THE MAVERICKS IN CONCERT:
Hot on the heels of their celebrated 2013 reunion, the Mavericks are back on the road and ready to rock with their unique brand of neo-country. Featuring the danceable rhythms of Latin music and a hearty helping of brass instruments, the Mavericks don't put on your typical mid-tempo country show. Quite the contrary, these guys like to move, and they expect â and receive â the same from their fans. The Mavericks had audiences on their feet dancing at their 2013 tour dates, and their live shows in 2014 are sure to inspire more of the same.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Miami in 1989, the Mavericks spent their early days in the city's punk and alternative scene, sharing bills with the likes of Marilyn Manson while developing their uniquely Miami-influenced brand of modern country. Following two early albums, the band hit their stride in 1994 with What a Crying Shame, which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and landed five singles on the country charts. 1996's Music for All Occasions would prove an even bigger success, scoring them a Top 20 country hit with "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" and a Grammy Award for "Here Comes the Rain." Following the band's split in 2004, lead singer Raul Malo released six solo albums before their eight-year hiatus came to an end with the 2012 announcement of a reunion album and tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Another remarkable performance of the Mavericks....Such great energy and the entire band generates the energy. Raul sounds like an angel with his beautiful voice."
"They were fabulous as usual! Their love of playing together is so obvious- they are joyful and sooo much fun. What a treat!"
"...I was blown away. What energy...there wasn't a person sitting in their seat...we were ALL up dancing. They played EVERYTHING! Two encores!"
Really enjoyed the Mavericks at the Orpheum. The theater was beautiful, the sound system excellent and the Mavericks on key and definitely enjoyed putting on a show.
These guys played a solid 2+ hours. Talented and a tight knit group considering there were a few "replacements", at least new to us. These guys check their egos at the door. They were there to put on a show and did not disappoint. Did not "mail in"one song. Played for the audience and for themselves. They obviously enjoyed preforming. Crowd was into it and the band fed off of them. When a band has fun, the shows are ALWAYS better. So glad we went. Note: The Audience. I've NEVER seen a crowd that got up to leave and return as much as this one. From the opening song to the encore. Nonstop. Kinda disrespectful to the performers and the rest of the patrons. The show deserved better manners.
The Mavericks are still kicking butt! The band is tight and seem like they are still having fun playing. Raul Malo's voice is still sweet and pitch perfect. I will definitely see them again!
It was a great show with wonderful musicians. Raul's voice is still strong with a good range. He went two hours without a break and with minimal chatter between songs. Smooth transitions from one song to the next. However, the volume and the drums at times were overwhelming, making it hard to distinguish the lyrics.
This was our first time seeing the Mavericks. Great show. Strait forward music! The Orpheum Theater in Madison is a great venue as well. I would see the Mavericks again and I would see another act at the Orpheum!
Love this band, 5th time seeing them, awesome musicians, awesome venue, awesome entertainment đ. Will continue seeing them everywhere that's possible.
Easy getting in and finding our seats. The Mavericks are simply a must see live. Great showmen with talent that exceeds expectations. Everything about this band is so unique and special that itâs hard to express sufficiently. We will go see them anytime we can. The Orpheum Theater maybe older but the sound is great, the seats as little tight but comfortable. Overall a very nice place to see a show.
I love The Mavericks! Their energy and their music. This was our third time seeing them in person and honestly, we were a little disappointed. They always do a great show, but this one we felt lacked a little of the energy of past shows (they've been on tour a long time, so they might just have been tired...get it) and it seemed to us they played too many songs that were new, and there were a lot of songs where the instrumental performances were showcased and they just went on too long. We missed hearing more of our older, favorite tunes from years past, but we also understand it must get very tiresome playing the same songs for years on end and wanting to play "new stuff", again, we get it. But you asked for my honest opinion and here is it. Good show, just left us a little disappointed. Now ask me if I'd buy another ticket for their next show in our area and I'd tell you in a "New York Minute"...so there's that!
We didn't want them to stop. A fantastic show. Hope they return.
At the Genesee Theater in Waukegan. Really enjoyed the band. They played some standards as ballads. It works. They also played songs from new album. Yea, I getting it. Sounded very good. I wasnât happy with mixing. Usually when backers, accordian, brass, timbas, etc play they are mixed forward. Not this time. Will we go to another Mavericks concert? You bet! Will go to another concert at Genesee Theater? Most definitely.
Nice venue. Restaurant and Bars right by the theater. The staff was great. A great place to see the Mavericks.
This group of musicians and vocalists have a great sound on a live stage that keeps getting better with each song.
A great high energy performance. I love the Mavericks
The four of us had never heard of them before but after checking out a YouTube video, bought tickets. This band is so much fun!!! And has so much talent!!! We can't quite find the words to describe their unique sound: Mexican/Zydeco/rock/??? We'd see them again!
9 very talented musicians including the incredible voice of lead singer Raul Malo. The band was having as much fun as their audience. McKinley James , the opening act was very good too. great evening
Raul Maloâs voice is like no other . God blessed him beyond words .
High energy band that after 20+ years still seems to be having fun on stage. We see them every time they come to our area
The sound was terrible. With the exception of the horns, you could not hear one note from the accordian or lead guitar. It's as if the sound was "off"everytime a solo from either was featured. Very dissapointing.
The venue was SAFE, CLEAN & COMFY! Of course, The Mavericks were beyond belief WONDERFUL. They added some new songs as well as the âoldâ popular songs! We hope to see them again soon!
If you get the chance to go see the Maverick's - do it! They are so energetic and the horns make the experience very special. They did an excellent rendition of Harvest Moon and really played to the audience.
