Iowa State Cyclones at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium
A Big 12 Conference member since 1996, Iowa State is one of the oldest college football programs in the Midwest. The Ames-based team has appeared in 14 bowl games, including a 2017 Liberty Bowl victory over the Memphis Tigers, and won two conference championships. Iowa State's head coach is Matt Campbell, who has held that position since 2016 and won Big 12 Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.
The Cyclones play at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium, a 61,500-capacity venue named after Iowa State's first black athlete. The stadium experience offers several beloved traditions, such as a circa-1890 victory bell ringing after wins and a tornado siren that wails in celebration of home field achievements.
Iowa State Cyclones Football History
Iowa State's football program coalesced in 1892 as an independent team, when the school was still known as Iowa Agricultural College. The Cyclones joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1908, and stayed with the conference throughout name changes, including to the Big Eight. One of the team's earliest head coaches was Pop Warner, the future founder of the youth football program that bears his name. Other notable head coaches include Earle Bruce, who later found great success at the Ohio State University, and Dan McCarney, who led the Cyclones to five bowl games in the 2000s. Notable Cyclones alums include running back Troy Davis, a 1996 Heisman Trophy finalist and College Football Hall of Famer who holds multiple Iowa State rushing records, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, the school's all-time career receptions leader.
Iowa State boasts multiple long-standing rivalries dating back more than a century. Every year, the team faces cross-state foe the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, where the winner of the game earns control of the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The two teams first met in 1894, but made the match-up an annual affair starting in 1977. Since 1917, Iowa State has also squared off annually against longtime conference rival the Kansas State Wildcats.
Always a fun atmosphere as they have made a lot of improvements to the complex! Sooners won so that made it great!
There were 3 of us coming to the game & 1 in our group couldn’t come. So I brought my mother-in-law who had to be in a wheelchair. So they were great enough to swap our 3 tickets for 3 ADA seats! The supervisor that helped us was so great. I can’t remember her name, but she over saw the whole west side of suites! Great, great service! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
I was really at the isu football game to watch the marching band, but always love the venue and the game. Great athletes.
It was great to attend the Cyclone vs Oklahoma State U game on Saturday! Our seats were in the second deck, Section W Row 14. Even though they were higher up, they were fantastic! We were on the 45 yardline and the veiw was perfect! The game was very exciting! Although, the Cylcones lost, they showed up to play. Facilities were very clean and food is good. I will attend again! Good luck Cyclones!
Seems refs wanted OSU win! Gr8 game! ISU rocked!! Loved everything about it but refs and lousy calls against ISU it to favor OSU to what felt like make sure OSU won.
Not a bad seat in the house. Great game and great year to go.
Great venue. Only issue is concessions speed but I got stuff from a minor stand that wasn’t to bad.
This game was so much fun! Great day to be a Cyclone!!!
Horrible lines for restrooms and concessions. You had to choose between missing the game or getting in line. Security way overdone for this type of event. I have no interest in returning to this venue and would not recommend it to anyone else.
The Cyclones are a great team with a fine coach but allow extra time before the game because the place is downright rude to anyone who isn’t a season ticket holder. There isn’t any parking for you and if it is raining they close the few public lots they have. A thorn to Pollard for poor parking
I attended the Iowa State Uni. versus Uni. of Northern Iowa game on Sept. 2, 2017. The game was at 7:00 pm. We rode the bus (CyRide) from my son's apartment, and walked to the stadium area. The bus cost $1.25 each way because I didn't have a student ID. We tailgated with his friends before the game. Everyone I encountered was friendly and pumped for the game. There were acres and acres of tailgaters, but I didn't witness anything out of hand. I saw a security presence, and they all seemed to be intent on scanning the crowds. Jack Trice is an impressive stadium. It was a beautiful night for a game, and the stadium seemed packed--it was very energetic in there! I sat in the student section with my son and his friends and the people we were seated near were intent on the game, having fun, but respectful. The bands each performed during halftime, and then performed together! At the end of the third quarter, the stadium all sang along to "Sweet Caroline". I'll always remember that--what a cool experience to be there. I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Jack Trice--outside and inside the stadium. So glad I was there!
Great atmosphere at Jack Trice stadium! Always a great time for the family no matter the score of the football game.
We had a great time. Even though they lost, it was still a fun day. Our seats were great!
Loved spending time watching the game with family and friends.
Went to the San Jose State vs IA State game and seats were good! Love the atmosphere of being at the game! Good time
Going to the game was so much fun. The weather, the atmosphere, the food, it was all amazing. We were so, so close to winning. But unfortunately the Panthers passed us. However, I am still giving it five stars because it was fun to go to, and it brought down my best friend because she's going to UNI.
Night game with great atmosphere, great weather, great game
Awesome and somewhat unexpected outcome for the Cyclones. Defense was ROCK SOLID. May have also found a QB.
Great environment. Good tickets. Everything was perfect. Halloween night and the costumes worn by the students added that much more.
It is always fun to go watch our Cyclones! We will obviously go again.
