About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

A once in a lifetime experience

Great production. I can still visualuze the actors and stage. So memorable! Wobderful experience inspite of the uncomfortable seats. (Tighter than economy airline seats).

    3rd time, not my favorite

by d. r. on 12/11/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I saw the show during previews and that same year in November. It was all the original cast and it was phenomenal. The only cast member who was different was the king. Andrew Rannells took over briefly for Jonathan Groff. They were both good and I was glad to see both because I like both actors. This cast was good. Hamilton and his son were played expertly. As was the whore and all the background dancers. The ones I thought were lacking were Aaron Burr and Angelica. These are 2 very important parts. Unfortunately, they were a no for me. Also, Lafayette's French accent was difficult to understand and was too fake. Kind of ruined my experience this time around. With that being said,it truly is an amazing production and a great experience. Everyone should be in the room where it happens at least once in their life.

    Horrible view

by Grandpa on 12/10/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Show was good for what I did see. I had a very large person sitting in front of me and he literally blocked the entire stage and my view was totally obstructed. Not anyone’s fault but I wasn’t happy since I waited 2 years to see this show.

    Once in a Lifetime

by Samantha on 12/9/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I bought my brother tickets for his birthday. We live in Florida so we had to plan a little weekend trip to NY. A costly trip but 100% worth it for this show, alone. We saw the show @8pm on December 6th. Absolutely incredible. The cast was phenomenal. Washington was my favorite, Burr was my brothers. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Iglehart as the genie so it was really fun being able to see him kill his roles in a different production this time! Overall, 10/10 would recommend. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience for us and we could not have been more impressed. Outstanding. Huge thank you to the cast for making our night unforgettable!

Terrible Venue...be prepared to be uncomfortable for 3 hours

by jcestepp on 12/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

My low rating is mainly for the venue and not the performance. Music was good....not great (tough to understand the lyrics at times). Above average show however I will not return due to the venue. We had aisle seats in the 3rd mezzanine...center of stage. Seats are very small with almost zero legroom....makes for an uncomfortable 3 hours watching a show. Your knees will touch the seat in front of you when you sit down. Found out there was no coat check in the theater so I had to hold my wool trench coat in my lap the entire show. Also, bathrooms in the basement do not help. No elevator in the building either

by G. G. on 12/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

My wife and I have learned so much about our countries history by seeing Hamilton in Phila. We loved it so much, we re-booked in NYC. I wish it were not so expensive or we would see it over and over.

    Incredible

by A. Y. on 12/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I’ve seen Hamilton before and was every bit as blown away as the first time. My daughter had been waiting to see it for over a year and this was her Christmas gift. She loved every minute of it. The theater is beautiful and the seats are on a greater incline than most theaters so for someone short like me, or a child, we had a perfect view.

    Worth Every Penny!

by Wendy on 12/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The theater is centrally located near Times Square and is easily accessible. The show is a musical history lesson that grabs your attention and never lets go even though you know how it ends. I think the tickets are certainly pricey; however, the music and story telling are well worth it. We sure couldn't "say no to this"!

My nieces have a memory that will last a life time!

by MAROD on 12/7/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I had the privilege to take my wife for the second time once in Seattle finally in N.Y. Two different casts same excellent performances. I also took two of my nieces (both adults) who live in N.Y. that wanted to see it but couldn't get tickets. I only wish that I could video the look of amazement and joy on their faces as they watched. The only problem that I have now is that the rest of my nieces and nephews along with their parents want me to take them as well. :)
