About

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

    Khruangbin

by Giff on 8/5/22Artpark Outdoor Amphitheater - Lewiston

Artpark is a great venue, inviting, not huge, the bowl has a great view of the stage for all. Khruangbin is an amazing live show! What great music it is ...all from three people. First time seeing them, first time at Artpark. The crowd was very fun, warm, happy, and hippy. Guitar driven, with a strong drummer...this music really flows. You feel it in your body! Will easily find this band again and be present for another great time!

    The Khru Never Disappoints

by Frank S on 8/4/22Artpark Outdoor Amphitheater - Lewiston

This was my 2nd time seeing them this year, and they are always energetic and professional with their sets. Men I Trust opened and were REALLY good. They earned a ton of new fans after their performance here. Khruangbin came on and immediately turned it up to 11. Such great music and a lively crowd makes for an excellent experience. I highly recommend checking these guys out if you have a chance.

    by M&Edad on 7/21/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

My daughter and me went to the Greek Theater in Berkeley CA to see Khruangbin and had a most wonderful evening. The band and performance were remarkable. We will see this exceptional trio of musicians ANYTIME they are near us. Do yourself a favor and check them out. I have been rocking on this planet for 51 years and have seen all the beat rock bands. This was one of my favorite shows.

Everything about this show was fantastic

by Griff on 7/20/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

The opening act, Men I Trust, put on a great show. Brought the energy of the crowd up so when Khruangbin took the stage - it was all lit off. They sounded great, engaged with the crowd, played a variety of their catalog. This being the first live show I've seen in years, I was extremely happy they put all that effort into making it a great night.

AMAZING! Loved every second of it.

    by J. Boo on 7/20/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Men I Trust opened for them and they are a new group for me and I instantly fell in love. Khruangbin also blew me away with the simplicity of their gorgeous set, the immediate dive into music, the overall atmostphere (Berkeley crowd was amazing!). They sound just as amazing as their albums but with the added flare of mixes they throw into their songs. I was so pleasantly surprised with EVERYTHING.
