About

Iowa State Cyclones at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium

A Big 12 Conference member since 1996, Iowa State is one of the oldest college football programs in the Midwest. The Ames-based team has appeared in 14 bowl games, including a 2017 Liberty Bowl victory over the Memphis Tigers, and won two conference championships. Iowa State's head coach is Matt Campbell, who has held that position since 2016 and won Big 12 Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.

The Cyclones play at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium, a 61,500-capacity venue named after Iowa State's first black athlete. The stadium experience offers several beloved traditions, such as a circa-1890 victory bell ringing after wins and a tornado siren that wails in celebration of home field achievements.

Iowa State Cyclones Football History

Iowa State's football program coalesced in 1892 as an independent team, when the school was still known as Iowa Agricultural College. The Cyclones joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1908, and stayed with the conference throughout name changes, including to the Big Eight. One of the team's earliest head coaches was Pop Warner, the future founder of the youth football program that bears his name. Other notable head coaches include Earle Bruce, who later found great success at the Ohio State University, and Dan McCarney, who led the Cyclones to five bowl games in the 2000s. Notable Cyclones alums include running back Troy Davis, a 1996 Heisman Trophy finalist and College Football Hall of Famer who holds multiple Iowa State rushing records, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, the school's all-time career receptions leader.

Iowa State boasts multiple long-standing rivalries dating back more than a century. Every year, the team faces cross-state foe the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, where the winner of the game earns control of the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The two teams first met in 1894, but made the match-up an annual affair starting in 1977. Since 1917, Iowa State has also squared off annually against longtime conference rival the Kansas State Wildcats.

Tickets were what I expected. But it is hard to see the whole field from the hillside.

    Rigged Football Game

by HonestAudienceMember on 10/6/13Iowa State Cyclones - Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

I would like a refund from the Big 12 Conference. I did not understand that the refs had already decided that tu was supposed to win the game. The number of questionable calls and the obvious wrong calls made for an unpleasent experience. I do not expect to attend or watch a tu game again. Other than that, the facilities are nice. The food service was the best I had ever experienced by far. The audience was mature about the corrupt officiating.

    Arrowhead ticketmaster

    by ck24coach on 2/7/11Arrowhead - Kansas City

Arrowhead is a fantastic venue that is clean with a great staff. My constructive criticism is for ticketmaster. Could you add a choice that includes a request for seats in lower or higher rows? I would give up proximity to the 50 yard line in order to be lower in the upper deck. I would also give up proximity to the 50 to be in higher rows in the lower level.

    Arrowhead College Game

by GMK01 on 9/21/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

We won. That was great. The parking situation at Arrowhead for this game was AWFUL. Really bad. Too stupid for words. Does anyone ever think about this?? I would not hold further college games at Arrowhead unless and until they do the parking properly.

by Wangtree on 9/21/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

It was Hot and humid-no big deal except the seats were for tiny people. Thank goodness the row in front of us was empty so we could spread out and enjoy the game. Chiefs need to update those old tiny seats!!!!

by johnah1947 on 9/20/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

for the second time in a row the ksu isu college football game at arrowhead stadium in kansas city provided a terrific college football game. this year and last year the games went down to the wire before they were decided. sure got our money's worth for both games. the atmosphere was terrific and both fan bases were friendly and i saw no problems with either ksu or isu fans. kudos to all who put on the game as well as to those in attendance.

    KSU/ISU game

by Mike1675 on 9/20/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Excellent game. Love college football and this is another opportunity Arrowhead provides to see some good college games. We do them all and always enjoy the experience. Was shocked and disappointed at the price of parking for this game. $25 is a real rip off for a game like this.

    Darn HOT!!!

by sassysally50001 on 9/20/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Had a wonderful time. Great camaraderie! Clean bathrooms, fast moving consessions stands. Only downer was some of the stands removed the twist tops off of the water, while you could keep them if you purchased the water in the stands.

    Cats were amazing!

by CatFanKalinda on 9/20/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

It was great, D. Thomas is the man!! 184 yards? He is a beast! Heisman anyone? The event was not to crowded, parking was great. Arrowhead could open the gates even earlier if they wanted to for this awesome event. I know I speak for the Cats fans out there when I say that Bill Snyder is the best coach ever and we are so happy to have him back. Go Cats and I love this season so far.

    K-State at new Arrowhead

by KCPurple on 9/20/10Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City

Great game; great stadium. Too bad there is not enough animosity toward Iowa State to inspire a rivalry, so it seems doubtful this venue will continue for the annual meeting. However, I was impressed with the stadium improvements and the Chiefs' staff were excellent.
