About

Iowa State Cyclones at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium

A Big 12 Conference member since 1996, Iowa State is one of the oldest college football programs in the Midwest. The Ames-based team has appeared in 14 bowl games, including a 2017 Liberty Bowl victory over the Memphis Tigers, and won two conference championships. Iowa State's head coach is Matt Campbell, who has held that position since 2016 and won Big 12 Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.

The Cyclones play at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium, a 61,500-capacity venue named after Iowa State's first black athlete. The stadium experience offers several beloved traditions, such as a circa-1890 victory bell ringing after wins and a tornado siren that wails in celebration of home field achievements.

Iowa State Cyclones Football History

Iowa State's football program coalesced in 1892 as an independent team, when the school was still known as Iowa Agricultural College. The Cyclones joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1908, and stayed with the conference throughout name changes, including to the Big Eight. One of the team's earliest head coaches was Pop Warner, the future founder of the youth football program that bears his name. Other notable head coaches include Earle Bruce, who later found great success at the Ohio State University, and Dan McCarney, who led the Cyclones to five bowl games in the 2000s. Notable Cyclones alums include running back Troy Davis, a 1996 Heisman Trophy finalist and College Football Hall of Famer who holds multiple Iowa State rushing records, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, the school's all-time career receptions leader.

Iowa State boasts multiple long-standing rivalries dating back more than a century. Every year, the team faces cross-state foe the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, where the winner of the game earns control of the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The two teams first met in 1894, but made the match-up an annual affair starting in 1977. Since 1917, Iowa State has also squared off annually against longtime conference rival the Kansas State Wildcats.

    5-Star Family Fun

by WilHei on 10/5/21ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

Took my family (parents, brother and his family/kiddos) to the game on Saturday. It was our first time back in 'The Jack' since 2019. The stadium improvements are even more impressive in-person, the event atmosphere was great, and the band even decided to play some tunes from the steps leading to our seats early in the 2H. All in all it was a wonderful experience made even better by sharing it with loved ones. One piece of advice for future attendees - our seats - NW Corner on the 2nd level (Section W) were kind of close to the speakers for the video board and we were well aware of our proximity by the end of the game (i.e. it was quite noisy) would 10/10 recommend bringing ear muffs for little ones, I know my nieces (ages 7 and 8 months) were glad they had something to cover their ears on more than one occasion.

    ISU vs Kansas Football

by J. R. on 11/26/19ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

Not enough Kansas fans came, so we had to sit by the Kansas marching band, who had to PLAY all the time. Section 25 is next to the opposing teams seats, be aware of that.

Everything was very handy with the app. They let me know the game was postponed via the app and email. I didn't have to worry about remembering tickets, they were right on my phone. Would use this again!

    Great Time

by ISU Go Cyclones! on 9/24/19ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

This was our first game at Jack Trice. We had a great time with our boys who both attend Iowa State University. Can’t wait to go back for the game against TCU. The grass parking lots were closed because of the rain that had fallen all week, but the university made sure they opened other lots to accommodate the fans. Great time, great facility, and great football game! GO CYCLONES! 🌪

Had a great time at this event. The seats were great and the people around us as well. It was difficult to understand the official on the field. Microphone was muffled or something.

by Tcubed3 on 10/16/18ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

Tickets were awesome. The place was electric. A friendly environment. The new TVs located at both ends of the field assist in seeing all the action capturing all the replays. Although the place was packed the number of bathrooms and food stations moved quickly minimizing the amount of missed time watching the game. The only negative is the parking. Many of the grass fields were not available due to the recent rains. We had a long walk to get to the stadium and our seats, although the price was right - $0.

    Awesome Experience

by ListerL on 9/26/18ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

The process was flawless. Ticketmaster was professional and easy. I would recommend downloading tickets before you arrive as the service for different phone carriers might be lacking. I also don't think there is a bad seat in the house. So if you have never been here, don't worry...all the seats are good!

Great stadium staff, so helpful. And the friendliest, most fun crowd in sports. ISU can be so proud of their fans. The Cyclone marching band is sensational! The biggest university marching band in the world, I'd say. This Jack Trice game day atmosphere is absolutely the top!
