About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

    Fantastic Experience

A fabulous show that appealed to everyone in our group, even the people that don’t like theatre!

    Excellent cast and outstanding performance

by mcmentor on 12/21/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I have been blessed to see Hamilton with the original cast and then again a year later with a follow-up cast, and now this past week. The score and script are fantastic, and you do not need to "like rap music" to love this one-of-a-kind experience. The current cast includes a grittier street-wise Hamilton and ensemble performers who are standouts. I found James Monroe Iglehart to be a joy (but I am kind of a fangirl when it comes to him since his showstopper days as the genie in Aladdin). Ensemble performer "Charles Lee" (Giuseppe in real life) is a breathtaking dancer and mesmerizing to watch. If possible to score orchestra tickets for the show, ROWS K, L, M in the center offer amazing stadium seating without the fear of a head in front of you.

    OUTSTANDING!

by Dee on 12/21/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

From the first minute to the last minute on stage, the show was fantabulous!!! Each and every actor was perfect for their role and even dual roles. The King was especially funny, his voice gorgeous, his demeanor just perfect! I’ve never seen so many talented actors on one stage. OMG! Great show. Thank you all!

    Stunning

by Mick on 12/21/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The show is wonderful—acting, singing, story. Even the dancing seemed perfect. My only complaint is my “partially” obstructed view cut off the top half of the set. Really for 550$, that’s total bulls#^*.

    Unbelievable

by Sharlzed on 12/21/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

A wonderful production - even for those who are not familiar with American history. The writing and music is superb, the choreography brilliant and the performers themselves outstanding. A brilliant mix of comedy and drama. So good it bought tears to my eyes and we have it a standing ovation (along with everyone else in the theatre)

    Blown Away

Wonderful performances by all. Enjoyed every second despite the unfortunate medical emergency in the audience. The actors handled it with professionalism and skill. Kudos.

    Great Performance

by Mark on 12/18/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

We just saw Hamilton for the second time. Amazing and fun - again. Having learned the words and all the melodies, we really had a blast this time (first time was amazing too) and even got to meet some of the main cast (Hamilton, Jefferson, Eliza, etc.) at the end. Highly recommended even if you have seen it. Fun time for all ages.

Finally, a dream come true for my wife

by NDiehl4 on 12/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

So I saved, and saved, and saved, but I was able to buy my wife and I tickets to see the show in NY on a Saturday evening (Date Night Supreme!) Although we were one row from the top, we had a great view, the sound was great and could still see facial expressions of the actors. We waited around after the show by the stage door outside and the leads came out and signed autographs like its a regular thing. Ive never heard my wife so excited about a musical before. I usually fall asleep somewhere during the lull in plot, but I was riveted the whole time. I must admit I didn’t know every lyric that she did, but it was fantastic and I will definitely try the lotteries to get another chance to see it.

Brought kids and all: Amazing music, amazing performance

by JGovi on 12/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I took my family of 4 including 2 kids ages 12 and 10 and we all loved it. The music was fantastic (if you like R&B/hip-hop), the story an American classic, and performed by excellent performers. There were a couple curse words but nothing my kids haven't heard before.

    Over hype and over priced

by Sleepless on 12/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I watched the original on TV. It was so rich and dramatic. I was eager and forked over $500 to see the live show. I was disappointed. (On the same week, I watched Oklahoma!, West side story, Marriage of Figaro (opera). They were FANTASTIC and enjoyable. I knew that I was not so picky and hard to please.) The sound system was TOO loud for a small theater. It hurt my ear. Stage was the same. Nothing too special. Original casts had all moved on to do better thing. The replacements were lifeless. Singing heads. They were not into the story themselves. How can we?It was supposed to be a political comedy. Nope. I was not entertained. Don't waste your money. Be satisfied to watch your version on TV at a factional cost.

    Tough to understand

by S. O. on 12/16/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I had a hard time hearing exactly what they were saying while doing the rap portions. The words come so fast and in a way that made it difficult for me to make out and understand. I had to listen real hard to hear what they were saying, I never did get all of it and that in my opinion detracted from my ability to enjoy the play overall. When it was singing, that was fine. The set was good, the costumes excellent, the overall story was good, but I just had a tough time staying with the plot due to the tough time I had understanding their rapping. I guess I am getting old, but monotone yelling of words real fast with no normal pauses like in typical English isn't my thing. I was a little disappointed as I had heard so much about Hamilton. I guess I figured that if they used rap, it would be slow enough where you could understand all the words.

    Just wow

by T. D. on 12/15/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

We saw Hamilton on Thursday evening... after listening to all the hype the last few years we weren’t sure what to expect. Sometimes there is so much hype around something that it tends to disappoint. That was not the case with this show. From the moment it began until the moment it ended my wife and I were enthralled. No lulls to bring the energy down. Just a consistent build throughout the show that culminates in a perfect ending. Hands down the best musical I’ve ever seen. It was absolutely worth the money.

    A magical night

by Heidi on 12/13/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I prepared myself for Hamilton by reading Ron Chernow’s book and listening to the soundtrack of the musical for almost 3 months. I learned the lyrics of all songs. Not word by word but good enough. Therefore I could watch more what was going on on stage and observed everybody. It was magic. I was mesmerized.

    A dream fulfilled

by n. s. on 12/13/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Finally! I have been wanting to see Hamilton since it began, and it did NOT disappoint! This cast had several standouts and I loved it from beginning to end. If I was just commenting on the show it would be 5++++ stars! One issue though, which accounts for the 4 star rating. The seating (at least in the mezzanine where we were) is very tight and INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. There is NO legroom at all, even for me and I'm only 5'3" - my husband was in so much pain he almost got up to go and stand in the back. One lady in our row even had to be reseated. Being in this much pain greatly distracts from enjoyment of the show. I know there's nothing that can be done about this, and maybe the main floor is different - but just be forewarned!
