Iowa State Cyclones at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium
A Big 12 Conference member since 1996, Iowa State is one of the oldest college football programs in the Midwest. The Ames-based team has appeared in 14 bowl games, including a 2017 Liberty Bowl victory over the Memphis Tigers, and won two conference championships. Iowa State's head coach is Matt Campbell, who has held that position since 2016 and won Big 12 Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.
The Cyclones play at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium, a 61,500-capacity venue named after Iowa State's first black athlete. The stadium experience offers several beloved traditions, such as a circa-1890 victory bell ringing after wins and a tornado siren that wails in celebration of home field achievements.
Iowa State Cyclones Football History
Iowa State's football program coalesced in 1892 as an independent team, when the school was still known as Iowa Agricultural College. The Cyclones joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1908, and stayed with the conference throughout name changes, including to the Big Eight. One of the team's earliest head coaches was Pop Warner, the future founder of the youth football program that bears his name. Other notable head coaches include Earle Bruce, who later found great success at the Ohio State University, and Dan McCarney, who led the Cyclones to five bowl games in the 2000s. Notable Cyclones alums include running back Troy Davis, a 1996 Heisman Trophy finalist and College Football Hall of Famer who holds multiple Iowa State rushing records, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, the school's all-time career receptions leader.
Iowa State boasts multiple long-standing rivalries dating back more than a century. Every year, the team faces cross-state foe the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, where the winner of the game earns control of the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The two teams first met in 1894, but made the match-up an annual affair starting in 1977. Since 1917, Iowa State has also squared off annually against longtime conference rival the Kansas State Wildcats.
The weather was gorgeous and we had a wonderful time! Great ISU win!
Had a packed stadium, first game of the season, new seating at the south Endzone! Amazing atmosphere, good game overall!
The South End zone could use some work. I've seen better
The seats were great. The weather was awesome. And the first 1/2 of the game was very enjoyable. Wish ISU could finish better. The biggest disappointment is that is was $20.00 to park. And I mean a long way from the stadium. There really weren't any options. I can park free when I go to the Men's BB games at ISU. I expected to pay something, but at the worst $10.00 or so. $20.00 is outrageous!
Weather was a little chilly. Good Atmosphere and good game!
Great game! WRECK'EM. Parking was easy as well as traffic.
The crowd was great - everyone was really into the game and even though they lost it was a wonderful time.
Enjoyed watching my beloved Oklahoma Sooners against my nephew's new school, Iowa State. The seats, while in the upper deck, were just fine as there isn't a bad seat in the house at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, IA.
This stadium is a fantastic facility with great sight-lines and large concourses. The scoreboard's big screen and sound were awesome. The staff was courteous and the traffic was well organized. I am looking forward to attending another game in Ames.
Everything was so much fun!!! The tailgating, the game, the seats, everything was really great.
Die hard fans, fantastic tailgating, old school football stadium great place to watch a football game!
Big 12 Football is awesome! On any given Saturday, any team could win the game as evidenced by the K-State vs Iowa State game! The ticket was great; good view of field and activities! Definitely will go again!
A very exciting game on a beautiful fall day! The seats were a great location.
getting tickets purchased was a bit hectic, exa filling out passwords, timed transaction ,etc got hectic for me so leave yourself enough time Able to print tickets off internet easy and worked well getting into ballgame. Tickets turned out better than my expectations One concern was 5 tickets left in row , I needed 4 and would not let me buy 4 had to buy all 5...
Seat was fantastic. Sat amongst season ticket holders and everyone was very friendly. I had a great time!
Though cyclones lost the game, but the atmosphere was incredible!
Fans were nice but bison won so i can not complain!
Always a pleasure when this happens and it was a delight to see the Bisons take it to the big time Cyclones. The lack of public parking took me my surprise as I had no idea the rains had limited what was available. Looking back, don't know how I could have learned in advance as I did not have computer capability with me. It was a close call making the kick-off as it was a challenge to find a spot on the street. However, the game made it all worthwhile.
Very good game but really, really cold! A good turnout under the circumstances.
Should have reduced number of TV timeouts because of the frigid temp.
