artfully brought to life

by CasK1564 on 7/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The show was amazing. It was funny, VERY well cast, and had such thoughtful lyrics and costumes. The costumes really blew me away, especially Squidward. I was most amazed by the athleticism of Ethan Slater, the actor portraying SpongeBob. From doing the splits to weaving between small holes high above the stage, he was very impressive. His voice, as well as the voices of Gavin Lee(Squidward) and Emmy Raver-Lampman(Pearl) stood out to me as particularly both well cast and well acted. Overall, I loved every minute of it and can't wait to see it again!

Worth the drive from TN to visit Bikini Bottom!

by TNSpongebobFan on 7/6/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I've been a SpongeBob fan since 2000. It's amazing how they transformed the cartoon to the stage. The actors were awesome and the set design was on point! I can't wait to see what happens when the show moves to Broadway! Definitely a must see even if you are not a SpongeBob fan. You'll understand the meaning of the play even if you haven't seen the cartoon.
