About

Potted Potter at The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about — you guessed it — Harry Potter

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

About the show Potted Potter

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character — including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named — with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

    LOL

by ShanShrop on 2/26/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

As a huge Harry Potter fan, this show was amazing. I haven't laughed so hard in a really long time. Given these past couple years, it was a bright shining part of a lovely trip to Vegas.

    One-note show that could use a re-write

by Valentino in the Desert on 2/25/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I’m sorry, guys. I don’t understand why you don’t apply some more music to the show - and singing. You were good at that. Maybe throw in a twist where the guy that plays all of the characters DOES KNOW a lot about one aspect of the show. Use some video. Up the budget. Hire a woman. Mix it up.

    Terrible Show

    by Chad on 2/22/22

Mostly just Toddler humor. Hard to imagine anyone over the age of 10 would like it. I thought it'd be like "the complete works of william shakepere" style, but it was more slapstick, poorly planned and weak. Seemed like they were going for minimal effort, and not in a cute high-school play kind of way. The theater in Vegas was smaller than my middle school's, probably because they can't fill anything else. Don't waste your time. Also, people think quiddich is fun in this, I disagree.

Aimed Toward Young Audience, Very Shtick Style Humor

by Allie on 2/22/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I definitely did not expect the style of show this would turn out to be. Two actors, consistently making the same joke, turning toward the audience, and waiting for laughter.. Or grab water guns and shoot them at the audience, as a joke. Not really so much telling the tale of Harry Potter, but more a high-energy comedy skit with a loose Harry Potter theme to it.. Very shtick humor, like falling down on the ground and waiting for laughter, kind of a similar vibe as the Fozzie Bear character. We eventually got a little more into the humor once we got past the initial shock of the comedy style, but if you're not going with kids, I don't think it's worth the amount of money you pay for it. It is 100% aimed toward a young audience, like elementary, MAYBE middle school age young. Once you get older than that, it's quite a bit cringe-y.

    Fantastic 70 minutes!

by Snarky Mark on 2/21/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Loved this show! This is definitely a tongue in cheek review/presentation of the Harry Potter world. Maybe a “serious” Potter fan might not enjoy it, but for me, it was downright funny. My wife said her cheeks hurt from laughing so much. It was a fun ride and the 2 actors were pretty darn good

    Great Fun Show

by B. C. on 2/17/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

excellent spoof on 7 epic Books/movies. Dan and Jeff where super entertaining, constantly making us laugh, and always including the audience as they played out all 7 stories using fun props. The only thing i think was missing is when playing out Dumbledore they should get a long white beard prop....

Perfect for any Harry Potter Fan

by UncrnLdy on 2/16/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Potted Potter was hysterical! It's a lot to take 7 novels and condense the into 70 short minutes, but Potted Potter does exactly that. The show is interactive, funny, and family friendly. My only regret was not going to see it sooner!

For the price of the ticket not great

by Varry on 2/6/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Felt like just a little better than a school production. Nothing like the London versions of Shakespeare in 60 minutes

    No no no

by Steve on 1/26/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Not what was expected. We left after 15 minutes of excuciatingly bad acting. More like a school production. We felt violated given the ticket prices, even for Vegas!

    Just Okay

by Trh on 1/5/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Geared more towards younger people. We were nit impressed. Reminded me of a storybook hour at the library. Even fir younger people, the $50 charge fir a ticket is way too much. Do not recommend.

    Potted Potter parking

by Tx4u on 12/1/21Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

The play was okay but I purchased the parking option. I also purchased the parking option and the barcode didn’t work and had to pay again for parking. I will discourage this option as the parking system may not align.
