About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

    Hamilton

I had a very difficult time understanding the extremely fast talking rap. I felt lost in the story. Very Very disappointed

    The day is finally here

by Jon on 12/7/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The show was better than all the hype. All performers were top. Seats were bought 10 months in advance and although I had to pay way over the ticket price we sat 10th and center. Very happy with the experience as a whole.

The King Has No Clothes But Everyone Says He Does

by S. on 12/7/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

You may like this play if you love rap music...have a fairly significant understanding of who Andrew Hamilton was and what he did (or didn't do)...and/or have never seen a Broadway show before.

    Amazing show

by Kelley on 12/7/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Hamilton was as wonderful as I’d heard. Highly recommend. The talent of the actors was overwhelming and the theatre is beautiful, although it is a very tight fit in those seats. No extra room beside or in front of you at all. I’d definitely advise checking coats if that’s an option. I would see Hamilton again in a heartbeat! Wonderful way to learn a little history and enjoy in such a unique way!!

    Excellent!

by Rhonda on 12/6/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I’ve seen many broadway shows over the years. I have to say I was a little skeptical hearing that it was done mostly in rap. It was by far the best show I’ve ever seen! Truly worth the money!

Only negative was the discomforting experience

by Ed on 12/6/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Not enough leg room. I had to place my feet in aisle and sit sideways

    "An Amazingly Brilliant Production"

by SpiceBrown on 12/5/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

It was a wet, cold, miserable day in NYC however, seeing Hamilton for the 2nd time was absolutely worth it. In fact, given the right opportunity I would happily go and see it a 3rd time. The story line, music (orchestra and singing), and acting are spectacular. Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius and a gift to humanity!

    Seats

by LadyM on 12/4/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The play was excellent and we had excellent, but the leg room while sitting needs to be improved. I realize the theater is trying to squeeze as many people in as possible but please try to make watching a play as expensive as Hamilton a little more comfortable. My knees would appreciate it. Please take this into consideration when and if the theater gets renovated.

    Musical History

by Ellencoo on 12/4/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Surprised my 12 and 15 year old grandkids. An awe inspiring experience. And to see it where it was born. WOW! The only negative was the price. So many more people deserve to see this and can’t because of the outrageous price.

    Lives Up To The Hype

by CanuckDA on 12/4/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Loved the music, the performances, the story. So well done. A joy to watch. Such talent on stage. Highly recommend you listen to soundtrack and read about the play before attending to get the most out of fast-paced musical numbers.

    Disappointed.

by Prof1 on 12/4/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

While play was good some of the actors did not speak clearly. Seats were too tight. During intermissions the stairs and lobby were too congested to move.or even get to the restrooms. It was very uncomfortable.

One of the Best on Broadway

by C. Ruben Castro on 12/3/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

My favorite Broadway play use to me Les Miserable. As with Les Mis, I have seen Hamilton twice, once at the Kennedy Center in DC and more recently on Broadway and it has become my new favorite. The story, the music and the performance makes it a great experience. Lin-Manuel Miranda took highlights from Alexander Hamilton's history and created this masterpiece. The performances are great and the sound track is worth owning. I loved every minute of it. I took my wife in DC and my two adult children on Broadway. Now, we are all fans. I saw his first play on Broadway, In the heights, before Lin Miranda was a house hold name and he has topped himself. I would love to see his current project, Love Style Supreme, given the opportunity.

    Great show

by Dale on 12/3/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I wasn't sure what to expect about a show that used rap in its presentation. It was a great show. Enjoyed watching it in NYC.

    Fantabulous

by BG on 12/3/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

3 generations spent the holiday week in Boston and New York and this unbelievable musical theater experience will be with each of us for a lifetime! We were delighted by the welcoming staff at each service point, greeters, security, box office, ushers, shop, f&b and were stunned as we left the theater to encounter Alexander AND Aaron signing autographs and allowing pics when they probably wanted most to snack and sip before the evening show. Their professional example and talents are amazing... and then there was George, la-ti-dah...dah, di, dah...

    OH. EM. GEE.

by Meghan on 12/3/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I knew going into the show that it would be great. I have been listening to the original cast recording for years. When Aaron Burr came on stage and started his opening line, I swear I immediately got tears in my eyes. Throughout the entire show I found myself totally mesmerized by how talented the cast was, how purposefully they used the stage and limited props, and totally fell in love with the transitions that are left out of the cast recording that I was so familiar with. The second act took me through a whole range of emotions and left me in tears at the very end. So, so good. I will be seeing this again!

    Great performance!

by Nan on 12/3/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

As expected the performance was great! We were in the balcony and had an awesome view of everything. My only criticism - more of the theater itself than the show is that given the restrooms are on the lower level and that during intermission there IS a conga-line of people waiting to use the bathrooms, the intermission should be slightly extended OR HAVE MORE RESTROOMS available. The show was perfect - a must see!
