Kansas City Chiefs History

The Kansas City Chiefs were founded as the Dallas Texans in 1959 by businessman, sports pioneer and American Football League founder Lamar Hunt. The team moved to Kansas City before the 1963 season and were renamed the Chiefs. The team found success early on, winning three AFL championships in the 1960s to become the team with the most championships in the AFL. In 1970, the club joined the NFL when it merged with the AFL. That year, the team won its first AFL-NFL championship in Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings, beating them 23-7.

The Chiefs have had 25 individuals inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and have produced five Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award winners — tied with the Chicago Bears for the most of any team.

Head Coach Andy Reid joined the team in 2013, and under his leadership, the Chiefs have made the playoffs consistently. The club won the AFC West from 2016 to 2022 and clinched championship titles at Super Bowl LIV in 2020 and Super Bowl LVII in 2023.

Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium

Opened in 1972, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium has a capacity of 76,416. As one of the first stadiums developed after the AFL merged with the NFL, Arrowhead was a leader in stadium design. It introduced the use of arrows on the yard markers at the goal line (eventually becoming a requirement in the NFL), and was the first to be a part of the two-stadium Truman Sports Complex.

GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is also known to be one of the loudest stadiums in the league. In 2014, fans set a Guinness World Record for stadium noise, registering a sound of 142.2 decibels during a game against the New England Patriots.

    Memories That Matter

    by KimberlyC on 8/29/23

We had the best day ever! I attended the Chiefs vs Browns PreSeason with my Sister & 2 young Nephews. I'm a seasoned Chiefs Fan. However! It was their FIRST Chiefs game & 1st NFL Experience. The Chiefs did not disappoint! They got the "W"in classic Chiefs fashion ~ less than a minute to play. No better way to enjoy your 1st game than with Family & a Chiefs "WIN"! We made Memories that Matter that day. Go Chiefs!

    KC Preseason vs. Browns

    by CherBear on 8/29/23

Per the website, fountains are available to refill water (you can bring in one unopened 20 oz or less bottle of water) There are NO fountains. Instead, there are HARD TO FIND gatorade coolers near the very few, really spread out first aid stations. Coolers are set back in a small, dark hallway woth wheelchairs in front of them, next to the first aid stations. The prices of concessions are absolutely OUTRAGEOUS. Folks with limited incomes can't attend many games due to resale cost of tickets, parking, and concessions. It is sad, really.

    Loudest I've been to

    by JB on 5/24/23

I have been to many college and NFL stadiums and I must say, this is by far the loudest and best atmosphere that I have experienced. The fans are passionate yet respectful. It is hard to find a more historic or beautiful in the US.

You'll have the time of your life!

    by Krys on 5/16/23

Our family went to a game last year and it was AMAZING! We loved it so much that we'll be attending a game again this year too. Its the cleanest football stadium & facility we ever been to. The fans were great, the experience is awesome & the staff are super friendly & helpful with their "Fans First". Book a stadium tour! Its well worth it. Arrive 3-4 hours and try to park closest to the exit & pre-pay for your parking ticket in advance (it helps). Also stop by their fan shop!! We went the day before cause on game day it gets packed. Go Chiefs!!

    Great Venue

    by J. H. on 5/12/23

How about STMs buy a parking "toll gate" pass similar to the turnpike? It may save on labor and speed up the entrance process.

    One Downfall

by Jacquie on 2/1/23GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Overall GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is great! The only thing that's bad is that when there are cold games there are no heaters for people to warm up. If i could make a suggestion to Mr Hunt that would be to have this accommodation when there are games where the temps are really low. Even though people have tons of layers on i dont feel like your feet are ever warm from standing on the concrete. And most people if their feet are cold the rest of them is cold. Just a suggestion. But overall I love Arrowhead Stadium.

    COULD NOT PRINT PARKING TICKET

by Tiki on 1/24/23GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

I received my tickets quickly but my parking ticket would not print off. I had to call the KC CHIEFS off and tgey got it for me. Otherwise I would have wasted $57 with Ticketmaster. It would not print off on their site.

    Defense in the fourth quarter

A fumble and an interception in the fourth quarter sent long hair and company to the locker room.

    Incredible

by Texas Twosome on 1/8/23GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

We won tickets for Chiefs vs Broncos game on Jan. 1, 2023. We made plans immediately to attend our first NFL game. Due to the holidays and uncertainty of airline dependability, we drove from TX to KC with an overnight stop in Oklahoma City. Weather was perfect, crowd was enthusiastic, and game was great. The people within the stadium who were there to help "newbies" like us were easily identified and welcoming, answering questions in a helpful way. The whole experience couldn't have been better. My husband just said he'd do it again!

Great game, great stadium, awful parking!!

by NicB on 1/4/23GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Get to the game 3/4 hours early. Parking is a shambles. Queued for hours and still missed KO! Exiting is just as difficult due to a bottleneck over the only pedestrian bridge!

    Excellent Game

Strongly believe there are no bad seats in the building. We just sat in the very back row and still had great seats and view!!!

    Great, but…

by Josh on 12/27/22GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

The Chiefs are awesome, but Ticketmaster sucks. Like really bad. They live off sucking the fun out of naturally fun events.

    Parking Fiasco

by Lar & Von on 12/27/22GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Parking at the Chiefs stadium is an awful mess. It is mind-boggling that a better system cannot be established there. My wife is handicapped and from Red Lot L there is no really great way to get from the lot to the stadium itself. I love the live experience, but the aggravation of getting in and out is making me rethink attending games there. If major theme parks like Disney World can get this right, professional sports teams can too. Other than that, I enjoyed the games and spectacle of the event.

    Best Tailgating Ever!

by Chiefs Fan on 11/16/22GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

If you love football in general, and you don't have to be a Chiefs fan, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is on of the BEST places to tailgate, meet new people and watch football. The amount of people that show up four hours before the games starts is a site to see. If you don't believe me, just check it out for yourself.

    Great Time Great Game

by dgbpickles on 11/9/22GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

The purchase of the tickets and parking pass went smoothly. Had no issues at all. Was able to add the tickets and parking pass to my apple wallet. They scanned great at the gate and to get into the game. Thanks,
