Philadelphia Union History

The Philadelphia Union joined MLS for the 2010 season. They've been a regular in the U.S. Open Cup's later stages, including three runner-up finishes in 2014, 2015 and 2018. In the meantime, goalkeeper Andre Blake was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Year honors for a record three times (in 2016, 2020 and 2022).

In 2020, the club won their first Supporters' Shield for the best regular season record in MLS. After advancing to the 2022 MLS Cup Finals and ultimately falling to Los Angeles FC, the club placed third in the 2023 Leagues Cup tournament, automatically qualifying the club for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Union have played under head coach Jim Curtin since 2014.

    soccer in Jax

by LuckyRobyn on 2/17/13EverBank Field - Jacksonville

I loved that soccer came to Jax, it happen to be my husband's hometeam, and made the perfect Valentines gift for him. Granted it was preseason action and the score was 0-0, we still had a great time.

    security staff was ridiculous

by grinogloco on 8/16/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

The tickets were what I thought that they would be, as they were on the field. The ambience from the crowd was good as well. There were some problems that I had with how it was run. Since this was a soccer game, the Linc personnel seemed to treat it as an afterthought, since it was NOT Eagles football. The security was a bit ridiculous, bothering many people for nonsensical things, such as my bag being too close to the advertising boards on the field, (although on the grass and only obstructing myself if anyone), and not permitting people to hang signs on the railings, which is traditional at soccer games. With a World Cup bid looming and the potential to capitalize on the increasing amount of international teams that are touring the U.S., this attitude will surely result in lost opportunities for the Linc, as well as the greater Philadelphia area.

    Great Experience

by Big123 on 8/5/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

Man U didn't bring their A squad, but it still was well worth going to the match. The stadium was crowded, loud and enjoyable. A lot cheaper than flying to England to watch them play!

    Great Game

by Anonymous on 7/31/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

Great game except for some overally obnoxious fans. People need to be aware of their surroundings when there are kids around. This shouldn't be the reputation Philadelphia wants....but unfortunately has earned by some fans who can't control themselves.

Great game with hints of new talent...

by RedDevilTodd on 7/29/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

The Devils and Union put on a great game. Philly played well against a youthful side fielded by Sir Alex. It was great to a new MLS team gelling and the future stars of a premier EPL team. The stadium is very accommodating and open, plus easy to get to by transit.

    Glory, Glory Man United!

by Anonymous on 7/29/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

If ever attending an event at Lincoln Financial Field (especially if it is a Man U game) give yourself about 2 hours more than you think you will need. Traffic all around the Philadelphia area was at a stand still and getting into the Field took forever (missed almost all of the first half). Once inside though the atmosphere was electric, even though it was the home town for Philadelphia Union; Man U fans far out numbered Union fans. I ordered early and had great seats.

I took my two children to the game because of my son's favoite team Man United. We got the tickets the day they went on sale and planned a trip to Philly from the Boston area. He had a great time and meet many Man United fans.

    Like being at Old Trafford

by franksquatch on 7/24/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

The exhibition game on July 21 in Philadelphia between Manchester United and Philadelphia Union was a great game in an exceptional venue. Little bit of confusion between the ushers as to when gates would open, couldn't bring in my vuvuzela (at a soccer game? Really?),but apart from that, met some great fans and watched a well played game. All the red shirts really made it feel like you were at Old Trafford (United's stadium in England). Will definitely go next time they tour the U.S. Soccer fans of any club would not be disappointed in a game I saw Wednesday night. Highly, highly recommended.

Great game, arena, food, drinks....but those damn horns SUCK, would have given a 5 star except for the fact that we had to listen to horns all night that are not even allowed in the place!!!!

my son and i thought the game was excellent. we had great seats, and he saw his favorite team. would have liked to see more of the star players, but there were a few. the game was incredibly played by both teams and the stadium rocked every minute of play. good luck to the Union in the future, we look forward to seeing you play in your new stadium.

    A great match!

by njcocofan on 7/23/10Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia

Although I am one of the few Philadelphia Union fans, I was expecting Manchester United to mop the field with my team. Amazingly, the "Boys of Ben" held their own and played 92 minutes of Word Class Soccer and only gave up 1 goal for a 0-1 loss. Oh yeah...the facilities were very nice and clean as well and the fans were polite. (stop laughing...I'm serious!)
